Thanks for the deal OP. I was wondering if anyone could briefly tell me the advantages of using this software over what is already included in Windows System tools. Thanks

Seems legit - reviews say better than Windows defrag, but does not say why...

Just installed and asked me to restart when tried to defrag and started getting blue screen of death. Finally uninstalled this crap from safe mode to be able to boot.

Free is bad if it destroys your system. Just be wary. Otherwise, I've used JkDegraf, Auslogic, Diskkeeper w/o issues.

I have used that Smart Defrag for quite awhile now, listed in the link above, and it is very good.

Care to explain why?
Not really, just do a quick google search. They are constantly winning awards for their superior defrag software.

Oh well - as least it's easily solved by un-clicking that option

Stay away from this cheap crap.
You must have downloaded the Special Edition Blue Screen of death version

Stay away from this cheap crap. I had a similar experience while running Hard Drive Manager. I was using the backup function to transfer files from one external drive to another; the process evidently failed, and upon reboot, Windows would no longer load. It took a while before I figured out that HDM had overwritten the MBR; I loaded the Windows setup disc, had it clear the record, and booted back in without issue.
FWIW, the software itself isn't bad... but some of the ways it goes about things is a bit odd. I can understand why it touched the MBR, but it doesn't mean it was a good idea.
There's a lot of crap software at FW that's offered for "free" now and then. This program, from Paragon, isn't one of them. Paragon is based in Europe and the language and appearance of some of their stuff seems a little odd to U.S. users, but their quality is usually very good.
I don't need this defrag software but if I did I wouldn't hesitate. Like I said, there's a lot of other stuff I'd stay away from - like anything from CA.

Windows has a defrag utility built in... run it over night and you are good to go in the AM. No need to bloat your system with unneeded garbage, IMO!
OP, why would you give a link to the UK site with very slow download speed when one can download easily from the vendor and just enter the key to activate it? Am I missing anything?
Update 03/09 9:40pm: It turns out the trial s/w from vendor site IS different than the download from UK. The trial version has no place to enter serial number and must be uninstalled and replaced by the OP's link version. BAD way of doing things. I will pass!!

My co-workers and I have tested multiple defrag programs. Raxco perfectdisk O&O Defrag Diskeeper
Hands down the winner is O&O defrag. You can defrag in 5 or 6 different ways. STEALTH MODE SPACE MODE by FILE ACCESS/MOST OFTEN by FILES MODIFIED Both on workstations AND servers.
The other sys admins were apprehensive about testing a server defrag utility on our server ,especially since it had a RAID array. But O&O really cleaned things up fast and there was NO PROBLEMS, NO DATA LOSS!
The most troublesome was Diskeeper. It could never get ahead of the fragmentation situation. And couldn't even break even. It was always playing catch up. It was like it was defragging at a rate that was slower than the fragmentation was occurring. We demo'd it for our servers for a 3 week period. We finally had to give up and remove it.
The runner up to O&O would have to be Raxco Perfect disk. Not the most flashy, or tweakable, but it gets the job done. Dependable.

Naturally these are not freebies, but signing up with the O&O software newsletter, I've gotten some utilities at a discount for my home PC also.

There are a lot of good programs there.
I've downloaded there for several years without any problems.
If you go to their download area and search for "Full commercial" or Full commerical version" you can find some of the previous full version freebies they offered.
The PC magazines from the UK, as seen in Barnes and Noble at your local mall, come with some really good offerings via the DVD they include inside with their mags. Magazine titles like: PC PRO PC PLUS PC ADVISOR
