Great deal! Be sure to call your local 24 and see if they can offer something better though. I prepaid a 3 year membership with personal training sessions ($700 or so, can't remember exactly) and have a $20./year renewal after that The annual renewal fee varies from time to time (some friends of mine are at $50, some at $75), so you may want to call back each month to see the new deals.

how long ago and in what area?

I bought mine in Orange County, CA. The lowest I have ever seen it (posted here on Fatwallet) was $550 and $20 renewals. Some areas may be easier to get a low price. Around SoCal I was seeing people getting it for $650+

Yea I got on the fatwallet deal couple years ago for the $550/3 yrs and $20/yr after 3 yrs (all clubs except Ultra Sport). This deal wasn't advertised, fatwallet exposed me to the deal and I asked a sales agent about it and was able to sign up with it. I signed up with another person so I think that helped as well, but nowadays I have no reason to cancel it.

Some FYI, you can transfer the account. I have seen people sell off their $20/yr accounts.

I recently read an article that suggested they were purposely closing and letting the regular clubs go down hill since they want to move to the super clubs with higher fees.

is just the HI location or all across the US?

This is true in Chula Vista, CA (San Diego). Older gyms are neglected and make people not want to go to that location. People are coerced to go to new locations (Sport, SuperSport, etc) and upgrade their memberships if their current membership doesn't allow them into the newer club.

My membership ran out so I went for one of these. The salesman complained for a second about lost commission but the whole signup took about 10 minutes. In my area (Austin, TX) the salesman said that there are no Super or Ultra clubs so this membership would work in all clubs in the city. He also said that 24 hour has a policy that they will not have Super or Ultra club more than 5 miles away from a regular club. I thought this might help if others are on the bubble.

In Austin TX we have three new clubs out of a total of 7 and they all have brand new weights. I usually go to one of the older Lance Armstrong clubs and the equipment is not neglected at all. I've also been to older clubs in downtown Portland and downtown Seattle while traveling and neither had old equipment. Perhaps the neglected clubs are only in CA? If in doubt go to the website and get one of the 7 day passes to view the club before committing.

Anybody able to use this on Ultra/Super Clubs?
The Costco deal specifically states that it excludes the ultra/super clubs. unfortunately, NYC only has the Ultra/Super Clubs.

So you go to Costco to buy your gym membership then runs back to Costco to do your "buying in bulk" shopping.

Wouldn't that make you fat?

You buy the membership online. When you go to Costco, buy only bulk items like toiletries and non-perishable foods. To keep the weight down, do it all with your bike.

Can I have somebody who's a Costco member buy me a membership and possibly gift it to me or do I have to be member myself to get this 2 year deal? Also, does the person who buys the membership have to remain a Costco member for the $299/2yr gym membership to remain active?

I think you can get a Costco member to buy it for you. Unless you don't have a Costco in your area, I would join. The savings in gas pays for the membership alone.

You don't have to be a member to buy it online. The website warns of a surcharge for non-members, but the fine print also says they don't charge it for gift certificates. I wasn't charged one when I bought it.

So, any tips on how an existing 24 Hr fitness member can take advantage of this? I'm currently on a month-to-month.

And what happens at the end of 2 years? Does the rate automatically go up, stay the same, or does you membership end?

You have to cancel your existing membership to use this. Since they usually require pre-payment you might have to wait a month after you cancel. Once it ends your membership is cancelled so you will need to sign up for a new account or find a new pre-paid deal.

Yes, you can easily buy memberships as gifts. After you buy, costco issues a little gold certificate with no name or identifying info. I bought one for me and one for my gf with no problems. I could have easily found the certificate on the street and used it.

Actually, I buy tons of fruits, veggies, chicken that are fresher than I can get at the local grocer. Also Monster energy drinks are about $1 each versus $2.79 at the convenience store.

So my credit card sees a charge on the 17th of every month. Does that mean I need to wait an entire month after the 17th or just until the 17th if I cancel now?

(I ask because I don't expect the 24 hr fitness staff to be helpful at all.)
