Tell that to all the happy owners of Panasonic 720p 50" tv's. Sure, at 50" you'll be able to tell it's not as clear as 1080p, but it's still going to look "HD" enough for most. If you sit 8-10 feet away, you'll be fine. Anything closer, you're better off with a smaller screen to begin with. Exactly. I am a very happy owner of a 50" 720p Panasonic. The tv is 14 feet from the couch, and it looks great. |

Exactly. I am a very happy owner of a 50" 720p Panasonic. The tv is 14 feet from the couch, and it looks great. And, generally speaking, motion resolution is more important than 720p vs 1080, anyway. Panasonic has been great for years in this department, and this year they are finally at 1080p full motion resolution (moving vs static picture res). |

I have seen this TV twice and think it is a great deal and compares favorably to the 50" Panasonic 720P and costs $200 less. The last time I looked I saw it, the Panasonic 50" in 720p and 1080p and there was no winner (they all won fist prize). I am a huge Panasonic fan, but given the price, I would buy this TV in a second if I needed it. The swivel base is a bonus, though I would not be pushing a 50" TV around! |

Guys the 720p is fine. I got 50 vizio plasma 720p set 2 years ago for 875. The picture is awesome. Only way to get an actual 1080p signal is threw a br player. No satelitte or cable provider offers 1080p, it is way too much bandwidth. Save your extra cash and get the 720 p. |

Just bought the 50pq30 for the 'rents last weekend at Sears for $845 and it looks damn good. Compared to my Panny 1080, its not quite as crisp, but its plenty bright, the colors are sharp and unless you're watching bluray, I honestly can't tell much of a difference unless I'm really trying to fault it. If you have a Costco membership, this is a great deal (assuming that this is the sams/costco version of that tv of course) |

It's weird because it shows up sometimes when you go to Sears online and other times it doesn't. |

The color of this baby is very good. I actually compared this one with other 1080p tvs around it, the color of this one is much better. Too bad it is a 720p, but I guess that is why its that cheap. |

This was a complete deal for me. Our seating is 10' from where the TV mounts to the wall. I had purchased the recent Sceptre deal (46" with 1080p) for $833 (with tax and shipping) about 45 days ago. The picture quality on that thing was untollerable - I went out to forums, I made adjustments... nada. Nothing ever looked right - and if it did on regular TV, moving to a DVD source made the colors look like crap again. The other failure for me? My Harmony remote never could control the input selections on the TV correctly. That and the fact I had two adjacent burned out pixels on the Sceptre made me hate the thing. I traded that bad boy in for this steal of a deal. 720p with actual blacks? SUHWEET! at 10' distance it really makes little difference - to me the details are all found in the deeper contrast which can be achieved with this TV. With less than one hour adjusting levels, EVERYTHING looks better than the Sceptre!! The LG auto light sensing feature for power consumption is very nice. Diming the display in a darker room at night so I do not feel like I am being blinded. I had to pay a whopping $23 more from my original purchase and I will not look back. I went last Sat to buy this and in only a few days it had already sold out from one Costco in town. I had to drive to another one but it was well worth it. I have nothing but praise for this set. The Harmony remote works, the colors are beautiful, the sound from the internal speakers is better and there are no burnt pixels. I still have a smaller LCD that is in our bedroom - and I am not here to LCD bash but compared to that blasted Sceptre, I am really liking the features and picture quality of the LG. |

Hey Gerbo, I've got this set too. I've played with the settings a lot and ordered the blu-ray version of DVE to fine tune the colors. In the mean time, I have settled on: Mode: Standard Contrast: 66 Brightness: 42 Sharpness: 20 Color: 45 Tint: 0 Advanced: Color Temp: Medium All enhancements: Off I'm not going to pretend these settings are the final word in accuracy, but I've found them pleasing with most content. I played around with the Expert modes a lot but without glasses or other calibration tools you can drive yourself insane messing with each color channel. As for the sound, turn off the ClearVoice and AutoVolume, then you can turn it on. I don't think it sounds very good, but if you do more power to you. As far as reflections go, they really are noticeable on this set. I was aware of it coming in, but still - wow. I bought heavier curtains and added fabric lampshades to the floor lamps - solved 95% of it. I plan to put up some ceiling-firing sconces on either side of the set for TV watching in a not-totally-dark room without glare. Again, it's only in the black areas - it's a non-issue with bright material. Good luck with the set - it's too big for me to pack up and bring back, so I'm going to do my best to make it work! I've got 82 days to go myself. |

I just got this from costco and it is great, they had the panasonic the LG and the samsung right next to each other and I could not see any reason for me to spend 2 to 3 hundred dollars more on the other two. I am very happy with my purchase. |

A lot of people make this argument that you're too close to a big TV - but in reality, a finer resolution such as 1080p is designed to allow you to sit closer by making pixels smaller and providing a finer sample spacing. And I don't know about you, but from a practical stance when I play XBOX 360 I have a more difficult time reading certain text on a 720p television when it shows up sharp and clean on a 1080p television. So there -is- very much merit to a 1080p resolution over 720p. That said, this is a good deal on a 720p big television, and if your intended use and pocketbook merit this, then you've got a good bargain here. |
