Ban the EBAYers.

alert mods

(Some of these are better than others, but I figured I throw out all my thoughts I'm having on this right now)

--Start your own PayPal system that doesn't tolerate chargeback scammers and UPS redirect refunds? Maybe partner with AlertPay?

--Why the default sort for search hasn't always been Creation date, I have no clue.

--Stricter posting rules that makes it easier to read the deals quickly, which would be extremely helpful on limited-inventory/time-sensitive deals.

--FlashChat inside of each forum or thread to eliminate the thread-crapping posts? Only the original post, the wiki post, and the FlashChat log would be needed. This way real updates and info is at the top and people can ignore the BS in the other pages without wonder if there is another golden detail hidden deep within?

--Auto-lock threads that aren't maintained by their OP. An OP should care for their deals beyond the post as respect toward the community. If no updates are made by the OP within 5 days the thread should lock, if FlashChat is enabled the chat could keep going but the title post and wiki can lock.

--Have all retail sponsors keep a current AND stackable 5% off coupon posted at all times. This should be a requirement along with a minimum amount of CB of 5%. Neither should apply to orders of clearance merchandise, to be fair to the retailer. It would allow the sponsors to offer FW the same deals they do to any Joe off the street, while maintaining a benefit to the community that is easily within margin for the retailers. This way FW members could almost make any regular advertised sale item into a deal that suits the individual FW'ers needs, though those items may not be as coveted by the entire community.

--Instead of the idea of a FW Credit Card, a more reasonable idea would be a co-branded rewards debit card that can be linked to a users existing credit card or checking account. The reward could be the 5% CB from all participating retailers and 1% from all other transactions. This would be in place of and not on top of the above required CB requirement. Have the CB rewards deposited into an online savings account with the financial partner. The co-branded bank would be happy to have the spending habit data of the more active consumers in this tight economy. The value of this data would easily help off-set the program cost for FW and/or the financial partner. There are plenty of potential financial partners out there for this idea. Also, instant updating of the funding source by secure online/mobile interface should made available at launch. And include custom image on the card in 800x480 format with the FW logo in the upper right corner.

--Work a deal with one of the 3 major credit bureau's score/monitoring services to get a nice discount on annual an annual score-watch service. Example, 10$/yr would allow the FW'er unlimited viewing of their credit score and a digital pull of their full credit report from all 3 of the top bureau's. All of us cheap bastards care about the environment and wouldn't want a paper copy anyhow. Since all 3 give away reports and scores 1-2 times a year each for 10,000 people at a time I'm sure one of them wouldn't mind actually making money of it and letting us see our scores whenever we want - since it doesn't hurt our score if we personally view our score. =)

--A darker look to the site/forums please? All this off-white/white kills my eyes.

--A direct number to US-support for Dell. (Wishful thinking)

--A 25% group discount with a national cellular carrier or special SERO-style phone plan.

--And I'll end my wishlist with the idea of a FW Cash-back Casino. Let members play games with other members where they can wager Cash-back (private poker tourney's on pokerstars each week?), or play a Cash-back hourly/daily/weekly (your pick) lotto? I don't mention the idea of house games because honestly they're all far too tight on payout odds.

Any of these ideas worth a damn?

i wish that replies so comments appeared directly below the comment (Amazon and lifehacker forums are good examples) as opposed to at the end of the thread (like this mess)

i'd also love to see something implemented that helps to eliminate useless post and organize threads, or something that bumps usefull post to the top of the thread. as it is, there are too many "thanks op" replies that crowd up the threads. the quick summary is a great idea but nobody uses it (either they dont know how, or they want to post info themselves to get credit (green) themselves). something similar to tehparadox.com where there is an list directly under op's post that users can sign to thank the op. something like that along would hopefully clean up a lot of threads.

i'd also like to suggest limiting red/neutral/green ratings only to original post, and implementing a different system for replies that "bumps" useful post to the top of the thread and useless post to the bottom.

require XX posts/replies to create any new topic matter of fact.

make an elite/VIP level membership forum to reward long term members or very active members.

