Perhaps WB just realized an excellent opportunity to take advantage of a group of naive comsumers with an already proven track record of making poor purchasing decisions. Look everybody, cnISfg found a way to get on people's ignore list! Good for him or her. |

Flags of Our Fathers is a Paramount title. I believe the two movies were joint productions of Warner and Paramount, and each got one title to release. rmmgt said:evilkoala said:ya, great deal. now do I upgrade my Harry Potter box set or keep it for the nostalgia.
According to the site, all you'd have to send them is case for the first movie in the boxset, not the movies or the cases for any others.
I'm wondering how Letters from Iwo Jima is on there but Flags of Our Fathers is not? |

it's an entire specialized set. It's like a paper sleeve or something and not a normal case. |

Hmmm. I wonder why they are not gathering up the discs themselves and sending them to the crusher like the EV1's? (GM's original electric car). http://www.ev1.org/ .... Sounds like a good deal. My Toshiba HD-DVD is still running strong, but my favorite/favorite movies ... I can swap out. I gotta see what I have at home, HDDVD movie wise. I haven't watched any in a while. Thanks OP! |

It seems like this is a good will/PR move on WB's part. They're apologizing a bit on bailing on HD DVD, and more or less causing its demise, while encouraging HD DVD owners to move on to BD, if they haven't already.
Sounds like a good deal. My Toshiba HD-DVD is still running strong, but my favorite/favorite movies ... I can swap out. Again, you keep the original HD DVD disc and just turn in the cover, so you can still play the discs in your player, you'll just also have the BD version. |

Such as awesome deal. How can you go wrong here? I have 9 disks to upgrade. Once I sell one or two of the Blu-rays I'll break even and I still have all the original HD-Dvds. Fantastic! |

Happy Feet - HD DVD has Dolby True HD...Blu-ray has lossy DD. Harry Potter 4 and 300 have PiP features on HD DVD that are not found on the Blu-ray. Perfect Storm has better PQ on the Blu-ray than the HD DVD. Casablanca MAY come as the CE which has an extra Doc. on Blu I Am Legend has more extras on Blu Matrix has an extra feature in HD on Blu I honestly don't think this comparison is relevant if you plan to keep both the HD-DVD disc (which you get to keep anyway) as well as the Blu-ray you get in the upgrade promotion. Now if you plan to sell the Blu-ray...it's a different story. Why wouldn't it be relevant? If you don't feel the need to upgrade your entire collection of Warner titles and only want to upgrade the ones that are improvement, it is relevant. If you were thinking of converting Happy Feet to Blu, why bother? The audio on the HD DVD is better. Maybe some people want to only convert where it is an upgrade. For them, it is relevant. I never said my post applied to everyone in this thread. Only to the people who are upgrading for that reason. And for them, I did a bunch of work. |

Eventually, my HD-DVD player will die. With this side-grade program I will still have a large number of my hi-def movies on Blu-Ray to play on my PS/3, or whatever other Blu-Ray player I am using at that time. This will be a much better option than buying extra HD-DVD players to store until my current player dies. Now if only the other studios would offer us a deal like this I'd be set! |

The majority of my collection from the WB are combo discs. I would lose dvd functionality. I might trade in the Harry Potter set to keep it all on one format. I threw away the paper thing that was loosely glued to my Matrix box set. Who knew that would be important. |

I am not so sure how 0wn3d those HD-DVD disk thread crappers are since 99% of these WB coversion titles being offered are $14.99 or less on Blu-Ray anyway? Many sell for under $10ea with the frequent B1G1 on Amazon. By the time you pay the $4.95 per title + $6.95+ S&H you might as well just have purchased the Blu-Ray titles without the trade-in offer. Perhaps WB just realized an excellent opportunity to take advantage of a group of naive comsumers with an already proven track record of making poor purchasing decisions. Well considering you are WRONG. 99% of them are not 14.99 or less...did you even LOOK before posting? Just for instance I went through my collection (that by the way I probably paid around $6/HD DVD movie...135 of them)and I came up with 22 "movies" I would exchange (actually $4.95 charges (box sets)It was actually 18 movies counting box sets as 1).....the average price on Amazon for them??? $22.23!...my, my that is quite a bit away from $14.99. Oh and when exactly was the last B1G1 Blu Ray deal on Amazon???? A few years ago? What could you get, maybe those $14.99 movies you were talking about? They did not put ALL Blu Ray on sale like that....it was always a poor selection, maybe 2 or 3 "good" movies and some fillers Also NONE of those sales have been B1G1 they have been B2G1, so fail again. This is a good deal as I am getting three box sets, HP, Matrix and Planet Earth which comes out to only $34.65 on the WB exchange...compared to $213.5 on Amazon. Anyways the total cost on Amazon? $422.50....the WB program??? $115.85...Oh that includes the $6.95 SH&H "deal killer" you were talking about. Plus I get to KEEP my HD DVDs. HOT DEAL, sorry you don't have anything to add except make believe scenarios where they are offering most Blu Ray for B1G1...which the good box sets were NOT included...nor were most good movies, they were always 30-40 movies several years old usually. By the way I checked the current B2B1 deal on Amazon...prices are a little higher and I found exactly 8 of the movies on this deal that I have....8...no box sets... a few good ones though 300, I am Legend...even if I put a random 9th movie in there(that isn't on the WB list that I own) it STILL comes out to $16 per movie...still way short of your claim. 99% are $14.99 or LESS on Amazon...I guess you had a happy 420 day huh? Thanks OP, great find...way to go WB also. |
