Deal is legit in San Diego. Group of 4 of us all needed laptops so picked up one each. Thanks.

Mission Valley Store still had some when we left. I think they had a big shipment. Good luck.

I got one for my wife. I created a separate partition and installed Windows 7. Seems to be running great, but I will upgrade the RAM as soon as I get a chance.

None in Atlanta region.

I walked into the store late in the day because I really didn't want one, but was very surprised that they still had about 15 left. Went ahead and bought one at that price. Guess I can put parental controls on it and let the kids watch dvd's and play on disney.com.

This item is not just a kids toy, it is perfectly ok for most users.
At one time it was top of the line for features.

It amazes me how many think that price dictates the quality or type of useage an item will or should get.

Interestingly, I got an email from Staples (their Rewards program has an email address for me) that said, basically, "Sorry, but the laptop and widescreen LCD monitor advertised will not be available in your area." I'm in the Seattle, WA area.

Wonder what happened?

EDIT: looking back, looks like others got this too. Smooth move, Staples!

I'll keep half an eye out in July to see if anything turns up. If nothing else it's not a bad machine to play with... unless I end up getting the Inspiron 15n and getting the dual-core upgrade, of course.

RE:

It is not a secret that many retailers have diff ads for diff areas.

What happened WAS
They sent the mention to those whose ad would not have the item at that price.
Clearly an error.

They sent out a sorry email later too.

Sorry. You misunderstood my comment. I think it's a very nice laptop and couldn't pass it up - especially at this price. I wanted one but was really hoping they would have been gone, so I would have had an excuse not to buy it.
I have a decent laptop and so does my wife. We also have a desktop, so I guess I can let the kids use it as long as they are protected from nasty people online. They are old enough to use it on their own as long as the right controls are in place.

Would you rather have gone to the store and find out it wasnt available???

cnIsfg said:the biggest deal killer for me would be the fact that these since these Acers have Vista Basic preinstalled they do NOT qualify for the Windows 7 Upgrade program starting on Friday. There will be MANY BTS laptop deals i nthe next 6 weeks. I would wait for a laptop deal that has at least Vista Home Premium preinstalled so at least you qualify for the Windows 7 Upgrade program.
Time will tell if you are correct. I jumped on this and grabbed a 7 upgrade preorder. The PC runs great on 7 and $350 is still a good deal. (better for me since I used Discover Cash Back Staples gift cards to knock off another $60)

I expect computer prices to stabilize or even increase now that the free upgrade is available. You'll still see deals on ineligible hardware, but someone has to pay for the free upgrades -- sending media out and customer support. Pay attention, too, to the relationship between the US dollar and asian currencies.

Can anyone confirm that this lappy does not have a webcam?

Thanks

How did you get it before October 22 ?

zgenerate, it does NOT have a webcam. yesidonoitall, grabbed as in placed the order (I actually ordered four copies). I'm running the release candidate right now.

For an extra $50, is this laptop better?

Link

This laptop is on sale starting 07/12 for $350 + tax after a $30 MIR.

Well, it will get a free Windows 7 in October, that is worth $50
But surely worth the extra anyway.
If your store has one now, I would buy and get diff back on Sunday.

Staples says this about it
& integrated microphone

HP does not and why a mic and no cam.
