NICKel said: Anyone had success with this service? Prices are very good ......... too good (yes I am a cynical Fatwalleter)It is automatic renewal
so use a one time credit card and be prepared to cancel

I've actually ordered several magazines from this company before. They used to have similar good deals that came with the AMEX and some other credit card bill if. I got 1 year of Entertainment Weekly for $1. I used to have around 10 magazine subscriptions through this service.

They do send the postcards the next year with a ridiculous rate, and then you call this automated machine to cancel. I remember with most of the magazine subscriptions, if I press the button to cancel, it would offer me a lower rate or gifts. I think the automated machine would offer it to me for around $60, then when I said no, it would lower the price a little bit, and then when i said no again, it'd offer me that price plus one gift and keep going until i got three gifts, and then it finally offered it to me for like $2.

Sometimes, it would offer it to me for FREE.

I had my Entertainment Weekly sub through them for 5 or 6 years. I paid between free to $6/yr for it. I only canceled about two years ago because the lowest it offered me was about $20/yr. Some magazines they would give me a good deal on, some magazines they wouldn't so I would just cancel until I found another ad in the credit card bill to start this all over again.

Good to hear some positive comments on this website and its offerings over here in fatwallet. But I am still sceptical on jumping on this deal due to the bad reviews at some places, like the one below:-
Reviews

Looks like AMEX and Chase used to (or still do) promote such an offer with their credit cards. Would love to hear more good stuff about the website before jumping, the rates do look very good indeed.

PC Magazine stopped publishing its print edition last year, and Computer Shopper ceased publication earlier this year.

The "Mybonuscenter" $2 magazine deal has been floating around for literally years now. I have posted links to it periodically in prior magazine deal threads here, and have personally ordered about a dozen subscriptions from it through the years. Never had a problem. The selection of mags on the page changes from time to time, so it's worth bookmarking it and checking it again in a few months.

The postcard they send you to warn about your impending renewel often comes many weeks before the end of the subscription. In the past, if I called them as soon as I got the postcard, I found that my subscription would be terminated somewhat prematurely as a result. Now I've learned to save the postcard and call closer to the actual renewal date.

My only complaint is that they have (presumably intentionally) made the telephone cancellation process very confusing. As another poster has noted, first they try to bait you with some pitiful promo, then they throw in a poorly worded question loaded with double negatives when you turn it down: "Are you sure about not wanting to not decline the alternative offer? If you are not sure, press 2." I had to listen to the choice repeatedly to decipher their code.

I've had great luck with this company. Just use a temporary credit card number and close it once the order is complete.

Got an "unexpected error" when trying to process through at the very end. Had to click "No thanks" to at least three other offers before it got to that point. Looks like the deal is busted.

Probably one of your selections has reached it's quota. Try removing initially your least desirable one and re-trying. Work your way up from there.
What were your selections?

I just completed it myself, and got a confirmation screen at the end...seems to be working.

Many of these subscriptions are available for free if you keep an eye on Free Stuff.

The one time card# at Discover allows the same merchant to charge the one time# multiple times i.e. merchant can automatically renew the subscription using the same one time card# issued one year ago. On a side note, it is extremely difficult for discover representatives to track one time use #. You are better off using your regular discover card number.

Okay...it looks like my order went through. Got a confirmation email. Selected Time, Inc, Entrepreneur, and Kiplingers. I used a pre-paid $10 American Express gift card I received recently, and the remaining $2 balance will get used soon so even if they try to renew automatically there won't be anything for them to charge it against.

In for Time.

I wanted more but they end up in my recycling bin after ripping off then shredding my mailing address... too much work.

I like Time because a subscription also allows me to search their online archives. Very useful for research.

Thanks, OP!

I use them....after the charge goes through, just email Discover Customer Care to close the number and they do it without a call.

On another note...

If your mail does not require your name on your mailbox to get delivered, use a fake name, or "Current Resident".

