Thinking about doing this for the boyfriend and I. We're currently paying $50/mo for the two of us at LA Fitness. However, I'm worried about the renewal rate too. My old boyfriend got a lifetime to Bally's in the 80's and currently pays $9 (no, I did not forget a zero), for the entire family, all club access.

I'm on a free pass right now, and this looks like a pretty good deal. The Terms and Conditions dont mention anything about a price after the 2yr period, I assume it would be the regular $35/mo. Can someone verify that?

Strange that a club called 24 hour fitness mentions this in their T&C though..

People that talk about getting gym memberships for 450-600 for 3 years and a 50 renewal after, your prices don't apply here since a lot of people don't have that kind of money to fork up in the front in the first place. On top of that, do you guys really work out that much?? I mean, my friend got on in the same deal and all but she got 4 years for 800 and 15 renewal every year after. Though do you guys ever wonder what happens if they go bankrupt, you get injured or any thing like that? You practically just lost out on your money. Btw, rep for OP but costco had it for 280 a few weeks back.

The membership than begins to be terminated. My brothers just ended about 2 months ago and they didn't charge any other fees. It just stops working.

damn, Sport & Health costs you more than that in 4 months

found this a couple of weeks ago, was going to jump on it but living less than 2 miles from a Super Sport (coupled with Houston traffic) kills the deal.

Still I don't know many places you can work out for less than $15.00/mo.

yes that's a good option...But I won't get that motivation, if I am working out alone at home...So I prefer GYM..

I'm going to mark this for now but I'm still determining if I should just buy my own bowflex or something.

Anyone know how much this costs if you don't have a costco membership. Once you add the item to cart, it says there is a surge charge for non-members.

Why arent those deals relevent? These forums are to discuss products and experiences of the deal being presented. The prepaid deals are still available. You dont see prepaid deals posted anymore because they got banned due to abuse.$450 for 3 years is about the same as $299 for 2 years on an annual basis at $150 per. I also got the $450/3 years with $50 renewals about 5 years ago but had a friend get the same deal recently. Personally, I look at break even points. People average anywhere from $15 to $30 a month in gym fees, sometimes more. I figured the deal I got would equal about a little over 2 years of paying monthly fees of $20 or so dollars.

FYI- 24 hour fitness will allow you to freeze your account due to medical disability

Of course it still applies. Sure all those those nightmare scenarios you mention could possibly happen, but are they likely? No. The one thing that is guaranteed though is if you get this Costco deal, after your two years are up you are left with nothing. It's like buying a house versus renting. There's more pain up front in buying a 3 year deal, but in the long run you'll benefit both financially and health wise.

could also buy 2 two year certificates if you're really that worried about what's going to happen after two years...or 2 three year. Its says they never expire.

It's a good deal and I even bought one of these certificates. However be sure to take advantage of the 1 week free deal they have. I did the one week free and decided against joining with my certificate.

The reason? Their equipment was too old and outdated. The facility itself was not maintained well, broken water fountains and not very clean in the locker room. Of course, it depends upon which location you are near and will vary.

I ended up returning my certificate to costco for full refund and joining a different gym.

During the summer I prefer to run outside so I froze mine for 4 months before I started back up. There is no change for freezing it since it is fully prepaid. This was at the downtown Bellevue, WA location.
Did that extend your membership for 4 months past 2yrs from date of activation?

Mine was only a one year. I started February 2008 and put on hold in July 2008. Restarted in October 2008 and now it goes through June 2009.

I am going to buy one of these to do it again.

True. The locker rooms stinks.
The facility is not bad. But very crowded.

Does anyone know how much it costs to add a teenager to the membership once you join?
(Trying to decide if it's better to buy 2 memberships for my daughter and me or buy one for me and add her on)

For the pre paid costco certificate you don't have the option of adding any body to the membership.

I recently read an article that suggested they were purposely closing and letting the regular clubs go down hill since they want to move to the super clubs with higher fees.

is just the HI location or all across the US?

No locations near me in metro ATL (Roswell) . Wife has one of those Bally Fitness $9 mo dues on an old lifetime memberships . Unfortunately, they won't let her add me on for that and there is no way I would pay $259 or even $150 for a year in advance given what a dump the local facility is and their pending Chapter 11 BK .
