The RIM BlackBerry 8830 Smartphone is the stylish way to get things done. It's the first CDMA BlackBerry smartphone capable of roaming globally on GSM/GPRS networks. So you can travel the world with full mobile voice and data coverage, without having to change smartphones, phone numbers or email addresses. The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition gives you phone, email, organizer, web browsing and instant messaging. And then it goes a step further, providing GPS, BlackBerry Maps, a media player for your video clips and music and expandable memory to ensure you've got the room you need for your media files.

WTF? It says "WORLD" Edition. Last time I check, North America was part of the World.
NA is part of the World but tmobile is GSM (not CDMA).
Ahhh, Well, thanks for confirming that it is part of the World tho.
yes, NA is part of the world, but tmobile GSM band is 850/1800 while the rest of the world GSM is 900/1900. This phone works on CDMA and GSM, but the GSM band is only 900/1900. Therefore, this phone doesn't work on Tmobile in US.
(most GSM Blackberry's are quad-band, and therefore, true World Phones)

not really. tmobile/at&t/other mexico and canada providers use 850/1900. other parts of the world use 900/1800.
Nope. Won't work on any GSM carrier in the US/Canada.
For anyone willing to do business with eCost you can currently pick up the same phone here for $92.99 less 2% FC + shipping (which for me was quoted at $9.99).
According to this review 8830 review The GSM portion is SIM locked to Vodafone.
How to unlocked then?

To unlock, call Verizon's Global Department. Make sure you call from a phone other than the phone you're trying to unlock. The rep will walk you through it.

I've been using this phone for 2 years. It's pretty good but outdated at this point. I'd suggest waiting for the Tour which drops in the next month or so.

(most GSM Blackberry's are quad-band, and therefore, true World Phones) The 8830 is also a quad band GSM phone, but locked to Verizon CDMA in the US.
