The reader gives a short description of the fault code, but at the product's website, http://codekeyunlock.com/ You can get a more thorough description.
For folks that already have an ODB II reader that just gives a 5-digit code, the codekey website can be very useful.

Poor mechanics complaining that people dont want to pay $60 bucks to get a code from their car. You can pretty much buy a code reader after a single use. You could try AAMCO but there will probably be a sales pitch.
A very easy to use ODBII code reader? Count me in. As said earlier, this pays for itself on just one scan. I like being able to just scan it in the comfort of my own garage.
Atlanta zip codes (no Kragen, just Advance Auto Parts) show $49.99.
I checked eBay because I really wanted one and saw some listed as CAN compliant. Googled "CAN OBD" and it seems some cars from 2004 and possibly all 2008+ require the newer protocol: OBDII CAN compliant?

It's $23.50 alright... Same message U am seeing in Northern California. It shows the item as being in stock and available for local pickup, but it will not allow checkout. BTW, OBD II readers go on sale at Harbor Freight for half price ($39.99) sometimes.
Not available locally. My dash light has been on for a couple years now, I guess I wouldn't mind finding out what, so anyone have any suggestions on which other one to buy?

OBD1 is not "universal" in it's interface or codes produced ,, you must buy brand specific/car specific tools ... The one OP posted is OK but lacks the most important item a book with the manufacturer specific diagnostic codes ,, 3 digit codes are used by all companies ,, the 4/5? digit codes are specific to that brand of car ... sometimes you just don't have web access to look things up or you're greasy when you need to look a code up..

Is your car 1996 or newer? if so an OBD2 reader is what you need ... some cars will set a light when you hit a particular mileage when maint is due ,, otherwise as you're running OK it's probably a code for something minor like EGR flow rate (code 400/401/402)... buy a cheapie and leave it in your glovebox...
For $40 I just get nice used Actrons on eBay ...ones that actually spell out the fault on the digital screen in words...no need to run to a computer to figure out the code.
I show it in stock at 2 stores by my house for $23, but it won't let me order online. I wonder if the instore price is the same?

Great find OP. I'll be picking one up soon. One question, though, for those that have it; Can this be used with multiple vehicles? I've had a bit of a fear of VIN-Locking DTC readers since I bought an ECU editor/DTC reader some time ago.
mnsweeps said: How many times do you really have to use this in your car? If you are in CA you can rent it for free at Autozone.
I've used one more in each of 8 problems over the last 10 years (needed one 16 times). Everytime you need it, you need it at least twice. Once to diagnose the problem, and once to clear the light after you have fixed the problem. If your car gets 20 miles to the gallon and the Autozone is 15 miles away then, at 20c per mile plus gas, this thing would pay for itself after 2 incidents.
I had a fault code and went to Autozone get Free read and they did it but Autozone will not erase the code. So it is useful. I had one from Actron which I kept for whole year and never opened the package but now interested, this shows 49.99 for me.
