Thanks for the eBay tip. I have 4 extra IDE Hard-drives i have lying around. I can use my power supply rather then these bulky external in my new I7 920 system that only has 1 IDE port on the motherboard.

Bought This 2 weeks ago under $10.00 free shipping Now is $10.73 also free shipping
This is a great item to have in your toolbox, but not for $15. I paid $7.50 a while back and felt it was worth it. FYI, You can power laptop drives from the USB interface, but CDROM and IDE HD's REQUIRE the power adapter.

Got a similar devices long time ago. Nice tool to have but do not expect great quality. I would not rely on this unit for regular use but it is good one for once in while hard disk access.

Use this in an emergency or for troubleshooting a drive.

How does that convert SATA to USB? From the photos, it seems they only have an IDE-to-USB cable and a standard SATA cable.

The adaptor has a SATA socket built on it.

What's the point of it? You're still limited to USB 2.0 transfer rate and you're wasting a SATA or eSATA port. Why not just take the drive outta the enclosure and install in pc if you want... though I guess this sorta makes sense (in a hodge podge way) if you have no more USB ports available or have an IDE external with no usb/ide available and wanna serial ATA connection.

I purchased one (from the original link - d'oh!) so that I can use it to temporarily connect drives, be they IDE or SATA, to my PC..not to use as a permanent storage solution. More for data recovery/"quick" duplication (yeah, I know...USB).

Agree. I bought 2 of those kits from iTrimming.com for $8.99 each w/FS a couple weeks ago. Glad I bought this kit for that price. Kit works very well -- have been able to take SATA or PATA HD or CD-RW and use them as an external USB 2.0 drive. No need for enclosure or anything. Wouldn't pay $15 for it. But for $11 shipped or less its an OK to good deal.
. Well, mine does not work. Drive powers and spins but no transfer. Tried on two computers with three HDs - both PATA and SATA. Ordered the Apricorn adapter from D ell. (Thread here.) .
I ran into the same type problem when I used mine -- bought from another source. I tried the different HD jumper settings & it finally worked. The Cable Select (CS) setting is the one that works I believe (haven't used my calbes in a few weeks). Try it & see if that works.
I tried cable select, which now lets me see the drives in Disk Management, but won't supply letters to them, so I can't access them. Any ideas what I can do?

Hey guys,
I just bought this particular adapter from itrimming.
I'm experiencing random corrupted files. I notice that when I transfer a large amount of files and perform a binary compare, invariably a few of the files fail the comparison.
I'm wondering if anyone else that owns the itrimming's adapter has a similar experience. I'd like to narrow it down to whether it's just my particular adapter, or they're all like that.
