Worth more then $10 in most states....

Free Fishing Day 2009
Free fishing days nationwide. Enjoy free fishing without having to purchase a license. Many states use the first weekend in June. Also, look into National Hunting and Fishing Day in late September. Be sure to check your specific state's regulations for details and Dates and further information. Some states still require special stamps to fish for trout, salmon, etc. on free fishing days or restrict free fishing to freshwater/saltwater. Other states allow free fishing year-round to disabled veterans, senior citizens, children, etc. This is a great way to introduce a husband, wife, child, friend to fishing.

Great find, OP, just stay out of my honey hole!

This isn't a deal and it isn't hot......

Nice info, but shouldn't this go under "Free Stuff?"

Good info to know, read about it on SD earlier, but its not a hot deal...

Only under "Free Stuff" if value is less than $10. As OP stated it's worth more than $10 in most states

I did't know that license is required for fishing. Never fished..would love to though.

ha ha...same here...

ah, family day with my kids. I will go fishing with my kids on those two days.

These are good for out of staters too?

yes they are.

if you are a fisherman who has a license, its a good idea to stay off the water these days due to the influx of noobs.

I'm an avid fisherman. You don't need a license if you're fishing off the pier. Lakes, beach, ocean, etc., you'll need a license.

EDIT: Oh woops for CA (at least). Check with your state laws.

this is a HOT deal for ME! i was about go spend 20-30 bucks on a licence here in texas, free year round at state parks!!! yay!

PA dates are wrong - well the one is

http://www.fish.state.pa.us/promo/fff/fffindex.htm

according to that site, the second PA day is on 6-7-09 not 6-6-09

AWESOME post! Great to have all the info in 1 place!!!

That is based upon the state you live in, and definately false in North Carolina.

From NC Division of Marine Fisheries

Will I need a license to fish on a private or public pier?
Yes, unless the public pier has purchased a blanket license.

Will I need a license to fish from the shore?
Yes, if you are fishing recreationally for finfish in coastal waters, you will need a CRFL.

For WI:
June 6-7

Just got my FL saltwater license yesterday, $17 for one year.

Usually not. Out of staters usually require a permit even on free/special days.

great thanks

Just to clarify, California Free Days are 7/4/09 and 9/7/09 only
CA Free Days

good information! Thank you!

Just as an FYI to new anglers, 4th of july week gets hella busy for charter boats. Reserve early to be safe. Also, the variety of fish is different in July as opposed to September. Plan accordingly, and check the fishing reports!

A freebie worth more than $10 can be posted in BOTH free stuff and hotdeals.

I so rarely look at hotdeals...I wish more good freebies would be dbl-posted.
(hint, hint!)

thanks

Good chance to try it then!

I'm in Texas, didn't realize it's free (or recently free) to fish at state parks year-round. I always thought, that's where all the fishing rangers are, so you'd better have your license there (rarely have seen a rangers at the smaller lakes outside of state parks asking about your license).

I didn't realize the free fishing day was such a hidden secret.

Heads Up, A lot of states will have free fishing day in the next week....

Again, nonresident rules vary by state. New York's free fishing weekend (last full weekend in June) is available to all. I fished on Lake Seneca this June while visiting family up there.
