I personally own this drive and use it regularly with my ASUS 1000HE netbook. It works fantastic, and I've used it to burn Lightscribe images as well. You do need to use the included AC adapter when burning Lightscribe images. This ships with an OEM copy of Nero as an added bonus! The drive looks great and works great. Very small and lightweight.

NOTE: This particular drive is BURGUNDY in color! If that's an issue, then don't buy the drive!

Thanks, Wineaux, just ordered one for a ASUS 1000HE. I hope the IT guy that reported trouble with his two 1000HE's had a different problem.

I own this drive and a 1000HE and have experienced ZERO issues. Keep in mind that while viewing works fine on USB only power, but burning and especially lightscribe label burning are going to require the use of the included power brick. But this is going to be true of any USB powered DVD burner that I know of.

This is the lowest price on the net for this model drive. It's also one of the few that comes with Nero and also has lightscribe.

Thanks OP! I like how this drive comes with an AC adapter. I just don't trust those Y cables that try to connect the usb power in parallel.

Is $50ish the lowest I will see these external dvd burners get? If it is, I'll jump on this deal. If not, I'll wait since I don't need one right now.

The Y cable is awesome for DVD playback or for software installations.

I haven't seen this drive this low before. TigerDirect will tell you that this price is below their cost, and will not PM it at this price point. Will it ever get lower? Who knows. Right now the price is really great, and if you need one now then you shouldn't be sitting on the fence.
