Not as good as the $120 deal from a few weeks ago, but the best price I can find at present.

6/2 UPDATE- Looks like the price has dropped to $119.99 again. Get 'em while they're hot!

You beat me to it. Was about to post this deal.

Good deal.

true, but just as often they will not depending on the rest of your rig. i'd say most people push'm somewhere between 3.7-4.0.

the first e8400 i got, when they first came out, i'm running at 3.8GHz at a cool 19/20C on idle. the more recent one i got, the last time they were on sale at microcenter, i'm running at 4.0GHz but at 39/40C on idle. same case, +2 more fans even. go figure.

4.0GHz AND beyond

do you live in a fridge or something? 19c is about 65f. haha.

Anyhow, I have had mine a tad past 4.0ghz stable, but needing more voltage thus hotter. I eventually settled on an easy 3.6ghz UNDERVOLTED 24/7 overclock with mine. I simply upped the fsb to 400mhz which also runs it 1:1 with DDR2-800, then started backing the voltage down till unstable then back up a couple notches. Did the same with the RAM as well...so end result was 3.6ghz C2D running 1:1 with 4-4-4-12 DDR2-800, both using only enough juice to run stable, running cool and quiet under a large heatsink where it runs passive most the time (fan doesnt kick on untill it's been at 100% load for a couple mins, and even then its a low speed fan) with only a couple nearly silent low speed case fans moving air through the enclosure. Those are a great line of processors for a great balance of oc'd performance and still managing a silent system.

I got mine @ 4.0GHZ Good chip.

i got mine 8400 few weeks ago for $119 without rebate at microcenter.
$140 is their standard price now

Unfortunately, my nearest Microcenter is an hour away. I hate missing out on these MC deals.

Forget the idle core temp readings. The thermal sensors are only calibrated to display the correct temperature at / near TJmax.
It's generally accepted that the error in temp values get larger the further away you are from that and DO NOT monkey with the TJmax value to get more correct looking idle temps.
You gotta ask yourself - who knows more about Intel's CPUs - their engineers or random people on the net

The temp is accurate to +/-3C over the entire operating range. Idle current (aka leakage) can vary substantually from part to part, based on a bell curve.

Parts are sorted and binned, to not exceed the TDP at max temp. However any particular part might consume far less.

I'm running mine stable at 4104.4 MHZ
