Alliant Credit Union members get 25% off their monthly Sprint bill. (New and existing customers)
http://www.alliantpromos.org/sprint/

How do you join Alliant?
http://www.alliantcreditunion.org/membership/eligibility/

You need to belong to a member organization like any local PTA. You can sign up for the National PTA for $25/year. (No need to continue membership after you've joined Alliant).
http://www.pta.org/national_membership_application.asp

Then, you need to open an account, $5 minimum deposit. You can sign up online.
http://www.alliantcreditunion.org/membership/eligibility/
Put the $5 in a savings account and pick paperless statements to avoid hassles with dormant account fees.

Total Cost: $30 and some online paperwork
Total Benefit: 25% off your (already lower than everyone else) Sprint bill every month

EDITED
One caveat from the finance section's Alliant CU thread.

There may be a $10 "dormant account" fee on Alliant CU if you don't make some kind of transaction once a year. BUT, it looks like that rule doesn't apply to a savings account if you "opt out of paper statements." So, make sure you choose savings accout, paperless billing, and you should be good. (Also, they give you 30 days notice before charging you, so no worries).
http://www.alliantcreditunion.org/pdf/global/AccountAgreementAndDisclosures_P105R0708.pdf

By the way, their checking account pays 3%, so it might be worth it to some to actually make use of their ACU account.

gldpurd said: Just a heads up:
A lot of you may have opened accounts a year ago when they had the high CD rates.
Their fee schedule lists a $10 dormant account fee after one year. If you have not used your share account recently, you might want to make a token transaction to be on the safe side.

I don't know for a fact whether they actually charge this fee or not. Several other credit unions have such a fee on their schedules, but don't enforce it. I'm just saying it's on their fee schedule. If anyone gets charged, please let us know!

P.S. You don't have to join the PTA if you happen to live in the Chicago Suburbs (Arlington Heights, Bensenville, Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Elmhurst, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights, Itasca, Mount Prospect, Northlake, Niles, Norridge, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights, River Grove, Rolling Meadows, Rosemont, Schiller Park, Wood Dale and Chicago O'Hare Airport property)

Good luck!

25% off select Sprint plans

Will this work with SERO?

Probably ymmv, I was able to put my corporate discount on sero but many coworkers were not, depends on the rep you get I guess.

You do know that Sprint has the lowest cost plans of the big 3 right? So this will make a good deal even better.

oops double post.

sweet i will see if i can upgrade my mogul to touch pro and get 25% off the $55 fee!

Yes, Sprint is the lowest-cost reliable provider.

But, that's more Sprint bashing from the Verizon fanboys who enjoy paying the highest amount in additional made up fees and taxes on top of their base rates...

This will not work with any SERO plans

BTW: The PTA is for higher property taxes (to increase teacher salaries etc). So your $5 donation to save 25% made go right toward your property tax bill...

Thanks OP. Will give this a go.

BE CAREFUL! Sprint has been drastically reducing the percentages they give under their affiliate company and some state & govt employee programs. I am a member of the national IEEE CU here in AZ and Sprint just dropped our discount this month from 35% to 6%! I also heard from other family members over the holidays who get a Sprint discount through their employers that Sprint had notified them that Sprint was dropping their discount to single digits as well.

Can't speak to the PTA thing, but my Corporate discount certainly does work with all 3 SERO plans that I have.

Alliant is a great credit union, check out this thread in the Finance forum discussing it.

You do know that Sprint has the lowest cost plans of the big 3 right? So this will make a good deal even better.

Ridiculously high? Compared to who? Does that include those who took advantage of SERO too?

In as much as I like to save as much as the next person, at some point one should be willing to pay a fair price for goods and services. This board has members who own their own businesses. I wonder how many of them would want others here to similarly exploit their businesses. Or would those who work for companies be so willing to provide to this board the means to exploit the goods and services of their companies such that their companies ongoing viability become jeopardized?

18 months ago, Sprint's stock was trading about $22. It now hovers around $2. In part because of customer defections, but also in part due to reduced revenues, and of course, when you look at the Touch Pro exchange that has been ongoing in another thread, it's easy to see how the company is losing income.

It's one thing to qualify for an offered discount, but another to suggest joining an organization for that discount only to cancel the membership after obtaining the discount.

