I got my two "retail" Win 7 upgrade packages from Amazon today. That's to upgrade my one Vista computer (which was not eligible for an free/cheap upgrade) and my ancient, but still functional Win2k computer. Am going to compare the HP upgrade DVD I got yesterday with this new on and see what the diffs are. |

When you click request upgrade from the Lenovo link, the page results in an ERROR. is this still a valid deal? |

FWIW - Did a compare of the HP Win7 upgrade disc and the retail Win 7 upgrade disc. The only difference appears to be the fact that the HP disc has English, French, Spanish and Portuguese language files on it. The retail Win 7 upgrade disc only has English. I have upgraded my Acer laptop with the retail disc, it works fine. Have not done the HP upgrade yet, but I assume it will be simlarly smooth. BTW, I didn't do the "in-place" upgrade from Vista. Instead, I did the Custom install and had it move my Vista to "windows.old". Took less than hour, start to finish. I didn't time it to the minute, because I was watching TV while the install progressed. I am guessing about 45 minutes, from the time I put in the DVD and ran the install, until the first full reboot and login. YMMV. |

Just in case anyone is interested, the HP upgrade disc worked just like the retail disc. I did NOT follow the long detailed letter that HP sent, or use their "upgrade advisor" thingie. I purposely wanted a "clean" Win 7 HP install without all the HP bloatware, so I ran the Win 7 upgrade disc from Vista and selected the "Custom" install (against HP's advice). The entire install took about 30 minutes and the system is running fine. YMMV. |

Hopefully it helps someone My wireless connection got really slow after I installed windows 7 0.42 Mbps download at speedtest dot com I checked the driver and the driver provider was MS. If I upgrade my Dell Vista (only 3 weeks old) to a clean install with a retail Win7 DVD, can I activate it later when my upgrade CD arrives? |

Just got off the phone with the bozo's handling HP's Win 7 upgrade. They had my order on Status : "expedited" for the last week. I asked how the heck can you expedite something for a week. Seems they had trouble reading the invoices I uploaded with my order . They were " fuzzy " ! Invoices were a direct download from CDW . They were PDF's . Glad arvato digital services is on the ball. Sheeeshhh It is now fixed, but no shipping status yet. |

Ordered my Win 7 upgrade through Dell on 21 Oct for an outlet refurb Latitude 2100 (took about an hour on the phone to get them to qualify the machine properly), received it yesterday, cost NOTHING (except my time on the phone of course). Two OEM Dell disks (one Vista Business to Win 7 Pro upgrade disk 32 bit, one Dell Upgrade Assistant 32 bit disk). Haven't opened them yet since I'm still trying to get OSX on the Latitude. |

So does anyone know how picky they are with what machine gets the upgrade? I just got an upgrade for a Toshiba laptop I bought, but to be honest I really don't care if that machine gets Windows 7 or not. But I do have another machine that I'd rather upgrade. Is the version of Windows and/or the product key actually prevent you from using the disc on something other than the machine it was intended for? Just wondering of course... |

I don't think it matters what machine you use it on - but if you change machines from the one it activates on, it won't work unless you beg & plead with Microsoft. I got my Dell upgrade and it did a clean install with it - works like a champ... |

Do you have to use the key to install or is it like the Dell xp cd that checks the bios and automatically install/activates on Dell comps??? |
