Poor mechanics complaining that people dont want to pay $60 bucks to get a code from their car. You can pretty much buy a code reader after a single use. You could try AAMCO but there will probably be a sales pitch.
A very easy to use ODBII code reader? Count me in. As said earlier, this pays for itself on just one scan. I like being able to just scan it in the comfort of my own garage.

I checked eBay because I really wanted one and saw some listed as CAN compliant. Googled "CAN OBD" and it seems some cars from 2004 and possibly all 2008+ require the newer protocol: OBDII CAN compliant?
