These are probably the crappy DealExtreme "Health" e-cigs. Over at www.e-cigarette-forum.com they all agree the health ones are horrible. A good one to start vaping can be found HERE. Yes, it's from China and paypal only, but i read they are reliable. Nonsmokers, can butt out (pun intended). I just started vaping this week and my cig usage is down like 90%.

In for one, even if I don't like the "taste", it will still save me money from buying cigs. Green for you.

www.e-cigarette-forum.com has more than enough info about this smartass.. Basically it's Propylene Glycol (fog machine stuff), nicotine, and flavoring. Smokers get their fix and there is no odor/tar/additives. I forgot to mention, I have the model linked above (DSE901) and it works well.

Make sure to get e-juice/smoke juice to top off your cartridges. They dry out fast. I got the sampler at www.puresmoker.com since I didn't know what flavor to get. If you buy the e-cig the OP posted, you'll probably be disappointed...

How do these compare costwise to reg cigs? Hubby smokes and the cost drives me crazy
Dragonlord, listen to yourself. E-cigs? Vaping? E-juice? Seriously dude...if you want to smoke, then by all means, go at it. And if you want to quit, then man up and take the pain. But your "non-smoking" smoking...and your posts about it...sound absolutely ridiculous.
Besides, it's obvious that if you want to be healthy, you should only be smoking smarties.

Yes, I have been using the DSE901 for more than 2 months having converted from 1 pack of Malboro a day. I actually like it better as there is no lingering smell of burning tobacco on my clothes. I use 1 30 ml bottle a month(~$19.95 + $5.00 S&H). So it ends up a lot cheaper than buying cigarettes.
The government should use the tobacco tax money (paid by smokers) to conduct clinical trials and to pursue further improvements of the device.

This device allows smokers to "smoke" ANYWHERE smoking is banned. Have you ever been on a long flight with a bunch of smokers? 2. I actually don't WANT to quit. I know what will happen if I do keep smoking, and these are not nearly as harmful. 3. No odor - no stinky clothes/car/house etc.... well, my car smells more like capuccino now 4. Many longtime smokers (arguably the hardest to quit) convert to these pretty easily.
I'm spewing alot in this thread mostly because I just started vaping and I did alot of research before I started. The new taxes influenced my purchase too. rbraden, maybe you should research things a little before criticizing.

I think I'm going to get a penstyle eventually, cuz filling it up all the time kinda sucks. The FDA has their eye on these too but it's not to improve the device - its to protect who fills their pockets, Big Tobacco and Big Pharma (Chantix, nic gum, etc).

sln888 said: How do these compare costwise to reg cigs? Hubby smokes and the cost drives me crazy OK, the "price of admission" is where most of the cost is. $30 for the DSE901 kit $10 Extra battery $15 Extra Atomizer $10-30 E-juice $1 Extra cartridge $20 USB connector so you don't have to use a battery.
The batteries, atomizers, and cartridges all wear out (some sooner than others) and liquid gets used up. In the long run, it is alot cheaper than cigs and the health benefits are well..priceless. The big problem right now is finding stuff in stock. The new taxes brought in a lot of new people and paranoia about the FDA cracking down on them makes things worse.
This is the part that scares me on these things: CNN Article said: Smoking Everywhere is "pretty sure" the product is safe, based on laboratory testing in Europe, Taieb said. The company declined a CNN request to review safety reports.
"There are no ingredients in our e-cigs that can cause cancer. However, it is a pretty new product, so we are not 100 percent sure of the side effects at this point," Taieb said. "But we haven't heard of any negative side effects yet, but we are pretty sure they are safe."
These folks haven't tested either jack nor squat. They're just a bunch of Sham Wow guys out to make a quick buck. Seriously, would you trust your life to someone like that bearded whack job Billy Mays who keeps trying to convince us all that Super Putty is strong enough to pull a bulldozer?
rbraden needs to go away if he has no interst in this product or the "hot deal" Perhaps the mods should politely ask him to if he chooses not to.
Dragonlord2112 I do have an interest in these. I have some questions though. I typically smoke 1 pack of menthols a day. If I order the suggested "Black DSE901 Mini E-cig Starter Kit + 5 Cartridges free", what else would you suggest I order along with it to keep from having to order again, for say 1 month? Spare batteries, atomizers and any suggestions for dosage, and how long the cartridges last? How long does a battery charge typiclly last? I am gonna do this, but I don't want to have to order very often if I can help it. Thanks for your information on these. It has been helpful and I hope you have some further suggestions.

