The price on the T-Mobile Cameo photo frame has changed to $39.99 (from $99.99) and the monthly service is now $1.99/month (from $10/month). For those who haven't heard, the Cameo has it's own phone number and e-mail, and upon receipt of pictures sent to it, sets the picture up in the digital frame.
Currently no contract and no activation fee. No time limit, so if you want it as just the digital frame, cancel the service after a month.
I purchased 3 - one for me, one for a 21st birthday, and one for a portion of a HS graduation gift.
It's only available from a retail store. I called my local store and they quoted $100 for it plus $1.99 monthly service charge. They offered to match the 39.99 price if I could bring a printout.
Actually, something like this would be great for the parents. Take a pic and send it off to them instantly. Not bad for $1.99 per month. Worth looking into. Thanks OP!

Sounds like a very good idea. Is there a roaming charge for this "photo phone"? I would happily buy couple if I can take them to another country.

im not a t-mo customer. Available only in T-Mobile RETAIL STORES, and can only be added on to a T-Mobile account, not available as stand alone service.

Bump! It seems that everybody I have talked to has been ripped off by T-mo rebates! this may be so, but i just did an upgrade and sent in for a $50 rebate (which now comes in a prepaid visa rather than a check) - i sent it in end of january and received it by end of february. < 4 week turnaround is pretty good imo.

My experience is that rebates for postpaid accounts with contracts go without a hitch; OTOH, prepaid rebates are a huge hassle. But I've gotten each of them eventually.

I've gotten all 3 of my rebates from T-mo over the years even though the last 2 were slowed down by doing a MSISDN reuse which technically voided any rebates. If the other complaints refer to the free airline ticket fiasco, that was offered through a third party and only superficially involved T-mo.

Couple of notes: There IS a $35 activation fee (as with all new lines). They activate it as an entirely new line on your plan, so it WILL count towards the number of lines you are approved for, if you already have 5 lines, you will most likely not be able to add it, nor can you add it if you are not approved for enough lines, and they will run your credit.
You can NOT add it if you have a corporate discount (like the freelancers deal from here on FW). At least, that is what I learned in the hour it took them to activate the damn thing.
Frame itself is quite nice, photos arrive in about a minute, depending on the size, since it is GPRS (no EDGE or 3G) it is pretty slow.
Yes, you can e-mail the frame pictures from any e-mail account, or pictures from any cell phone - regardless of the network of the sender.
There was NO activation fee, and the rep and I discussed this. Rep specifically ADDED my corp discount, without my asking and informed me I had a 15% corp discount. She also informed me that it would be a totally separate account from my cell phone # (although they can research my account through cell phone #) and told me that I would receive a different bill for the CAMEOs.

To be honest, they could have simply been wrong - even though this was a corporate store, they had absolutely no idea what they were doing. I'm hoping they were indeed just wrong.
EDIT: CSR confirmed that there is indeed NO activation fee - store was wrong again...
I went to the store and got a couple of these frames. To put it simply: they are a nice piece of technology for the price and the service you get. Here is what you can do: Get pictures Via text message from any one using any carrier Via e-mail. From any family member anywhere in the world. They get uploaded automatically. Via USB and memory card. Get Texts and E-mails This is not on the instruction manual but I have tested both e-mails and simple text messages, and they all pop up on the frame. Really cool feature.
There is no activation fee. The contract you sign indicates that there an exception of this fee for this type of device. There is no contract. The frame is 39.99 and the service is 1.99
