Might be a problem finding this laptop for some people since here is a email I recieved just now: "We apologize. The email we sent yesterday featured an AcerŪ notebook and AcerŪ wide screen monitor that may not be available in your area. However, we do have other great deals available at your local Staples. Click here to view your weekly ad". Looks like a ymmv deal now.

Looks like a ymmv deal now. Now? As I posted very early in this thread thie Acer laptop deal was always a regional deal and some would not have it their Staples ad the first week so that is hardly news. If you don't have it in your local Staples ad this week it will be offered in your regional Staples ad sometime in July. The other Staples ad I have personally seen advertising this same Acer in another region is also Staples first BTS ad. It has 1 cent pencils and 1 cent AR copy paper in addition to the Acer laptop on the front. The regional distribution for that ad is 7/19-7/25. |

This deal, does not apply to CA. I just got an email, saying they were really sorry for the mistake. Too bad. |

"7/5 $299 FULL SIZE ACER LAPTOP 10 per store B&M ONLY" Sorry!! I'm new here!! I have been reading all 5 pages and still don't understand what's the deal here for $299 + Tax 9.75% CA ($27.66) + CA E-Waste ($16) = $342.66 for an Acer Basic laptop? What am I missing here? |

The fact that you live in California, for me it s $299 OTD.
But it is all relative, no matter what model you buy at any price you have the BIG Terminators (Arnolds) add ons. |

A Fatwalleter? Maybe $765 isn't exactly bottom end pricing, but I think the 8710w counts as top line. yesidonoitall said:microwiz said:uwaybie said:How does the AMD Athlon 64 TF-20 1.6 GHz Processor stack up against the intel chips? Seems like a very basic unit.Crazy, I can't even find benchmarks for this particular processor, and I certainly didn't get any search results for it in the PassMark list. I'd guess that this is a pretty scary-slow processor given that the machine is so basic - but still probably adequate for light use, e.g. wordprocessing, websurfing, email.
Too many rely on the "numbers" For most the processor is just fine.
And what kind of a dumbbell looks for the bottom end pricing for something they want/need as top line. |

IMO Staples is hurting themselves, first they let the country know of the $299 Laptop... Then they say, but not for the WHOLE country. If they only have 10 per store, those would sell just by having a sign when you enter the store of the offer. It's like the car dealers (one only at this price) That only one would sell with no advertising of it. |

I think that is exactly the point, though. For me, this is no better than my 2004 emachine M5405, which I have about $600 into, all told. And I upgraded to an Athlon 64 3400+ at 2GHz, which has more power. Okay, new parts, including battery, DVD burner instead of CD burner, bigger HDD. To me, it's kind of a toss up between this big basic laptop and a smaller decent netbook, neither of which has enough power to make much sense to me. They have their place, but not a deal. smartzoozoo said:I have a 4 year old AMD processor of the same family. It runs Windows 7( Microsoft's latest Operating system) and Ubuntu 9.10 perfectly fine and fast. Processing power is no issue, the only issue I have is lesser RAM (512MB). I assume this system will have no issues from AMD processor standpoint. |

Thanks, Staples... that'll entice me into your store. |
