BTW, what is the protocol for posting Staples clearance items? The other day, I posted this thread and got a bunch of red. I just want to know how to do things best in the future:
The thread in question.

Some managers prefer to have easier working relationships with their staff; some are just kind-hearted.

i think the reason has something to do with the way clearance prices work, i.e. .90 is just starting, and .50 is final? someone else would know better.

tried at my local Staples; got nothing, though.

Prices ending in .99 are regularly priced items. Items ending in .98 are sale price items. Items with .90 are clearance items and items in .50 are final clearance items.

I am a Staples employee and my manager said that once they hit a price ending in .50, they don't reduce any further. If they aren't sold, they become $.01 and we aren't allowed to sell them.

Your manager is full of BS. They will drop further with .50 price.

I agree with superstaronebay. I've been shopping at Staples ever since the dot com boom when they had stackable $20 off $50 coupons that could be stacked for free items. I've always seen prices with xx.50 reduced multiple times.

I don't think it is a good way to maintain good relationships. If the sales isn't good enough, the store will be shut down and every one would have to go home, silly.

And as an example, the IDE drive mentioned at the start of this thread has been $25.50, then $23.50, then $15.50, and now $4.50...