If you really think you are overpaying for Sprint service, by all means accelerate the demise of the company. With Sprint out of business, then complaints can be voiced about the ridiculously high prices that AT&T, Verizon and TMobile charge.

caeteris said: It's one thing to qualify for an offered discount, but another to suggest joining an organization for that discount only to cancel the membership after obtaining the discount.
That was never suggested. Sprint could care less about the PTA, etc.. The discount is for CU members and canceling membership in the CU would also cancel the discount. Nobody suggested joining the CU and then cancelling. If the CU doesn't want members with $5 in the accounts, they should not offer that. And I am pretty sure the PTA (or other qualifying organization) does not feel a victim for collecting money with no strings attached.

Corporate Discounts: According to Sprint ONLY decrease when the company who has contracted with Sprint modifies their agreement or decreases the amount of subscriptions they have with corporate liable contracts, therefore this affects individual liable contracts.

SERO does not qualify for any discounts because it is already heavily discounted

I have SERO and have tried to have it applied with no avail, although if you do get a CLUELESS CS, it might happen, slim chance

Regardless of ALL the complaints i have read about and heard in person, i like sprint and wouldnt go anywhere else and ive tried ATT, which claims to have good service, but SUCKS, i cant even get service half the time or if i do it goes to static, and VERIZON, which is similiar to Sprint, is always roaming on Sprint, so why pay more for less, then T-Mobile, which is just ATT with less service capacity, and dont think i defending Sprint, because i had their crappy Nextel service too, its basically ATT with a radio.

The above statements are all my personal opinion and in no way represents anyone elses opinion, so take it as a freedom of speech

Good point about Sprint already being the cheapest out there. Modified the original post accordingly.
Also, Alliant Credit Union offers very good rates on checking accounts, 3%, and they're always trying to drum up more business.

Found a caveat for dormant accounts. Modified original post.

I believe if you're unfortunate enough to be a member of Kaiser, ie, if you have kaiser insurance, you qualify as well, no need to join the PTA. it says if you're a member of...Kaiser is listed. I ran away from Kaiser a year ago, probably the best decision I've made for my health.

And, one more thing, do they even verify your membership of the the organization you say you belong to? looks like click and go

I don't think I will leave Sprint despite many negative comments about them. Their plans are cheap and reliable. **Personal experience having a work Blackberry with ATT and a Palm Centro with Sprint.

I have 3 SERO accounts with them with corporate discounts. The total bill comes to about $75 a month with those ridiculous government fees. Although I would love to have an iPhone, I don't think I will ever switch to ATT when one iPhone plan costs the same amount as 3 SERO.

I am in the same boat as you. for $30 with taxes and tep (with corp discount on SERO). the same plan would be 2.5-3x more each on month ATT. I'll stick with sprint.

I don't understand, how do existing customers get 25% off their service plan. Can someone provide a step by step?

Also, what information does sprint need to confirm you're a Alliant CU member?

Thanks.

Sprint needs a root node account number...whatever that is.

i been with sprint 6 years and never seen a corp. discount of 30 or 35%

I'm in need of the 30.00 sero would someone here add one and TOL one to me please

Great deal!

I just called Sprint and am receiving 25% off our bill...we have a very old plan that I am amazed they continue to allow. Free unlimited text, long distance, internet, and tons of minutes. We have had this plan since 2001 and they don't offer anything like it. It's crazy that we now get 25% off that plan. Thanks for posting this deal!

The you are either the posterchid of a CLUELESS sprint employee exemplifing what is wrong with Sprint today or perhaps Sprint just thinks you in particular are not a important enough employee to share their best deals? In either case you are in the TOTALLY in the dark. There is a comprehensive list of Sprint corporate & govt discounts over at SD compiled from hundreds of SD members who are getting Sprint customer discounts stacked in the 30-45% rangehere. I guess those are all wrong too because you don't know about them? BTW you CAN stack corporate AND Govt discounts AND SERO! Do us all a favor and save your Spint BS superior mentality for those ignorant customers who don't know better.

waiting for Palm Pre to make its debut on Sprint..

Please post if ya get it to work with SERO!

Troll, there are no discounts of 30-45% in that list you linked to, (nor, notably, in a quoted version of the list early in the thread from 2005), so you've yet to provide any evidence of your claim. If some Sprint employee was able to stack multiple corporate discounts using Sprint's old P2K billing system, that error would have been fixed when they switched over to Nextel's Ensemble billing system.

high?? i have five lines, unlimited talk, texting, web, data, picmail, etc etc for 120 + tax.

Beat that.

Hell, match that.

customer service is sketchy. but their pricing rules. I've been a customer for 11 years.

