before this I felt the best model was the 1000H but now they've just upped the battery capacity with the new processor. but, the asus website says this one doesn't get N wireless.

how long does a pre-order typically take?

Don't forget the "chiclet" style keyboard.

being in upstate NY, I would get charged tax+shipping if I order this from JR.
I hope some other NY friendly online retailers start selling this model so I don't have to pay tax or shipping....

I have a feeling that this is going to be one of the better netbooks.
may not be the best or have all the gazillion features, but for a netbook, it will have the perfect price to features balance.

i'm just stating that the Asus website doesn't have N listed, so we'd have to find a confirmation. but as we all know they tend to put out several versions of the same name computer.

the point is better illustrated by using this link

EDIT: after looking more and more it seems as if Asus contradicts itself numerous times. I'm getting one regardless

FWIW, the Asus website announcing the pre-order promotion states explicitly "802.11n Wi-Fi provides connectivity up to 6 times faster than 802.11g"

any ideas when this will actually be available?

I don't see the Pearl White color anywhere for pre-order. Any idea?

Amazon has it for $374.

In 4-1.
A valentines gift for my wife and myself.
Have been looking and wanting one (Netbook) back when Asus introduce eee/7"
My router is 802.11n Wi-Fi capable, so this will be our first computer to us N draft.
Does anyone know when this will become available to reseller markets for shipping to customers??

How can you tell there is a 7% Cash Back? It said "0% to 7%" Cash Back when I clicked the link.

yeah, us NYers are screwed on the sales tax issue, all out of state retailers are "required" to collect sales tax for NY now.

see how Amaz0n just lost the lawsuit against Albany: linky

Thanks OP. Just cancelled my order at Amazon and picked up one from J&R. Saved me $25!

what about WWan

This sounds like a great netbook and with the CashBack from MS eventually a good deal. When I was ordering
I balked because of the 0-7% CashBack statement. Is it 7% on this for sure?

Had the same question. But figured I could easily cancel the purchase because we are looking at 7 to 10 days before shipping at the earliest.

So I did order one this morning, and my Live Cash Back account immediately posted a $25.40 credit "available within 60 days".
So for me, it was 7%.

BTW: Shipping was a very reasonable $8.43 to CA.
Via phone, J&R would have given the free shipping, but I would have lost the Live Cash Back.
No big deal!
Also for CA residents... no 8% sales tax, and no $10 display recycle fee.

Any chance the N280 has 64 bit capability? I haven't seen it specifically mentioned whether this chip will or not.

Yep, same here. Sorry FW, but we're all sell-outs. Hey, it's the FW way!

Bill, don't worry.. we are not selling out FW by using Live to get the 7% Cash Back.
The merchants's web is a much tangled one.

Did they drop the price because I got 364.99 - 25.55 live cash = ~340

They didn't drop the price. But they now offer free ground shipping!

What about those of us that already ordered? Can we get them to credit the original order, or we need to cancel and reorder?

tempting, but i'll hold out until they get these things to a decent speed. I found that I freak out and start pounding on my company's eee because it's so slow.

Nice deal! I'm keeping my Amazon.com order active in case my J&R order is delayed/canceled.

What are you trying to do with it? It's a netbook. Mine surfs the internet and plays movies and music just as fast as my gaming desktop. I do wish they could have put a better trackpad in them. Unless I'm deliberate with it, the mouse seems to jump around a bit.

does anyone know how long till these will be launched. Almost all the news on the new atom n280 is that it would not be out till mid year 09. link

Windows and no SSD kills the deal.

Yeah, I can delete windows and install Easy Peasy, but why give M$ a dime if you don't have to?

Not having a SSD is a good thing.

I have a question, I just signed up for a live CashBack account, how do I use it to get a 7% discount?? I am confused. thanks

click here, click on the J&R logo and follow the directions. It'll bring you to J&R's site. Make your purchase as normal and eventually the transaction will show up in your account.

My CashBack isn't showing up - but then again, this is a pre-order and my card hasn't been charged yet. I'm not sure how anyone's account is showing the transaction, actually.

depends on situation

Thanks OP. Ordered one an hour ago, and Live CashBack was added as pending to my account in the last 10 minutes. So does anyone recommend a decent dvd/cd player? Can't wait for it to show up, be a decent birthday gift to myself.
