Cool. Tools and motocross... 2 out of my 3 favorite things.

I am afraid to ask about your third .. something that involves a palm.

I'm surprised by the negatives, this is likely the best (in the top tier for sure) series of cordless tools out their, I'm guessing their are some hot deals in here. With the free BHP454Z their has to be a real good deal in here somewhere. Just from a quick look on Amazon you can get BTD141 for 79 on Amazon. So you can get an awesome impact driver and Hammer drill for 79 bucks if you have the batteries. Otherwise I have seen good deals on the batteries for these at Home Depot.

They say you need the kit, so that bumps the price up considerably. The cheapest BTD141 on Amazon is $260 (kit). Still a good deal if you are in the market for some tools.

I was looking for a good combo with this and the best I could find was the Makita LXT407 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion 4-Tool Cordless Combo Kit for $362.20 - looks good because it includes the charger, and 2x 3.0mAh batteries. That and the BSS611Z 18-volt LXT 6-1/2-inch Circular Saw would make a pretty nice took kit (though after reading reviews I'd rather have the BSS610 model).

Does anyone know if the BCS550 metal saw would be a better all around saw than the cheaper BSS610 wood saw - it comes free with the LXT407 (with the offer, not in the kit) and seems to be a decent upgrade, but I am not sure how it would be with normal wood cutting tasks.

Great deal denco, especially if you buy the 18V 7 Pc. combo Kit - LXT702. I would get the portable bandsaw. Not that I would have a lot of use for it, but there have been about a dozen times in the last 12 years it would have made my life simpler. Although I wish they had a lifetime warrenty on batteries like Ridgid. Ridgid is what I have now because I won a 4 piece 24v set from HD in fall of 07.

I just checked out the rigid tools at HD and it looks like they are now 3 years - though that is still good for tools, let alone batteries. Looks like Makita is 3 years for tools and 1 year on the batteries, which are almost as expensive as the tools and more likely (IMO) to have a problem in 3 years.

EDIT, did some more searching and it lookes like Rigid does have a lifetime battery replacement, as long as you register it which seems like a great deal (scroll down or seach this page for battery)

Makita makes some great tools. I have a drill/driver and an impact driver. Both have performed very well. Great deal.

great deal. I only wish I could find a deal like this which included heat guns

Just bought an LXT702 AND a jigsaw last month. This deal could have saved me close to $200. Green for you anyway, OP.

Green for you OP! I am in the market for some new cordless drills and have been eyeing the Makatas.

i have the LXT211 combo and love it!!!

I got my BTD141 last night from Amazon, $243 shipped. This thing is totally sweet. Sent in the MIR for a BHP454Z.

IMO, this deal is hot as hell and if you need some quality cordless tools you should be all over it.

Man, I really JUST want the recipro saw and the circular saw, but there aren't many kits that don't include the light (filler imo, as I have tons of these) and the drill (again, I already have a couple).

Problem is, you can only buy the tools individually, "bare", i.e. without batt or charger.

Guess I could sell the light and drill on eBay though.

Green for you OP.

I wonder if the cost difference is worth this over say Ryobi's litium ion based 18v kits? Anyone tried both?

thank you sir. Makita it is!

So who sells the cheapest LXT tools? Is Amazon the hot ticket?

yes, Amazon or eBay, though not sure what Makita's warranty policy is on non authorized dealers.

I'd be concerned about them honoring the rebate deal on an eBay purchase...

I have the drill, reciprocating saw and impact driver... they are SO $$$... way better than my old ryobi... the impact driver, for installing garage doors, any nut and bolt assembly, is BADASS!!!'
they also sell JUST bare tools, no battery.... so once you have the set with two batteries, you can add to it cheap! many manufacturers make you buy a battery with each tool!

Yeah, my only concern is this might be too much kit for what I do. I'm not one to install garage doors.

Mainly your typical home owner, puttering around. Now I have needed a circular saw on several occasions, and I would use the recipro saw a lot, but the other tools seem geared more for contractors or serious diy'ers (see installing garage doors above)

Still, would rather overbuy than underbuy (like my current Black and Decker 18v kit). This IS America, right? MOAR is better!

I'm about to blow your minds - Costco B&M is selling the LXT407 for $349 SKU 239950 - Call first, they didn't have them at all (not even a display spot for it) at one location near me. (Denver area)

- 18V Blower - BUB182Z

Nice! From Amazon:

"Makita really knows how to put a kit together, and this 18-volt cordless combo set is a fine example of how one purchase can flesh out an entire workshop. The LXT407 set includes a 1/2-inch hammer drill/driver (BHP452), an impact driver (BTD140), a reciprocating saw (BJR182), and a rechargeable flashlight (BML185) -- plus two LXT Lithium-Ion 3.0Ah batteries (BL1830), a 30-minute rapid charger (DC18RA), and a rugged contractor's bag to tote and store the whole collection."

I would personally be careful with eBay. Not from a warranty standpoint, from a rebate standpoint.

Dude, you are KILLING ME!!

For $100 more than I paid for my BTD141 I could have got all that other stuff. And my wife is going to Costco tomorrow, which means SHE would pay for it and not me. Maybe I could have even flebayed some of the crap and come out ahead.

AARRGH

Amazon price on this kit just jumped $100 today for some reason. It was $362 shipped yesterday. Now it's $462.

Wanna be really ticked off? It used to be $325 on Amazon back in January.

Doh!

I got the LXT407 kit, then picked up the grinder and hammer drill as "tool only" purchases. I found Amazon was cheaper on some things, eBay with CB was better on some. BTW HD dropped their prices recently on these kits to $399, there might be some 10% coupons floating around to get it closer to Costco's price for people without a membership.

good deal. but i want a Makita 9227C Polisher

Weird - I have the kit from Amazon, and the kit from Costco. They are VERY similar, but slightly different.

The Costco one includes BT141 impact driver, the Amazon one the BT140 impact driver. They are very similar and have virtually the same specs.

According to this YouTube video comparison (Yes, someone compares the two!) it appears the main difference is how the collars works. The BTD140 collar has to be pulled forward before mounting the bit, while with the BTD141 you just put the bit in and it locks into place.

I agree that it is curious that the kits have one versus the other, but the BTD141 seems to be an improvement.

Wow - no matter the obscure, esoteric, bespoke topic... the intertubes deliver! Thanks, I'll keep the newer model.

I bought the LXT211 combo at Home Depot yesterday. Includes BTD141 Impact Driver and BHP452 Hammer Driver-Drill and two 3amp batteries for $299. Also bought a $3 pack of pneumatic nails to exceed $300 so I received $75 off. Net cost was $225. HD sale on until 5/6. Now I plan to send in for my free reciprocating saw.

Can you share the SKU or model number of those pneumatic nails/fasteners?

Just buy anything - he bought a box of nails for $3 from the shelf. Anything will do.

I bought Porter Cable 3/4" Galv Brad Nails (SKU 039404117151) for an air gun- $3.98.
Not everything applies for the $300 deal. The additional purchase has to be from a list of eligible items. The clerk suggested what items were eligible.

Thanks a lot for your info about the nails.
