Jokersmoker

Nice price.

Good price, but is the Jokersmoking! Velodyne a good brand? I've never heard of them. I think I'll pass ;P

You have never heard Velodyne? You are joking right?

I am not sure about "Jokersmoking! Velodyne", but plain Velodyne is one of the best SW brands. I am pretty sure they are the best overall when it comes to perf/price.

i'm glad that i'm not the only one who got it

Nice find OP! One of the lowest prices on a sub out there.

I have this in my living room which is 15' x 20' with a two story vaulted ceiling and it shakes the house. Very nice sub for both music and movies.

good price on a low budget sub. was able to get in store pickup too.

Good sub. Will pickup one. Thanks.

budget sub?
have thigns changed in the last 5 years?
Velodyne's where the best for quite some time.

owners manual:

this size of sub works best in a smaller room.

Since Velodyne's can cost $2,500 I am assuming they meant within' the full Velodyne line this would be a "budget" sub.

This sub is regularly on sale for this price at frys. Atleast in the DFW area. I picked this sub up last summer for the same price. It's a good sub for a nice price.

They sure use a lot of exclamation points in their manual.

I got this sub during Thanksgiving time 2 yrs ago for $99 at Fry's.
The bass is very warm, not booming like others.

Can someone please answer this question for me? If you know the answer, I sure would appreciate it if you take the time to answer. I have a z5300 Logitech 5.1 system for my computer (5 small speakers and a subwoofer). The subwoofer connects to the sound card in my pc and all the speakers connect to subwoofer. My subwoofer is not working properly, I think one day I had the music too loud.

Can this subwoofer replace my z5300 subwoofer? Will this one have the ports where other speakers can be plugged in?

(And yeah, I never heard of Velodyne too before now. But must be a good system if everyone is praising. BTW, if it is such an expensive brand usually, how come FW's know about it?

The short answer is NO. It doesn't have the ports for your other speakers.

BTW, my understanding is FW is not about cheap but value, excellent value from hot deals.

$30.97 shipping + sales tax for me.

If your Z500 has a circuit in it that governs all speakers you may be out of luck using this.Velodyne is one of the best sounding subs I have heard.FW knows about this because of moi.

Very nice sub for both music and movies. No offence intended but you need work done on your house! The baby velo is a nice little music sub but there is no way it's enough sub to "shake" 5400cu-ft. 2000cu-ft okay, but not 5400 unless you have structural problems or really bad acoustics. Hsu Research recommends a minimum of 350w continuous with closer to 1,000w of dynamic power for that size room. The VX-10 is a 100w sub with 150w of dynamic power. Don't get me wrong it's a really good sub for music as long as the room is roughly 2000cu-ft or less. But it's doesn't have the goodies to shake a large room, nor is a low end of 36hz what I'd call room shaking for movies.

Bottom line this is a good little sub for music in a small-medium sized room. Very tight sounding and very musical.

# 100 watts RMS
# 150 watts dynamic power
# Driver: 10" (8.2" piston diameter) coated fiber cone with an inverted dust cap
# Voice Coil: 2"
# Magnet Structure: 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg)
# Crossover: Variable from 50-200 Hz
# Frequency Response: 36-120 Hz, +/- 3dB

In the 10" class, I would seriously consider this as well:
Dayton 10"

For lows below ~30Hz with more volume at all levels, look to 12"+ designs.

tx ! ordered one !! !!!

Can anybody compare these two subs?

bhoup said: Can anybody compare these two subs?My cursory check of AVSForum showed no direct comparisons. They seem quite a bit more interested in the ~$250 plus price range (e.g. the BIC H-100)...beware, like most things audio, it's not long before a $1000 sub is calling your name...

I have a great deal of respect for the OP, and have taken advantage of many of his deals over the years. This is a good subwoofer for the price, and Velodyne is certainly a good name and sometimes speakers sound quite a bit better than their spec's suggest. I'm sure this sub would improve many surround sound systems.

However, as already mentioned, the low end is definitely not very impressive. At least on paper.

Frequency Response: 36-120 Hz, +/- 3dB

same here - and it's a great price for Velodyne - but it's a crappy one

You should post this in a computer forum. The answer is no; the Z5300 is a system with the amplification for the speakers being provided by the sub. Computer speaker systems are entirely different from home theater a/v.

Unfortunately for you, I don't think they sell your subwoofer separately from the system, so if you blew the sub, you'll probably have to buy an entirely new system.

Buying 2 would help.

Jamo is another fine sub - and will not disappoint

btw - if you are in Chicago area - ! - can check out Canton in Abt Electronics - and get a better price in store verses ordering online (Cantons 10" will take you down to 20 and be very clean !) ! good luck!

If you've never heard of Velodyne, you've never heard a good sub before.

I'm not sure about this model but I have a DPS 12 and it's one of the most solid sub I've had. It's even better than my NHT.

Wow. I could have swore I remember Jokersmoker saying he was retiring a few years ago. Glad to see he is still around. I have been in for 1 on many of his past deal postings.
