I signed up for that free 1 month membership deal and since my local gym opens 24 hours, I get to live there for free. Rent around here is $300 a month for a shared room environment.

The Costco deal specifically states that it excludes the ultra/super clubs. unfortunately, NYC only has the Ultra/Super Clubs.

I would like to know this also...the closest club by me is a Super Club

I spoke to a guy at my local 24 and he said that he can ammend my contract so that I can use the costco 299 deal.

edit:

By the way I did a simple calculation in a spreadsheet for future monthly dues.

Let us assume that after 2yr is over they put u on typical $35month plan.

It will take approximately 2 more years to catch up to someone who has the other current deal which is 24/month to month.

costco 299 + $35 * 24months + 35initial fee = 1174
Or
Take the $24 * 48months + 24initial fee = 1176

They are building 2 additional (3 total) 24 Hour Fitness gyms in NYC. Unfortunately they're all Super Clubs. Has anybody managed to combine the Costco deal and pay the difference for the Super Club membership?

There was a craigslist posting of a 24 Hour Fitness employee that was able to sign people up for an annual memberships at a discounted price. I'm leaning towards the notion that its a scam, but would be interested in it if a member on this board went that route sucessfully.

Has anyone been able to negotiate the $600 for 3 years with $100 renewal after that? Maybe to $500 down or only $50/mo. This deal looks especially hot since my school subsidizes $100/year for gym membership since we don't have a gym on campus.

When I redeemed the cert for a membership the manager said there was a plan to change the offer from 2 years to 1 for the same price because the offer was "too good" (the computer listed both membership options, which is why the topic came up). TBD on whether they'd still follow through with this in the current economy, but an FYI for anyone still considering this.

Can someone comment on the cancellation policy of this certificate. Am I locked in a 24 month contract or can I get the prorated amount back once I chose to cancel my membership. I might have to relocated within the next year.

Thanks

Ask Costco for the Pro Rated amount back.

I believe you are locked in.. I doubt Costco will return prorated amount once you have activated the membership. Anyone tried that yet?

I also want to clarify this once before jumping in. I find it hard to beleive that so many people on this forum have committed to a 2 year gym membership without an opt-out clause.

I negotiated a $650 3 year plan with $50 renewals in the bay area, I think some other groups got it even lower.

This really doesn't shine any light on the situation. The membership described in your posting is for the actual Costco membership. As for the latter portion of the policy, this hardly falls under merchandise. Short of anyone trying this out and posting actual results, this won't be resolved with a simple reading of the return policy. Since this is a gift certificate, I think it would be a tough task. How's this any different then say, buying a prepaid movie ticket, then coming back to Costco saying you want your $7.50 back because the movie was terrible? Still worth a try if you're that dissatisfied, I just wouldn't get my hopes up.

I agree. 24HF takes the certificate from you when you activate the membership. So there is nothing that you can return back to Costco once you activate.. Costco definitely will not give you back the money without the original certificate!

I was paying about $37 a month for membership at 24 Hour. I took this in and they put my account on indefinite hold and made a new one for me with this deal. So for the next two years I'm only paying $12.50 a month essentially.

After the two years is up I can reactivate my old account. This works out nicely as I can take advantage of the savings and not have to sign up as a new member (with the enrollment/initiation fees) down the line.

When I wanted to put my account on hold a couple of months ago, I believe they wanted $8 a month with 2 months minimum and 6 months maximum. I told them no thanks and cancelled my membership. I was paying $37/month.

With the costco account, you can put it on hold indefinitely at no charge. I did it for four months and picked up like it was no big deal.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm in.

Has anyone tried to buy these certificates on eBay and use them?

They are currently $275 for 2 years, and it's BIN so you should be able to get 8% bing.com CB.
