As a previous NFL Sunday Ticket subscriber, I called Direct TV with full intention to cancel my pending renewal for the NFL Sunday Ticket. I was immediately offered $20 off a month ($24.95) for the 6 month payment plan, including the Superfan. I never attempted to negotiate or request to speak with customer retention. They kept their hooks in me and I accepted their offer.

YMMV!

Cool ! Did you call the retention line ? Or just the regular 800 # ?

Oh, NFL Sunday Ticket. I thought they were giving away Lions tickets again

Season, Sunday, I was close! Thanks for the heads up, I edited the title.....

I just got off the phone with them. They did not give me 20 bucks off per month, but they did give me 10 off per month and free superfan. This will make it 209 total. Repped!

They called my bluff and canceled the auto renew. I will just have to manually renew.

Confirmed...I just called and they gave me $120 off and free superfan. Guy said it was because I was a long time directv customer and had the sunday ticket for many years.

Also worked for me without any hassle. +1

What did you say you wanted to do when you got to voice prompt?

Saying "cancel" will get you to customer retention immediately - they're the ones who have the real power to deal.

thanks will try this tonite. Also superfan gives you the games in HD, now that the HD conversion is here isnt superfan useless?

It's not HD conversion, it's a conversion from broadcasting in analog signal to digital signal.

Still, this package is such a rip since HD is becoming a standard in broadcasting.

worked great... thx op!

dang...called and the guy only offered $60 off and still had to pay for SF.

Got the 34.99 x 6 mo, or $209 with now problem. ST + SF! Thansk!

Quick question to all of those that have tried and been successful / failed before I give this a go: how long have you had DTV / Sunday Ticket?

I'm wondering if their offers are tied to your years of being a customer?

got NFL Sunday Ticket for free last year with this special:

Get every NFL game, every Sunday - plus our best TV package FREE. Order NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ now for just $74.99 a month for 4 months and get over 265 channels, including every premium movie channel, FREE for 4 months. Hurry! this offer ends November 1.

Although it was only for new subscriber, DTV gave it to me since I've been with them almost 10 years.

Thanks OP - just did this and got the $20/month off and free SuperFan. Note that they offered my free SuperFan first, I said no. Then they offered $10/month, I said no. Then she finally offered the $20/month off.

I know this isn't really relevant, but I love that we're clammering over something that is $150+. My friend that lives in Panama gets the sunday ticket for like $20 total. We're suckers here in the US.....myself included.

I wish they would let you just purchase the Supercast online thing to watch the games on your computer. I'd happily pay near the NFL package price as long as the video quality is good. You can always just hook a laptop to your big screen and watch it that way. It would still be cheaper than going to a sports bar every sunday.

I'm sure Direct Tv will never give up the NFL though as it's really the only thing they have going for them as far as attracting mass customers.

smileydave said: I'm wondering if their offers are tied to your years of being a customer?

As I mentioned above, yes.

Directv has a system where they measure your years as a customer, which packages you've subscribed to, which sports and other products you've owned, how many PPV movies you buy, how many credits or promos you've been given, how timely you are about paying your bill and the CSR can adjust your rating based on how understanding you are about problems or how much of a PITA you are when you call.

I think its called a 'hearts' system and customers get between 0 and 5 hearts which shows on the CSRs display the minute they pick up the phone.

Five heart customers will get the best deals. Customers with less than 3 hearts or who are currently receiving a promotion or credit probably wont get anything at all.

Thank you to the OP!!

Confirmed....I just got off the phone with DTV...took a little work.
They first just offered Superfan for free...then the said $20 off for 6 months and pay the $99 for Superfan.
I told him I would keep Sunday Ticket if he could do the $20 off for 6 months PLUS the free Superfan.
Put me on hold...loyal customer...blah, blah, blah...came back and said the would do the Superfan for free PLUS $10/month for 12 months.

Thank you again to the OP!!

