Please. i think my friends are a good snapshot of if Blu-ray is going to last. Even my buddy who doesn't have a computer in his house is about to buy a Blu-ray player.

But thanks for derailing the thread into a "Blu-ray is the next betamax" argument.

I think in general this is a great idea. They should expand it to every hd title they offered. Maybe they will do this. Lets face it the Blue ray genre issnt exactly hot stuff especially in a crummy economy. The entire business would have been different if tehre was one single format at the start. Big companies with huge egos cost themselves a ton of money. Same thing with satellite radio. I have a number of those disks and even though I still have the HDDVD player I will upgrade a number to Blueray as 5.00 isnt bad. Blue ray disks at retail have also been dropping on the standard titles. The tipping point will be selling the bluerays at no more than 10% higher than the standard disks or at the same price. That might have to be the marketing strategy.

I might trade in the Harry Potter set to keep it all on one format.

I threw away the paper thing that was loosely glued to my Matrix box set. Who knew that would be important.

As someone pointed out earlier, you get to keep the HD DVD discs and box, just not the jacket insert. Concerning the Matrix Box Set, I called Warner Online after I placed my order and realized my Matrix Box Set was missing the back page they wanted. The CSR said that many people called in and it was a problem for most people. They are working on a resolution and told me to call back Monday to either find out what they decided or they can remove that from the order.

I'm also in the same situation with the Matrix boxset. I called them this morning and was told I'm out of luck. They were advised yesterday afternoon that the paper is absolutely necessary. I asked if I could simply send the covers for the four discs and was told that's not acceptable.

Blu-Ray is selling just fine, especially considering that only 30-40% of US households have even one HDTV. As prices for HDTVs and Blu-Ray players drop, the market will keep expanding.

About a quarter of my spam from Amazon.com is trying to get me to buy bluray disks.
I'm pretty sure Amazon doesn't send out spam. If you're receiving emails from them, it's because you agreed to receive them. Besides that, Amazon doesn't send out emails to people for things they don't think will interest them. There's currently 4 Blu-Ray tiles in Amazon's list of top 20 video bestsellers:

This was posted yesterday in the bluray forum: Quote Link

The rep I spoke with on the phone said they've been asked about this all day. The answer that she was given via official memo is that: 1. Both the Matrix Trilogy and Ultimate Collection qualify for the upgrade to the Blu Ultimate Collection. They simply don't have a link for the vanilla Trilogy, so in the mean time use the UC link when ordering. 2. If you no longer have the paper with the UPC code on it, send the three labels for the movies themselves as they do have proper UPC codes and will work just fine.

Yes, I saw that and received different information from their customer service. So basically, nobody seems to know what the real deal is.

I also realized that my Planet Earth HD DVD is the BBC version. Now I'm questioning whether they will take this.

I'm pretty sure that is the one they show on the site. This version was distributed by WB in the USA (or something like that). I'm sending in my cover art today for this one so they better take it.

I'm in the same boat...and I'm usually such a pack rat when it comes to these types of things. When it fell off so easily I was just like...meh, I guess I don't need it. Thing is, if they accepted just the covers, then people would be able to have someone else order the ultimate collection with their paper sheet if they had it too...leaving the potential to easily get 2 sets darn cheap when only 1 HD-DVD collection was owned.

I nearly maxed out this deal. Anyone know how reliable inetvideo is? Are they going to turn around and let me know the 15 titles I ordered are not oos and cancel my order? My success will be largely dependent on them actually shipping.

I already went ahead and paid WB for the trade assuming that inet and eBay will come through.

Went for (some I bought from inetvideo some from eBay):
Clockwork Orange, A: Special Edition
Eyes Wide Shut: Special Edition
Blue Planet (IMAX)
Planet Earth: The Complete Collection (Count as 2)
Searchers, The
Ultimate Matrix Collection, The (Count as 3)
V for Vendetta
300
Blade Runner: Complete Collector's Edition (count as 3)
Blazing Saddles
Casablanca, Ultimate Collector's Edition
Full Metal Jacket: Deluxe Edition
Harry Potter 1-5 Limited Edition Giftset (Count as 3)
Troy Director's Cut
Last Samurai, The
Alexander Revisited: (Unrated) Final Cut, The
Sopranos, The: Season 6 Part 2 (Count as 2)
Happy Feet
Battle of the Bulge
Deliverance
Ocean's Eleven (2001), Twelve & Thirteen Giftset(Count as 2)
Enter the Dragon

Cost for WB BR Trade In $160
Cost of eBay movies: $134
Cost for InetVid: $154

Total number of disks: 31
(Note: for box sets, for simplicity, I counted them as 2 or 3 depending on if WB charged $10 or $15)
Average cost per disk (BLU-RAY and HD_DVD):
$14.50 including shipping and inclusive of live CashBack

I'm pretty happy with the deal.