(and maybe for elite a for sale/trade section to buy/sell coupons and or junk they've got on deals). you know if you got a few extra sansa players but really wanted a coffee pot that u missed. that would be cool.

alert mods

Ban "thanks op" posts and people who post them.

We have the green and red to show appreciation to the op. Replies should be about the deal. We shouldn't have to wade through 50000 "thanks op posts" to find out the last post says "out of stock".

1 more...

in the drop down box "select a forum" at top of page, please organize the choices of forums in alphabetical order.

Have a honor roll for websites having efficient checkout procedures.

In the meantime, nice reference to Judas Priest!

I guess this is not 'way' outside the box:
We need a standard format for topic titles - what is the item, where, when, how much, and any restrictions (b&m, coupon, etc). These fields should be mandated. Otherwise we end up with titles like "FAR t-shirts".

Do not have functionality in only 1 mode of the site and not another. Users should not have to choose between appearance and functionality.

Staff suggestions to use feature X which is only in modern view are not acceptable to people who don't like modern view. If the features of modern are that great, why not roll them out so all members (customers) can use them in both views?

Stop worrying about adding new features and fix the ones you already have (including search).

alert mods

Make "Classic" the default or better yet nuke "Modern" alltogether.

Nuke that annoying GD yellow-haired bastard that keeps popping up at the bottom of the screen.

Other those I enjoy the site.

The overall rating for the thread should exist, based on the deal, not what folks are bashing each other in replies... It's hard to se if the actual deal is hot/not

alert mods

A way to mark / flag some threads as 'Mail In Rebate' reminders for myself... maybe I should have patented this idea

alert mods

I think in posting, the title of the post should be form entry. I know this can get cumbersome, but maybe after someone has posted enough new topics, they can get the traditional free text area.

Simple form that has text boxes for certain fields like Price, Shipping, Store, etc.

You know how you automatically linkify merchant names in a post - well, also make it so when your cursor is placed over it the current CashBack % or amount is displayed in a little tooltip type window as well as the merchant's rating if there is one.

alert mods

Not really a consumer pain point, but ...

Please create a specific topic category for issues such as store bankruptcies/closings, rebate house bankruptcies/closings, etc. These types of posts usually get locked because they are not a "Hot Deal", yet they are of interest to most of the readers of the Hot Deals forum. Maybe a "Consumer Alert", or something along those lines. And make it stick to the top of the list (with an expiration date) with a unique icon or color so that it is easily identified. This should help avoid multiple posts of the same topic.

I don't post much but am a loyal reader. Lately i am noticing a lot of posts in HD section giving credit to SD. I might be reading to much into it, but it seems that SD is now a leader in finding and posting HDs. While this may not affect veterans here, but newbies are a different story.

I suggest:
1. Encourage and develop a culture of helping others instead of bashing newbies. Read flyertalk to find out how they welcome new members. Who cares if it is repost... if you don't like it move on.
2. Limit the interference of any kind. I think every time you move or lock a thread, you piss of someone or the other.

As a new user, I'd like to have the 'online deals only' in one forum. The B&M & YMMV could be put someplace else. YMMV postings should add state / location so we can search only for accessible deals. Dead Deals should have the whole thread moved to a new forum. FYI - many of the "hot" deals I have been interested in were dead or unaccessible within minutes. I know it's the nature of the thing, but it is frustrating to get excited just to have it Dead.

When a merchant fails to award FatCash, there is this huge online form that must be filled out to file a claim. Usually, it takes longer to fill out this form than it took to place the order itself. When I lose 35 cents CashBack I don't even bother reporting it because it is so much hassle. Couldn't the process be simplified? Microsoft Live CashBack requires only basic information such as the merchant name, order date & order number. Why can't FatCash be this simple?

Also, when I click NOT INTERESTED on a deal for something I don't want, why wont the thread actually GO AWAY? I want it to never be seen again, yet they keep reappearing.

Thanks Whatatay. I gave you green for this one.
