I am not sure about the Sears cards promotions, I will update my post tonight or tomorrow morning with the additional Sears card promotions. Even without any additional % off, it is still a HOT HOT HOT deal. Go ahead and try to find one cheaper. In fact, I'll do it for you.

At least he put the word "Television" in the title. Too many people here post "XTCH623834 On Sale". Then you click on the subject to see what it is but even the message doesn't say what the item is so you have to take the link to find out it is a diaper bag.

Please don't make this a plasma vs LCD thread, Panasonic vs Samsung thread, or any vs thread please.
Putting the word plasma in the title is nice for those of us with deal/topic alerts
And WOW, 14% back using FW & your Sears card - friggin' slick...er, I mean phAT! Though for me that's just twice the sales tax, so it's about 7% back and tax free...but still, $1031 + (tax on 1199) is niiiice. Or maybe on the 14th B1NG will have 8%-12% Cash Back for Sears.

How do you get 14% back from FW with your Sears card? I only see the double Cash Back promotion of 4% with Sears.

also, forgot to add free shipping and haul away on this tv as well
I'm planning to buy a new TV soon and I'm a little confused. How does a plasma TV at this price range compare to, say a $2.5K pioneer, or a closed to $2k Panasonic/Samsung plasma? Then how does it compare to a $1.5k LCD? What about a $2k-$2.5k LCD?

just curious, i don't have a Sears card, but i was looking online and couldn't find anything about it. you say with a Sears card you can either get 10% off or 3 years no interest. i've looked online and can't find any information on that, not even on Sears' online information about the card. is that just standard for any purchase made with your card at Sears?

With all due respect that doesn't really help at all.
I understand the differences between plasma and LCD, but right now there are so many classes for each type of panels. We have a 1080p plasma like this one that's just over a grand, to newer models that are between 1.5k-2k, all the way to high end models that cost over 3k. On the other hand we also have 1080p 120hz and 240hz LCD's that are priced the same way. Of course while reading the paper specs, the newer models always have the fancy tech terms and perks, but no one really bothered to compare in detail how much difference they really make and how do they compared to a competitor in the same price range.
So my question again:

I would suggest that you go to AVS forum and ask that question over there. The OP gave you the details; its your job to do the research.

Really the only way to do find out is to go to a store and look at them.
I have people all the time come to my work and tell me they cant tell the difference between SD and HD, others see the grain from 20 feet away. All this is subjective, and the only way to truly find out what works for you is to go and see. Only you can say how they compare, its your money.
I know someone asked not to turn this into a plasma versus LCD thread but I'm going to throw in my 2 cents. Most experts agree that plasmas give you better picture for the money. Just read the reviews on www.cnet.com,www.hdguru.com and www.avsforum.com and you'll see that most of the experts agree that plasmas are better than LCDs. The ONLY LCDs that come close to the picture quality of plasmas are LCDs with LED backlighting and they are very expensive compared to plasmas. Plus the viewing angles on LCDs are terrible compared to plasmas. The specs of LCDs may say 178 degree viewing angles but as you move off center, the picture starts to wash out. This is not the case with plasmas. That's one of the reasons why plasmas make a better living room TV since people sitting at any angle with have the same picture quality. Also, if you're going to watch a lot of action movies or sports, plasmas are better at displaying fast motion video than LCDs.
Here is a link to CNET's top rated 50 to 53 inch HDTVs. You'll notice that 9 of the 12 models are plasmas and 2 of the 3 LCDs are over $2K. The Panasonic model that's being discussed in this thread is number 7 on the list and for $1200 with a 10% rebate, that's a great deal. http://reviews.cnet.com/best-44-54-inch-hdtvs/?tag=rb_content;co...

Wow thank you SamNK, that's exactly the information I'm looking for. I didn't really mean to turn this thread into a comparison of technology either. I just want to have a rough idea on where this particular model sits among all the competitors priced at about the same or higher. There are simply too many models out there these days. Just the same brand at same size can have 20 or more models. I miss the old days when you shopped for a 34" Sony TV, you go to the store and just look at that 34" Sony TV, maybe a couple of other models max. So much easier.

If I don't have a Sears card, can I apply for one at time of purchase?

TIA
Yes, I did that 2 years ago when I bought my Panasonic plasma from Sears but I'm not sure if you can get instant approval anytime including evenings. I would call to confirm.

TIA Yes you can, and you will get 6 months no interest AND 10% off. Just apply for the Sears Charge Plus because they have 3 cards to chose from. You get a bigger limit on the charge plus.

Bing gives a range of CashBack for of 2% to 8% for Sears.
And when I search for this TV on Bing.com shopping page, the TV is listed for a bunch of stores with Cash Back but next to Sears entry in the price list it says 2% Cash Back. Here's a link to the price but I'm not sure if the link will work.
