Iomega ScreenPlay has the same functionality. Plenty of deals for the same price. To bard8910's point, if you don't already have a spare external drive, it makes sense to buy a single unit with both the drive and the media converter. Here is a 500 gig version on the Zone for $50 more. |

Whats the difference? let me telling you that phillips dvd/usb/divx no match with WD TV media player. Phillip only play standard definition contents while WD play all format including bluray ISO. Now you telling what you missing if you watch movies in regular DVD vs bluray? Popcorn hour is same league of WD but cost $100 more. |

i looked at the iomega screen play - it doesn't support FLAC and there is no digital audio out i also looked at the popcorn hour and that doesn't suppprt FLAC that i could see either. so i think WD is first to market one of these media players that supprts FLAC i asked their tech suppport if they plan to suppprt gapless FLAC in the future. perhaps if a few more folks ask the same question they will seriously condider it.... here's an easy way to ask them the question... http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=xF*GKLnj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MzcsMzcmcF9wcm9kcz0yMDgsMjQ2JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0yLjI0NiZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_srch=1 |

FYI, Iomega screen play DOES NOT play HD contents like (mkv, h264). It only upscaling to 1080i(mean upconverting SD to 1080i, so your quality still in standard definition). |

Can you confirm blu-ray ISO? I know it does DVD ISO, but I've seen specific reviews that say is does NOT do Blu-ray ISO. I skimmed through the AVS forum thread and no body mentioned being able to use Blu-ray ISOs. http://maddhat.com/?p=31 |

I don't own it but from description I'd guess that it play full HD contents your dvd is like mine just upscale the picture not actually play HiDef content. My Phillips actually crap out @ 640x480 VGA. HiDef are resolutions of 1080i, 720p, 1080p. Upscale take 480p and translate it to 1080i/p. bard8910 said:SteveDusa said:bard8910 said:I am not sure what I am missing. This one supports way more formats and codecs. Ok I guess.. My setup seems to work fine for my needs. I have a 300 GB HDD attached to it and serves the purpose. |

Great unit, I've bought 2 of these in the about 2-3 months ago. Both work great. Play pretty much everything. Sometimes it will play 1080P choppy, but that's one out of 5 movies. |

Does anyone has suggestion for a wireless media player? I cannot run wires from my desktop to stereo, too far. Don't want to keep hauling ext drives back and forth. Thanks. |

I have 2 blueray ISOs and they play fine. Though the embedded subtitles can't be called up. By the way, I also tested several external hard drives. Largest I have is 1.5 TB and it works great. One word of advice, don't load the hard drive with other junks or the scan time will be slower. |

Yep, blueray iso play fine for me as well. This is definitely a top notch piece of hardware. The only issue would be incompatibility with DTS audio, which you could easily convert to AC3 using the audio decoder from popcorn hour. |