1) I have read (but not confirmed) that some pricey magazines are sending people to collections. Sending "Joe Blow" to collections doesn't do anything. I actually have most of my magazines go to "Current Resident" without issue. They also don't validate your credit card against your address or name. I buy lots of subscriptions as gifts for my parents and grandparents and send them to "Mom and Dad" and "Grandma Jean" and they always show up.

2) If you start getting junk mail to your fake name or "Current Resident", you know where they got the list from.

**As mentioned many times....also use a One-Time Credit Card Number from CitiCards or Discover(Click links for info)

I used Staples prepaid rebate card last time for entertainment weekly subscription. Never received the magazine & never got charged the prepaid credit card.Don't know why???

I used my 1 time PAYPAL MasterCard with exp of 08/09 and I did get an order confirmation, but my card has not been charged 4 X 2.00 = $8 How long does it usually take to get charged? I am starting to think my order was rejected.

I also had that issue with a pre-paid AMEX card, only time I did not get the magazines. Guess they are smart enough that they know they wont be able to auto-renew....must be some way they can tell its not a real credit card.

What gift card and credit card it accept? I use National city bank gift card, but can't process successfully.

In for 5 (one order of 3, 2nd order of 2) - Thanks OP

National City cards are impossible! I won $5000 in a contest awhile back and it's been painful trying to use it up! The card always comes back saying can't process because billing addy doesn't match! My answer to you is to try another card!

PAYPAL has two types of TEMPORARY NUMBER MASTERCARDS, I may try this again with the multiuse number that can be active for any time up to 1 year.... Maybe I will have better luck with that

JamesInLV said: the remaining $2 balance will get used soon.
Order another subscription.

Anything that has anything to do with SynapseConnect, Inc., and MyBonusCenter is one of their programs, is a total ripoff.
Check out ripoffreport.com before you give these people any information and NEVER give them your credit card number!

You are in the U.S., which being a police state, will turn your data over to a collection agency that will post it to your credit report that any one looking to give you out the money will pull in the future. It will hit you were it hurts. Take time calling to cancel and keep a good records of what you are doing. That is free.

I understand your point of view and I thank you for the heads up. However, these people will attempt to charge your CC first before they continue delivering any mags for another year. In other words, no money, no magazine.
So why would they send any subscriber to collections? It has never happened to me so far (knock on wood)

I get the unexpected error. Dead?

Many Auto Renewals will continue your subscription if you DO NOT cancel and just send a paper statement to the same address. They reserve that option if you don't cancel. So then your credit history can be impacted.

Probably one of your selections has reached it's quota. Remove initially your least desirable one and give it a go. Try different combinations. Worst case scenario: order one-at-a-time.

What were your selections?

I tried Time, Inc, Business Week and Fortune. I removed Fortune and added a different one, but I have the same issue If I order separately, can I still use the same one time credit card number?

Most likely, yes.
IMHO, no real reason not to use a regular credit card.

ig77 said: If I order separately, can I still use the same one time credit card number?
No. A one-time card MEANS just that. Try it if you don't believe me.

I must be semi-retarded. I tried last night and tonight. Each time I submitted my credit card and billing information, it kicks me back to the selection page, and it says "Congratulations!"

I selected Rolling Stone, Real Simple, Parents and Sports Illustrated.

I dont get it.

Mosskeeter said: ig77 said: If I order separately, can I still use the same one time credit card number? No. A one-time card MEANS just that. Try it if you don't believe me.Yes, it SHOULD mean just that, but this is not always the case. Some of these cards can be used as many times as you wish with a single merchant, up to the preassigned limit (but the merchant normally can still post charges above the limit, and it is at the issuer's discretion whether to honor them and, of course, charge them to the cardholder's account).

good advice ty!

Skipping 10 Messages...

For those who're signing up with 1-time paypal cards - it seems as they're charging each $2 separately (TIME, US WEEKLY, etc.), so you have to choose each magazine individually on a new card.
