Here's how I added to cart...
1. Follow OP's link and Add to cart
2. Login or Sign up for Dell account (Leave window open but do not use)
3. Open new window and login to Discovercard
4. Link to Dell from Discover Shopcenter
5. Login to Dell account
6. Click on "My Account" tab
7. Click on "My Cart" tab
8. Pay with DiscoverCard

To add network functionality

1. buy a usb nic - I got the Trendnet TU2-ET100 it's 24.99 and should be available at most all radioshacks. bit cheaper on Newegg/Amazon.
2. follow the instructions on loading the ext3-boot firmware onto flash drive (formatted with fat32). Note the flash drive must stay plugged in indefinitely (at least that is my understanding) once you get this setup.
3. setup your windows pc(s) to share the folders you want.
4. boot up your wdtv with the firmware. It should auto detect the nic. It will display it's ip address (or you can look on your router page for connected clients).
5. ssh using putty or another ssh client using the address of the wdtv. login is "root" leave password blank and hit enter
6. type command "vi conf/net.mounts" and hit enter(then hit the i key to get into insert mode - google vi if you need more info on using vi)
7. Under these two lines
"# if your "guest" account is disabled, you must supply username and password
# xmount //192.168.0.34/ShareName ShareName cifs user=username,pass=password"

type your own command.
it should be in this format (change the stuff in ())
xmount //(network ip of your computer sharing the files)/(shared folder name) /tmp/media/usb/USB1/(name you want the folder to display as on the wdtv) cifs user=(login username of the computer sharing the files), pass=(password for the login)
if your account doesn't have a password leave off the ", pass= ()" part.

You can add as many of these as you want.
hit the esc key to exit insert mode
type ":wq" (it will show up on the last line) and hit enter. (this does write/quit if you screwed up and don't want to save type !)
8. type "reboot" and hit enter. the wdtv will reboot and the putty session will terminate.
9. give it a couple minutes and then reconnect.
10. type cd /tmp/media/usb/USB1 hit enter then type "ls" and hit enter. You should see the directories you added in the net.mounts file.
11. type cd and then then name of a directory and hit enter. Then type ls and hit enter. You should be able to see the files/directories on the other computer if everything is working correctly.
12. on your wdtv go under setting and turn off auto-search.
13. when you select a category (videos) you should see the folders that you added.

Wonder if it has divx support. To bad they didnt throw a network card on it for the Mybook networkable (or people like me who network it through a server). Anyone own one of these that can vouche for Divx 4 or higher support? Would like one of these for my bedroom since i use a moded Xbox in my livingroom

Has fine divx support. Firmware was updated recently and helps functionality a lot. Remote sucks but Harmony's support it.

No component output (only HDMI and composite) and no wireless/lan connection. You want that you pay more for a popcorn unit.

I picked one up in January and love it. After the firmware update the only complaint I have left at this point is it still does not power-down USB drives attached to it when shut off. Not a big deal with sticks but I have an external laptop drive and would be more comfortable if it shut down.

divx, xvid, 1080p mkv's, this thing plays everything I throw at it. There are plenty of discussion threads from older deals, and of course an infinitely long thread at avsforums. i'd link, but i'm too lazy, do some digging.

also, don't forget to upgrade the firmware, this probably won't have it already loaded (came out in late dec i think)

A bit off topic, but does anyone know if they make hdmi -> component adapters? My receiver has no hdmi and I need to output to two sources with a component splitter, so i'm stuck watching it on tv only for now, no big screen projector.

Be sure to upgrade to the latest 1.01 version firmware. Fixes numerous subtitle and other issues as reported by users in the first 2 months it was out:

That's a proprietary connector for the PS3, it's not an HDMI connector on the end. Monoprice has an adapter that converts component to HDMI, but not sure if it works the other way around. It's pretty cheap though, $44.

Here is what I don't understand. The external HD has its own power source. It's not like running dependently and use power souce from WD (like usb stick) so the when you shut the WD down it shuts down the ext. HD also. May be there is something I am missing.

The portable external drive (2.5 inch harddrives) does not have powersource.. It uses power from the usb drive..
