Sharing a deal that I ran into at NTB yesterday. Sumitomo Touring tires are sold under NTB brand as TBC Tempest Touring Plus. Regular price for Sumitomo's is around $100, normal price for the OEM version is $66; sale price thru Sunday is $56. Had the 205-60-15 put on my car yesterday. Tires feel good but don't all new tires feel that way!
This has to be one of the crappiest post I've seen here. You are first assuming that the C grade tires they sold you are as good as regular Sumitomo brand. Just by that and looking at your tire size I can tell that you don't have a car in which you can really tell much difference between "good" and "bad" tires, either. To get good and cheap tires for my WRX I wait until TireRack has a 17" rim that I like, and I'm getting close to changing the tires. Then I get a complete set of clearance rims and tires for my car. Once I get them I change them myself and sell my older rim/tire combo locally for extra cash. It always ends up about the same as just getting so-so tires locally (so good tires + rims are a good bonus). That's my secret and it works very good...

So can someone give me a more clear answer about the quality of the Sumitomo Tempest Touring Tire. They sell them at Tire Kingdom. I want to put them on a Jeep Wrangler. I dont do any off-roading - mainly city and highway driving (my wife's car not mine). I want a good tire for the vehicle but it doesnt need to be top of the line. There is about a $200-$215 difference between the Tempest Touring vs. the Uniroyal Cross Country and the BFGoodrich Long Trail Touring. The tire guy said the price difference is not worth going with the more expensive tire. Responses would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would stick to a Brand Name manufacture. Don't get me wrong you can get away with cheap tire. But when traveling 50+ mph and the only thing keeping you safe is 4 tire of brand X.
If you do decide to get "store brand" or smaller company name. See if it is actually manufactured by the larger companies (ie Michelin makes BF Goodrich) (Bridgestone own Firestone, and Dayton Consumer Tires)
Look for the DOT that is stamped on all tires, this will help you ID the tire manufacture. DOT database
