Betamax has yet again launched a new VOIP service and adds more variety to their existing VOIP offering. The good part of this new VOIP service ActionVOIP is of course the best and most cheapest calling rates to India.
Regarding the voice quality, Betamax voice quality has always been good (I have never experienced problems regarding voice quality offered by ActionVoip).

You can make either PC to Phone calls using ActionVoip. You can also use Actionvoip from local access number in your country, however currently the local access number dialing facility is available in a few countries mostly european countries only.Just download their Voip application (softphone). You can also use your SIP phone/SIP settings in your Mobile for making voip phone calls.

cost of calling anywhere in the world over VoIP should not be more then a couple cents.

What if the call terminates on a non-local PSTN/mobile network?

BTW did anyone register? I'd like to see what is the minimum credit that you have to buy...

Looks like Euro10. Similar to Skype's minimum credit. They accept paypal. I am about to pull the trigger. If it works (reviews seem ok, but lets see), my cost per minute to India will fall by 70% (from 3 cents to a cent). Nice!

Looks like a good deal. I can configure my Linksys Pap2 with this and get a decent rate.

Can any explain better. 5 Do the receiving party in india need internet and computer?

They need to send an SMS message to Mobile phone for conformation. Their stupid system does not recognize my AT&T phone number..

No

thanks

i have been using FREECALL from BETAMAX.
FRECALL has been charging 2 cents per minute to landline.
i never had any problem,
I think i am going to use actionvoip too.

More fun part with frecall is calls to any number in usa is free when you call through computer
We can buy credits through PAYPAL or any credit card.
I liked freecall.

The only drawback is you have to download their software.
However conisdering the cheap call rates relative to relliacne or airtel $0.05 is great.

Thanks for the post

Great rates. Thanks OP! Just signed up.
This is similar to voipwise or intervoip that I have used in the past, their rates are now about 3.9 cents per minute. This is 1.3 cents per minute or below, which is awesome! I think the only we have to watch out for the change in the rates. These sites change their rates constantly, and the only way you'll know is to check the rates on the site.

To another poster - this is a PC to Phone service, the other party does not need internet or pc. You can also use to phone to phone service, with another 5 cents connection fee per call.

You need to use +1 prefix with your phone number.

I think AllVoi is worth checking out with their 1300 mins for $24.99 (+tax comes to about $31/mth) additional min at 2.2 cents/min

I use this site to find the cheapest BetaMax rates to any particular country:

http://backsla.sh/betamax

Seems the site has not yet added Actionvoip.com into the list though.

Been a regular user of Reliance/Airtel. Rather skeptical trying these new services out -- since they usually bad quality and/or some hidden costs/gotchas. Anyone has a tried and tested cheap calling service (to India) to recommend? Is AllVoip worth giving a shot?

dvrvarma said: Can any explain better. 5 Do the receiving party in india need internet and computer?

No. Calling party has to have internet. If the receiving party also has internet, call would be free from a variety of sources e.g. Skype, Gizmo etc.

You can't get ahead if you don't take risk. Try some services for a low one-time cost and if you like it, continue with it. There are now dozens of good providers with rates around 3.5 cents per minute with promotions. Reliance has accumulated a large captive market in the US and has no incentive to lower rates on everybody to get a few additional subscribers (so they continue with their high rates). Other providers are trying to eat each other's cake and constantly lower their prices.

Is there any way I can try out a free call to local US numbers? The FAQ says that we can try out local numbers and we won't be charged. However, when I try out a local call, it says that I don't have enough credit. I tried with the prefix '001' and '1' for US numbers. Didn't work. I would really like to try out first before I charge up the minimum amount (10 EUR or 14.6 USD with tax on paypal). Please update if anyone is able to make a free test call without purchasing the minimum credit. Thanks

I have been using Reliance and Airtel since long too.
Recently have started using LocalPhone.com. Their calling rates are low and a very good quality too (I dial mostly Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore).

And on a rare occasion when I didn't get an acceptable quality (which has been rare), I used Reliance/ Airtel!!!

