yes they are. if you are a fisherman who has a license, its a good idea to stay off the water these days due to the influx of noobs. |

I did't know that license is required for fishing. Never fished..would love to though. I'm an avid fisherman. You don't need a license if you're fishing off the pier. Lakes, beach, ocean, etc., you'll need a license. EDIT: Oh woops for CA (at least). Check with your state laws. |

I'm an avid fisherman. You don't need a license if you're fishing off the pier. Lakes, beach, ocean, etc., you'll need a license. That is based upon the state you live in, and definately false in North Carolina. From NC Division of Marine Fisheries Will I need a license to fish on a private or public pier? Yes, unless the public pier has purchased a blanket license. Will I need a license to fish from the shore? Yes, if you are fishing recreationally for finfish in coastal waters, you will need a CRFL. |

Just as an FYI to new anglers, 4th of july week gets hella busy for charter boats. Reserve early to be safe. Also, the variety of fish is different in July as opposed to September. Plan accordingly, and check the fishing reports! |

Good chance to try it then! I'm in Texas, didn't realize it's free (or recently free) to fish at state parks year-round. I always thought, that's where all the fishing rangers are, so you'd better have your license there (rarely have seen a rangers at the smaller lakes outside of state parks asking about your license). |
