$999 now but I don't see any rebate posted yet. Any free shipping code?

It's actually the NEW white plastic Macbook. And as an owner of both the old plastic and new aluminum then I would say that this model has many benefits that make it BETTER than the Aluminum.
- Both have the same Nvidia 9400M - Firewire 400 (they took it out in Aluminum) - Glossy, but not as reflective as the Aluminum glass screen - DDR2 is much cheaper to upgrade (DDR3 is fast but this is a consumer system) - $799 is $500 cheaper
I really dislike the color which is why i got my wife the aluminum. But other than that, I'd probably go for this one because at $799 then it really is a value.

I think the plastic macbooks also get slightly better wifi signals then the unibody ones.
The cheapest place I found so far is at OnSale/ClubMac. They have it for $914 - $75 MIR = $839.

Just in case people are interested, I was in a MC (LI, NY)on Friday, and they had the new Aluminum MacBooks for $1150. In most places including Apple stores, these macbooks are running for 1300.

well this white macbook is on apple too...as you refer to the new one it has also different specification and a higher price...so the comparsion is not really valid
It's showing the rebate now. Too bad it took so long. Now I've had time to rationally think about it and decide I don't have $800 for a new laptop. If only I could have impulsively bought it when I'd first seen the post. I'd have an awesome new mac on it's way.
i have bought from microcenter before they are ok and even paid my rebate. Check to see if they have a credit card rebate available, they sometimes have a $100 rebate for opening a charge card

seriously why is this hot..i mean unless you are an apple fan which i can understand..but the specification compared to PC..its pretty expensive. What's the lowest price of a different brand laptop for these specs?

Good one if you get the rebate.
Windows laptops with NVDIA graphic card costs around $600.
Considering the build quality and not to forget high resale value of apple products, This will be a decent one to get on board with MAC.
we could argue this until the cows come home, but I would say 2 equally powerful laptops, one running vista and one running OSX, the mac will run faster and more efficiently b/c of the operating system. PCs are better at some things, but macs tend to use less battery power, have better form factor, can run windows wheres few pc's can run OSX, no real need for anti-virus software, etc etc. make your own decision though.

7 edges out OSX anyday, Macs use more battery power than Vista on the same configuration and all personal computers can install OSX. No need for anti-virus because the Mac sector is tiny and those with Macs are poor and so trojan makers don't even bother to steal your credit info. Be more informed before advising people to make a decision.

How about this... if you want it, and can pay for it, buy it. If you have enough to pay for it and don't want it, buy a PC. If you can't pay for either one, don't buy either.

Just like Apache doesn't have any viruses written for it because no one uses it to host anything. Just like BSD doesn't have any viruses written for it because nothing runs that.
It's a Lenovo. Once you use a Lenovo, you'll realize why people stick with Lenovo's. No flashy stuff, not pretty, but damn sure gets business done. Not for the typical user who is around screwing around on the laptop. This is a laptop for people who actually get work done and help the world turn.

Nuff said?
I hope you have taken an economics course or know anything about macroeconomics. Whenever a consumer makes a purchase, he/she is casting a vote for that product with his/her purchase and therefore the manufacturer will stay in business and continue to create more supply. If that supply is inadequate quality products feeding on the de-evolution of mankind (aka Apple), then preventing such purchase will cause demand to drop and thus future supply drop and there will help the progress of technology via other manufacturers (anthing BUT Apple).

I'd hold out for a thinkpad istead of an ideapad.
Also, even if you run windows on this machine it's not a bad deal...the hardware you're getting for 800 is pretty nice.

hmmm - trying to understand if you misunderstood my post, or i am misunderstanding what you have written...Stollen123 wrote - "...its pretty expensive..." so i asked him if there is something that is cheaper than 799 - and you recommend a laptop that is 80 bucks more??
i am asking Stollen123 to put his money where his mouth is, and prove that he can find me a similar laptop that is 'much' cheaper...
i dont think your recommendation does it... while i realize that it is fashionable to be anti-apple, sometimes it just doesnt make sense...(and this is one of those times...)
my brother is going to college and I was given the duty of getting him an Apple laptop because he wants one. is thia a good deal if you are looking to buy a MAC?

Actually this isn't a bad price for this type of notebook. It does have less hard drive space and ram compared to other in its price range. But the build quality and LCD are better then average.
You can easily run bootcamp and load a copy of Windows XP and run both via dual boot easily. That way if you like to think of it this way, you pay $400 for the PC and $400 for the Mac. I had a $10 student version of XP so not much to load XP on this Macbook. No more Mac vs PC, I have both in one computer. Much tougher to get Mac on a PC working smoothly, but can be done depending on your hardware. Thanks OP, in for 1.

There are other aspects too... if you want to bust into iphone apps, this is the cheapest mobile way. This is what I'm considering.
acsguitar said: I totally got this same laptop for 400 dollars the other week. Except it was 15.4 inches and had a bigger harddrive and faster proc and wasn't a Mac.
But does yours boot up in 40 seconds to a state that you can actually use it (no programs loading causing further delays), have optical audio out, run all software you have on it quickly and efficiently with out crashes and shutdown in less than 5 seconds when you are done?
I was 'anti Mac' in a sense until I bought this thing and I have to say, it's definitely one of the best laptops I've ever owned. There are some things I miss about my Windows notebooks but this thing is so stable, performs so well for such a low spec'd machine and serves as an awesome 'media center' PC for Netflix streaming, Hulu, DVD images and etc. I love my Mac notebook.
I have both a Dell XPS 720 desktop and this Macbook and I love both, but they are used for different purposes.