If I could go back to the days where I was stealing it that would be great too.

Just got shot down twice. Said the auto renew is the best available pricing.....I tried "Customer Serive" and "Cancel service" departments. Who are you guys talking to? Are you saying you are calling to cancel?

confirmed... $20 off for 6 months plus free superfan.

Thanks OP!

Well, it was a battle, but got free SF, $20 off/month for six months, and free HD pack for a year.

mddolloff said: My friend that lives in Panama gets the sunday ticket for like $20 total.

Isn't that like a year's salary over there?

Meh, got the SF for free OR $10 off for 6 months. I guess I am not as good a customer as I thought! I'll take it, DTV had been GREAT to me over the years.

I have been a customer for only a little over a year and had NFL Ticket last year. The guy started by offering me the Superfan for free and then I asked if there is anything else he could do. He then came back with 1 month savings. I had in my mind that if he gave me $10 off per month I would take it and not push my luck. At this point I told him a friend of mine got $10 off per month and he said hold on to look in the computer to see if there are any other promotions. It probably took him about a 2 or 3 minutes and he says, "I found another promotion that is actually better. I can save you $20 per month." I was like holy****. I then confirmed that the Superfan will still be included and he said yet and he put it in for thr $24.99 per month for 6 months with the Superfan included.

Good Luck to all.

Which number did you call?

Op posted it on page 1

Just called and I got shot down, been a customer for 10yrs. I have to say that I am on a promotion for free showtime, maybe that is why. I think I will cancel anyway, times are hard and 200+ for Sunday ticket is just too much now.

SHADYnky ... try craigslist .. offer to pay most of somebodys sunday ticket and you get the log in info to watch. Games over the net are good quality. We had a free weekend the was posted here last year. The website goofed up and let you sign up with any name and password. SWEET.

No go fo me. I have the total choice package they no longer offer that has been grandfathered in.
Rep said those getting $20 off per month ($24.99) for 6 months are newer customers that are paying higher for their monthly packages.
Best they said they could do for me was $44.99 X 6 months, free Superfan. So maybe a reason some are not successful is because of their packages.
Rep did offer me free Showtime for 6 months even if I didn't renew (which I of course, said yes).

I did what Conrua said last year as well, I am hopefull to skeeze some type of deal this year as well...

I have been a customer since last september. I tried 3 different times but they said I wasnt eligible for the $20 off for 6 months and free superfan. I yelled, I fought..told them a friend of mine with the same level of eligibility was able to get the offer. After approx 45min the best she could do was $10 off for 12 months and free HD which is a $10 dollar a month value. I wanted free superfan which is 16.99 per month along with the $44.95 Sunday Ticket but could not get it. I tried. I will try again in a few weeks. Any suggestions?
Thanks OP

Just called back, spoke with someone else and told them the only reason I stay with Direct TV is because of Sunday ticket and someone my wife works with told her about U-Verse and that they are paying new customers $250 to join ( I am not married, used that for leverage) and was just told that with current promotions they cannot take anything else off. I said its because of Sunday Ticket that I am able to have Direct TV but if I am forced by "my wife" to cancel it then we would switch to cable, WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO GIVE ME FREE SUPERFAN??

Hold on sir let me see what I can do....

Yes we can offer that to you....

Lesson learned- if at first you dont succeed, call back 5 mins later and get another CSR...!!!

good point but the point of this thread was to get sunday ticket for 149, not free superfan.

Skipping 82 Messages...

I didn't realize that Sunday Ticket wasn't HD quality and that you had to pay the extra $100 for Super Fan to get HD. I called and complained and they gave me Superfan for $50. I still balked and he then took an extra $10 off my bill for six months. So basically I'm getting Superfan for free, right? I told him, I thought it was a lot to pay for HD quality, and he said it was cheaper than going to the stadium! Duh!

All in all, he was pleasant, but I told him I'd seriously reconsider subscribing to this package next year.
