You can get away with this if you have a small lawn (actually this would be perfect), but if you have a medium sized lawn or larger, I'd highly recommend against this. I have a similar B&D electric mower and it was such a PITA! After one season, I gave up and went back to gas mower. With electric, it takes twice as long and tackling with the electric cord is a big hassle. Not only that, it is under-powered! If the grass is even slightly wet from morning dew, it will struggle and leave behind chunks of grass. You'll have to end up passing through the areas several times to pick up the remains. Even if the lawn is dry, the blades stall constantly if the grass growth is thick and dense.
Personally, I think a self-propelled gas mower gets the job done quicker and more efficiently... but, if you have time and patience, you can still manage with an electric through.
I have the a similar model, the MM675. I do not know the difference off hand, but most of the stats are similar.
My two cents is that I'm pretty happy with it. Yes I have a small yard and I would not recomend this for a large yard (medium would be questionable).
Yes, the cord is a hassle at first but after subsequent mowings I fell into a system. Now the cord is just part of the process and it doesn't bother me a bit.
Yes, if I let the grass get too tall and/or if I mow when it's wet, the mower bogs down. I try not to let it get too tall, and I try to avoid mowing when its wet. Just last week I had to mow with the grass too tall and it was wet We had a brief break in the spring storms and with more coming, I wanted to get a mowing in before the grass got even taller. But I overcame by only cutting half the grass in each pass. You know, instead of moving the mower 18" for the next pass I only moved over 9 or 10". I'm sure that with a good gas mower that would not have been as much of a problem.
BUT, my mower is much quieter than gas. I don't have to change the oil or air filter. I'll never need a spark plug. I don't have to buy gas. And when it comes time to sharpen the blades, I don't have to drain the fluids to turn the mower over. And of course I don't have a pull string to start the mower
Read the reviews on Amazon. There is a lot of good info there.
Oh, and as far as longevity, this is my second season. So I don't really know how long it will last. So far so good.

Damn shame about that cord. Hope you gave the woman a good whoopin. These darn woman gotta learn. I make mine mow with hedge shears now after a similar incident, it only takes her 6 or so hours for the couple acres.

... from the sounds of it, I won't be surprised if you keep your woman on equine feeds, and throw hourly treats at her if she manages to go error free while mowing
I used to have a yellow Sunbeam electric mower back in the 80's. That thing would mow through anything. I had a huge lawn to deal with, yet it was no problem. It lasted for years, until the frame rusted too much to be used any more. I would buy one again in an instant.
Later, we had an electric MTD. Not in the same class at all.