OK, I'm gonna answer both of the previous posts. Safety - Propylene Glycol (the main ingredient) is classified as safe by the FDA. Being inhaled is the gray area. So if these are somehow classified as unsafe, what does that make regular cigarettes??? If they ban these by that logic they should ban tobacco cigs because they are dangerous too... that's my reasoning. As far as sham-wow-ishness, I will say that I have have smoked exactly 4 regualar cigs in the past two days (from about maybe 15 a day). It's hardly a scam (although my friend likes his sham-wow lol) Funny part is regular cigs just don't taste quite so good anymore. I think I still have an addiction to the additives in reg smokes that's why i had a couple.
Gemsmurf - There is alot of info in those forums I linked in the quick summary (especially for newbies). There is also links to many sellers too in the US if ordering from China worries you. A typical kit comes with 2 batteries, charger, carts, and 1 atomizer. You should have at least 1 or 2 extra atomizers since they seem to have the most unpredictable lifespan. Carts are refillable with juice, but the poly filling kinda wears out (you can get more filling at a craft store for like $2 a bag). Carts are cheap if you don't want to do that - plan on like 10 carts or so for a month. Dosage is the trickiest. I started with LOW (11mg) since I usually smoke ultra-lites and I was buzzin the first day. The starter carts come in different dosages so you can see what you like. Batteries are Li-ion so they work pretty good and recharge pretty quick. Using a battery gets me about 3-4 hours of smoke, so charge an extra or two. If you work behind a desk, get a USB passthrough - no battery needed. Most of all get a big bottle of juice - the ds901 isn't terribly efficient with using up everything in the cart - the back half seems to always stay wet. All it takes is 2-3 drops of juice and you are good for a little bit; you'll know it's out by the way it tastes. If you don't mind ordering from China they are ALOT cheaper: see www.ruyandirect.com and www.eastmall.net Hope that helps. Oh btw Menthol juice is very popular and I heard it's really good.
Also check the Material Safety Data Sheet on the internet for: propylene glycol (PG), glycerin, nicotine, etc. to find out whether any of them is a carcinogen. If the government is not willing to conduct research, we can do our own research, read or you can even send an e juice sample to a local lab for testing.
I heard that the formula for this mixture of PG and nicotine was found by the tobacco company back in 1994 as a safe mechanism for the delivery of nicotine. The tobacco companies opted to put it in the safe as they are afraid it would jeopardize their existing profitable cigarette market.

In your second link, the article concluded:
"The idea that that e-cigs may be a good tobacco smoke alternative in the future could hold true, the FDA and WHO acknowledged, but proof of the product's safety must come first. "
So the question remains that who will come up with proof of the product's safety. Would that be the FDA herself? Which organization would have a large number of highly skilled scientists who can quickly design and conduct clinical trials for the e-cigarettes? And even with FDA approval, it does not mean that the device is 100% safe and effective. Have you heard of FDA recalls of products?

Dragonlord2112, I'm going to try these, and decided to go with the cartridges to start. I can't find the menthol juice you were referring to, do I just need to order the 'mint cartridges' if I'm a menthol smoker?
Thanks Dragonlord2112! I placed my order and used coupon save5 for a very slight discount. I then found another coupon code ecblog for %25 off! I emailed customer service to get it refunded but... Anyone placing an order might try that coupon and report back whether it works or not. Thanks again!
Give the patch and nicotine gum a try before doing these things. Both have been fully studied for their health effects and are proven to work for many people. I quit a pack+ a day habit by using the patch and using gum for sudden urges.
I also can't help but think what offensive looks you'll continue to get from hardcore non-smokers when using these things, or how many times you'll have to explain to waiters/stewardesses and easily offended types that it really isn't a cigarette.
Give the patch and gum a try. Better option, in my book.
Being around propylene glycol has been studied, but sucking it directly into your lungs for extended periods has NOT. Sucking pure nicotine into your lungs has also not been studied. Who is responsible for doing all of these studies, double blinds with placebo's? The manufacturers of course. They then submit their research to the FDA for approval. The FDA then checks their research, and if they agree with the study AND its methodology, THEN they will approve the product. As it it, we only have one short trial on humans, and no results from that yet, so there isn't anything out there to say these things are safe.
Yes, they may end up being perfectly safe. They may end up being a fantastic smoking cessation aid. They MAY end up being a LOT of things, but until we KNOW I for one don't intend to be a human guinea pig for someone out to make a fast buck. I sure as heck don't intend to be a human guinea pig for a Chinese company because they have shown absolutely ZERO interest in public safety so far, and have even been willing to contaminate their own products in order to make more money. There is a certain level of trust that I MUST have before I put my health into someone elses hands, and I have not seen anything so far on these e-Cigs that would engender that trust.
That said, I'm not a huge anti-tobacco nut. Yes, I quit smoking cigarettes a long time ago, and yes I've seen cigarettes kill two of my Grandparents, and yes I do try to talk people out of smoking cigarettes. Yes, I also smoke a good cigar from time to time and see nothing wrong in that. Cigars are a totally different animal, plus I don't smoke more than 10 or so per calendar year.
If you are bound and determined to use these things now, then I'd tell you to buy quickly because the US and Canadian governments seem pretty hell bent on cracking down on the importation and sale of these things until they do the proper testing and are approved by their respective governmental agencies. In other words, these things may end up becoming hard to find soon, so stock up! I don't know about the supplies, but part of me suspects they'll slip through the cracks and people who already own these things will be able to continue getting what they need via teh intrawebs.
Again, the concept seems very cool, but the science is just not there. Personally, I won't trust these things until it is...

