kre0380 said:Good deal OP for those stuck with a dusty HDDVD player and wanting to upgarde. Click on the posts with all the red to see who gave it red - those are the guys who are still angry they bought HD. I gave it green and I have a nasty HD Player. But... I also have two Blu Rays. I make the cliff dive one week before HD started its death march. I have to admit Blu Ray is better. HD reminded me of the original DVD format too much. One smudge, scratch, etc, and freeze, pixelate, etc. So far (fingers crossed) I have played MANY BB Rental disks and not one glitch which is impressive. |

I didn't see this specifically pointed out. On the site, they say that they're taking The Departed Special edition, but as near as I can tell, there was only 1 version released for hddvd, which was the combo dvd version. Is this what they're talking about, or does someone know of another version? |

They say if you send in the cover art for the 3 movies you will indeed receive the Ultimate Matrix Collection on Blu. Check out post #46 in this thread, Matrix trade up info |

So let me get this right, we return only the cover art and keep the actual disk? Seems like a good deal to me. Some of the HD-DVDs are combo disks such as Happy Feet. I can let my kids play with those on their tv and keep the Blu-Ray for the main theater |

Thanks OP. My Toshiba HA-A2 HD-DVD player died a while back and was outside the one year warranty period. Toshiba wanted $90 to ship me a refurbished unit which was just a bit less than I paid for it during the initial fire sale. I'm glad to be getting my Planet Earth HD fix again. |

I get we just send back the cover art for normal movies. But what happens with box sets (ie, Ultimate Matrix and Planet Earth respectively)? |

On the Oceans box set, I just have to return the box cover. They have similar steps on the other box sets. This is a great deal. For those of you complaining, what have you lost? You bought HD, you still have HD. WB is offering to give you the Blu-Ray too. I am replacing eleven discs for $64. With this side-grade program I will still have a large number of my hi-def movies on Blu-Ray to play on my PS/3, or whatever other Blu-Ray player I am using at that time. This will be a much better option than buying extra HD-DVD players to store until my current player dies. Now if only the other studios would offer us a deal like this I'd be set! There are a lot of Blu-Ray drives for your PC that will also play HD-DVDs, so I won't worry about needing an extra HD-DVD player. |

Questions & Answers Q: Can I upgrade my HD-DVD to a different movie on Blu-ray? A: You may only upgrade to the same movie on Blu-ray. For example, assume you own Blood Diamond on HD-DVD. You may only upgrade to Blood Diamond on Blu-ray. Q: How many HD-DVDs may be upgraded? A: You may upgrade up to 25 different movies per household. Also, there is a limit of 1 copy per movie. Q: After I complete the online order, what's next? A: You send your HD-DVD cover art sleeves to our processing center. We will match your cover art to your order, and then ship your new Blu-ray discs. For some box sets, special instructions will be listed on the page where you select your HD-DVDs. Q: What is a cover art sleeve? A: The cover art sleeve is the insert that serves as the front and back cover of your HD-DVD. This must be intact and include the UPC. Q: How do I remove the cover art from the case? A: The paper cover art sleeve should be easy to remove when the case is open. If you fully open the case, the cover art should nearly fall out. Q: What if my HD-DVD is not listed on your website? A: We've included as many Warner Bros. HD-DVDs as possible. In some cases, the movie has not yet been released on Blu-ray and, therefore, is not eligible for the Red2Blu program. Q: What is the status of my order? A: If you use the prepaid postage label that comes with your confirmation email, we will notify you when your cover art arrives at our processing center. We will also send you an email when your new Blu-ray discs ship. You will be able to track the Blu-ray discs through the UPS tracking system. Q: Are international customers eligible for the Red2Blu program? A: Unfortunately at this time the program only ships to the Continental US, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. Q: Is Red2Blu.com a stand-alone company? A: Red2Blu is brought to you by WBShop.com, the Official Online Store of Warner Bros. Studios. Q: How can I get more information about the Blu-ray movies on Red2Blu.com? A: WBShop.com has information on Warner Bros. Blu-ray discs. Usually, Blu-ray and HD-DVD have the same Main Feature content. In some cases, Special Features may differ. Q: How long will it take process my order? A: It usually takes 4-5 weeks to complete the entire transaction. We will provide you email updates during this time so you know the status of your order. Q: How much is shipping and handling? A: Flat fee shipping and handling is $6.95 on your entire order shipped within the Continental US. The fee is $8.95 in Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. Q: My envelope is too small for the prepaid postage label. Can I mail the cover art in a smaller envelope without the prepaid label? A: Yes, you can mail the cover art without the label. However, the label includes a barcode that identifies your order. If you choose to not use the label, please include it inside your envelope. Please send to: ATTN: Returns 1101 Highview Drive Webberville, MI 48892 |

There are a lot of Blu-Ray drives for your PC that will also play HD-DVDs, so I won't worry about needing an extra HD-DVD player. Wrong. Only LG made combo HD-DVD/Blu-ray drives and they stopped making them awhile ago. What's available now is old stock. Furthermore, HD-DVD support is drying up among Hidef player programs. Cyberlink, creators of PowerDVD, dropped support for HD-DVD after PowerDVD 7. PowerDVD 8 didn't support it but you could hack it back in using bits and pieces from a leaked PowerDVD 8 beta done before Cyberlink dropped support. But the last release of PowerDVD 8 broke the hack. And PowerDVD 9 (the latest version) has no way to add HD-DVD support at all. Of the other two Hidef players, Arcsoft Total Media Theater still supports HD-DVD but their newest version (TMT 3) broke audio support for some configurations and judging from Arcsoft's posts on their own website they don't seem to be too enthused about fixing it or any other problems that may arise with HD-DVD support. The other Hidef player is Corel's WinDVD 9 and they haven't said one thing or the other about continuing HD-DVD support |

Although Sam's Club has a modest display of blu-ray titles (and I suppose the neighboring Costco does as well) I get the distinct idea that HD and bluray both lost, one just sooner than the other. About a quarter of my spam from Amazon.com is trying to get me to buy bluray disks. |