I've been using betamax(voipbuster, voipdiscount, etc.) for local and international calls for over 3 years, never had any problems and am very satisfied with call quality

I have used Intervoip.com and dumped it in favor of Localphone.com and pondering over AllVoip and now this comes. Betamax has bad rep and I think they are fine. The only question is why are they creating over night companies, do they have resellers.

I like this one much better and it's already added Actionvoip to the list, check it out

Thanks OP for sharing.

I downloaded and loaded 10 Euros (==$15) to ActionVoip. Here are my remarks:

-Called 3 international cell phones, reception 8/10 (very good), very cheap: 3 cents vs 25 cents I pay on Skype
-Called an international land line. Also very cheap: less than 1 cent per min, connection was choppy: 6/10

Beware: I allowed it to import my Skype contacts. It then asked if it should invite my Skype contacts to ActionVoip, to which I said No and it still send a message to everyone on my contact list!

I am not happy that it messaged my Skype contacts against my will and that i had 1 bad connection already. I will give it a few more tries before deciding to keep using it or not.

Thanks for the review mergezer... I have set it up, but have not yet pulled the trigger... Like TrueRoots for it's convenience, but their rates are steadily creeping up up and up... So thinking about this vs that...

Let us know your reviews, please!!

agarpiyush said: Anyone has a tried and tested cheap calling service (to India) to recommend? Is AllVoip worth giving a shot?

Been using ALLVOI for about 2 months now and so far am happy and the call quality has been consistent...

You are using PC, I will say we would like to hear some PAP2 experience. I just registered and now PAP2 is on will call India when they wake up and will post some experience of different calls.

Since we are on this topic of VOIP and I know, Indians are very fast in switching if a better deal comes, is there any thing better than ALLVOI when you need US+India.

ActionVOIP does not have a US number for call in - rate need to see when I call.

Localphone.com gives you a London number to call in, rate 2.9

Both are US calls 0.7 (0.007 rate notation in dollars) cent per minute. Switched from Vonage to Majic Jack being cheap but now need best quality. Vonage was 20$ per month. Using Majic jack from Aug-08 and have recovered the money of 5 years Majic Jack so not worried if it is junked. Vonage was blanking out for 30 seconds when had to swap with Majic Jack.

I did run Asterisk for a while then BSNL did something and PAP was never on in India, I can come back if someone has some link to a short note on defining trunks because all these should translate to better deal via Asterisk.

Be careful with Betamax related companies when using SIP device - used voipraider.com advertised rate was 0.03cents however when used a SIP device they started charging me 0.08 cents - customer service - does not exist at all!

is the price 0.007 cents or 0.007 dollars?

where can u check the rates for international calling for Magic Jack, how it works?

amilcarsanchez said: is the price 0.007 cents or 0.007 dollars?

one more, lol

Looks to be a good deal.
I jumped in and bought 10 euro credits, comes a little under $15 bought via paypal.
The voice quality is decent, my dh is gabbing on it now.
I got irked by reliance where they celebrate by giving higher rates to loyal existing customers than to new customers. Of course that's to attract them, at least they could extend that rate to existing ones. Glad I didn't recharge and found this one.
Thanks OP.

amilcarsanchez said: is the price 0.007 cents or 0.007 dollars?

0.007 cents

That is 7/1000ths of a cent....
That = a whole lotta minutes for 1¢

Another note to keep a watch!

Rates are charged in Eurocents per minute and calls are rounded up to next minute. All rights reserved. Rates are subjected to change without notice.

** Actionvoip reserves the right after a certain amount of calls to start charging the default rate.

amilcarsanchez said: is the price 0.007 cents or 0.007 dollars?

Maybe Verizon knows the answer?

Magic Jack is 5cents per minute. It used to show on that ugly application which runs on desktop.

I used it for 13 Euro cents and call quality seems like localphone.com or intervoip.com (I know they are same). In general not bad, I kind of declare now we have one uniform rate.

its fraud totally fraud its cheating dont buy any one

no customer support please help me how to get my money back i paid through paypal.
thanks

You have to subscribe to Ooma premier which is $119/year or $10/month, then also pay $5.00 each month for 500 minutes to bunch of countries.