To be clear, the device itself could have been a Chinese invention. I do not think the smoke juice, nicotine solution in PG and/or glycerin was a Chinese invention.

This isn't a quit smoking or smoking cessation device. It is simply an alternative to smoking. Pack a day smokers should get a e- Cigar at best. Or a Pilot Hybrid. Puresmokers < http://puresmoker.com > Bada Bing works perfectly for me. My wife even let's me puff it inside the house and truck. ( She has never smoked, and has a nose for nice perfumes only ). I use the Vanilla Ice Cream, Wild Cherry, and CasH Cola flavors the most. My clothes no longer stink, my lungs are clearing up, I cough much less, and I prefer these over ANY cigarette I have smoked in the last 35 years.
I also use the VG ( Vegetable Glycol ) instead of the PG ( Propylene Glycol ) based e-juice... because the VG blends don't dry my throat out as much as the PG blends. I get the e-juice from Johnsons Creek and PureSmoker. The other ingredients ( from reputable US dealers ) are water, nicotine, and flavorings. The e-juices come in various strengths from high to no nicotine content.
Keep away from children as concentrated nicotine is poisonous, like many of our food additives are these days.
People in Asia and Japan have been using these things for 3 years now. Europe has had them for more then 2 years. They've been in America for basically a year, year and a half. No reports of any health problems from anyone.
There are at least 3 studies that have been done on these, and all 3 report no ill effects. Long term studies are still ongoing.
And NO, I do not trust the FDA to come to an honest evaluation on these. History shows that the FDA is not very competent. Many of the drugs they have ok'ed in America in the last several years have proven to have very bad health consequences for people. To the point where the drug makers get sued, and the FDA recently stated that they aren't to blame for giving the green light to any drug that eventually gets the manufacturer sued. ( Really Ironic ).
So these are my personal choice to use, while I still have that choice. And they have, indeed, reduced my desire for regular analog cigarettes by around 90%. Not everyone will realize this though. Again, These are not a smoking cessation device. They will not make you quit smoking. In fact, the tobacco companies have combined certain chemicals in regular cigarettes that produce certain feelings and effects in a persons body, that many people will miss if you DO try to quit smoking while using e-cigarettes as a crutch. These are just an alternative to smoking a cigarette for nicotine content. A personal vaporizer, if you will. These lack the Tar and Tobacco and the smell and the mess ( no ashtrays ) and the roughly 2,000 other chemicals found in regular cigarettes. Thus I chose to e-smoke.
BTW, "smoking" an e-cig is called 'Vaping' by some, because exhaling of the e-juice is mainly JUST a vapor from the personal vaporizer ). No smoke, no fire, no combustion, and thus little to know C02.
K, enough said. I've provided a few companies that are well known for very good product and service in the text above for those that asked. And you all have the e-cigaretteforum info already. There is a lot to read there. And I hope that I've answered a few of the questions raised here today.
Best wishes all.

So why are we paying income taxes, sales taxes, and especially tobacco taxes, etc? Are FDA employees volunteers or the agency is funded by tax payer's money?
The government increases tobacco tax to force smokers to quit. That tax money should be spent to find a safer alternative? I do enjoy the smoke-like vapor and smoking if it is safe just like some of the non-smokers who enjoy the barbeque smoke. And if I pay I have the right to demand something done in return. Now that is capitalism, my friend.