(fwiw: the plan I'm on was to get me to stay after I told them I was switching to verizon!)

ashamanic said: i have five lines, unlimited talk, texting, web, data, picmail, etc etc for 120 + tax.
How can "I" get in on that?

ocean935 said: ashamanic said: i have five lines, unlimited talk, texting, web, data, picmail, etc etc for 120 + tax.
How can "I" get in on that?

back in january 2008 there was this post, I believe on FW?, that explained that since Sprint changed their terms (removing a 4 cent tax or something ridiculous) - We had 30 days to get out of it.

At that time, there was also a major billing error on my account. They had charged me twice and didn't include one of my five lines as a 10 dollar add-on -but billed it separately. I was obviously pissed.

After six hours on the phone, I thought I finally got someone competent on the phone. She said she was going to fix everything and it would all be fine. But after she was reviewing everything she did, she was like "Okay, what area code do you want your new line to be in..."

That's right. After explaining everything to this woman TWICE (and being transfered like seven times, so she had NOTES in front of her of what I was asking her to fix) she thought i wanted to ADD A LINE! wtf.

I flipped out. I wasted my entire day and got nowhere. So I said I want to just cancel everything -all five lines. They switched me to retention dept, and I said that I wanted out. I told them they had to let me out because they changed the terms. And a few people were like, well it's actually a cheaper bill because they deducted some tax thing - but I was pissed off. So I told them that didn't matter. the contract explicitly says I have 30 days to get out of the contract if you change anything, and i want out.

They switched me to an account manager.

And this woman was really apologetic. she said she was really sorry, she noticed i've been a customer for 10 years, and that I have FREQUENT complaints about dropped calls. So she offered me this deal, and even though I was ready to walk, it was just dumb not to take it. so i did. dropped calls are STILL annoying, but they happen less and less -and it doesn't matter as much because i have unlimited minutes

I think the bottom line is you have to be prepared to leave. I was SO READY to get the HELL out of the sprint world. I was ridiculously pissed that day. So that, in combination with the fact that Sprint was about to launch an aggressive campaign to get customers back (this is right before they introduced the Everything plan) - got me this deal.

It won't work for everyone. And this was NOT WHAT I WANTED - I wanted to LEAVE SPRINT! But like I said, it was just stupid not to take it.

A told a friend about this - he's a marketing guy - he said that sprint was consistently ranked worst in customer service and that they are doing everything they can to get away from that rep, so that's probably why they offered me that plan.

Success! I first called the Sprint number located at the bottom of the Alliant page that mentions the discount. They transferred me over to regular customer service who took care of it. At first the rep didn't understand that it was for being a member of a credit union, not an employee..he wanted my work email, so after I thought I straightened him out, I gave him my personal email addy and a few hours later I had an email from Sprint saying I have been approved for the discount. However, the internal notes at the bottom of the email from sprint, say I'm an "Alliant Credit Union Employee", not sure if I should have them correct that or not.

I do not have a SERO plan and was already a member of Alliant as my wife worked in one of the qualifying cities.

Many thanks OP!

Terms say not applicable to "Simply Everything plans". Has anyone tried this discount with the "Everything Data Family Plan"? I'm guessing if this works, the 25% would replace my 15% gov employee discount.

Vmaxer said: Terms say not applicable to "Simply Everything plans". Has anyone tried this discount with the "Everything Data Family Plan"? I'm guessing if this works, the 25% would replace my 15% gov employee discount.

I haven't done this yet myself as I already have a Everything Family Data plan but I did go to www.sprint.com/alliant and selected a phone with a new plan and the Everything Family Data plan was discounted.

Hope this work, I'm gonna try later today. =) Thanks!

I think I need to weigh in a bit, I've had a retention plan for close to 7 years and have managed to expand it to ridiculous lengths. However, Sprint recently changed the billing system so that your discounts are not applied to the base charge of the plan, they only go towards add-ons like txt and internet. If anyone can report differently, please do, but I had my bill down to $55 at one point for 4 lines and now I pay 100. Still a huge discount because I have txt, internet, and 4 lines in total.

As Quagmire would say, "Gigadee, gigadee!" Just got signed up with Alliant - they even auto-deposited my initial $5 for free! We are already a member of our local PTO, so zero out of pocket for this deal. Called Sprint and got the discount applied - supposedly will show up on my account in one to two billing cycles. This discount will probably undo my current 10% credit union discount, but should still net me an extra 15% off...almost $20 a month on my family plan! Repped!

So, just to clarify: this 25% discount replaces any current corp discounts on the account, right?
I currently have a 23% discount, so don't want to go through the trouble of signing up if it will only mean an additional 2%.