Good luck with that. I hope you realize you'll be getting Canadian copies from inet, which ARE NOT eligible for the WB promotion. Good luck with that.

Exactly where did you get that bit of information from?

All is says on the website is:

Q: Are international customers eligible for the Red2Blu program?
A: Unfortunately at this time the program only ships to the Continental US, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.

Which only refers to the shipping destination, not the origin country of the discs.

I am not so sure how 0wn3d those HD-DVD disk thread crappers are since 99% of these WB coversion titles being offered are $14.99 or less on Blu-Ray anyway? Many sell for under $10ea with the frequent B1G1 on Amazon. By the time you pay the $4.95 per title + $6.95+ S&H you might as well just have purchased the Blu-Ray titles without the trade-in offer. Perhaps WB just realized an excellent opportunity to take advantage of a group of naive comsumers with an already proven track record of making poor purchasing decisions.

Well considering you are WRONG. 99% of them are not 14.99 or less...did you even LOOK before posting? Just for instance I went through my collection (that by the way I probably paid around $6/HD DVD movie...135 of them)and I came up with 22 "movies" I would exchange (actually $4.95 charges (box sets)It was actually 18 movies counting box sets as 1).....the average price on Amazon for them??? $22.23!...my, my that is quite a bit away from $14.99.

Oh and when exactly was the last B1G1 Blu Ray deal on Amazon???? A few years ago? What could you get, maybe those $14.99 movies you were talking about? They did not put ALL Blu Ray on sale like that....it was always a poor selection, maybe 2 or 3 "good" movies and some fillers Also NONE of those sales have been B1G1 they have been B2G1, so fail again.

This is a good deal as I am getting three box sets, HP, Matrix and Planet Earth which comes out to only $34.65 on the WB exchange...compared to $213.5 on Amazon.

Anyways the total cost on Amazon? $422.50....the WB program??? $115.85...Oh that includes the $6.95 SH&H "deal killer" you were talking about.

Plus I get to KEEP my HD DVDs. HOT DEAL, sorry you don't have anything to add except make believe scenarios where they are offering most Blu Ray for B1G1...which the good box sets were NOT included...nor were most good movies, they were always 30-40 movies several years old usually.

By the way I checked the current B2B1 deal on Amazon...prices are a little higher and I found exactly 8 of the movies on this deal that I have....8...no box sets... a few good ones though 300, I am Legend...even if I put a random 9th movie in there(that isn't on the WB list that I own) it STILL comes out to $16 per movie...still way short of your claim.

99% are $14.99 or LESS on Amazon...I guess you had a happy 420 day huh?

Thanks OP, great find...way to go WB also.

Whoa there buddy...I think you need to relax a bit.

Great find OP, gonna trade in 4 of my old HD-DVDs.

Obviously I didn't realize the Canadian aspect. But thank you shinglething for pointing it out so gently.

I've flow by the seat of my pants on deals before. Sometimes i win sometimes I lose.

Will be interesting to see if it works. Guess if they reject them I am stuck with only the HD-DVD disks. I'm betting WB will return my $5.

Anyone know if a Canadian DVD has a different upc? on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca the ASIN is the same for planet earth, but they don't list the code. I'm most concerned with Planet Earth and Soppranos wich are the box sets I got of inet.

alert mods

I would do a search on the UPC and the ISBN number on the discs themselves.

alert mods

Yes, the UPC for Canadian versions and US versions are different. Canadian ones should also have French titles on the cover (at least the ones I do have them). Also I called the help line for the red2blu and 2 different reps confirmed that Canadian versions of the movies are NOT eligible.

And I just called and the rep I spoke with confirmed that the Canadian HD DVDs ARE elligible so long as the new discs were being shipped to an address in the US.
