Scottw2 said:Another thing to consider if you are one of the posters that don't have a 1080p source. A TV of this quality level will last at least five years. I guarantee you that you will have a bluray player or 1080p TV within this time frame. I saw an add today from Direct-TV advertising their available 1080p signal via current equipment. Personally, I don't want to regret my purchase after a year. I'm just saying... That's basically my situation. I currently have a 2 year old 42" Panny Plasma 720p. So if I'm going to upgrade, I'm going to go 1080p so that I can take advantage of future technology. But for a first timer, this is a great set - top notch quality - and to put it in perspective, I paid about $1200 for my 42" two years ago. You won't be unhappy with this purchase, unlike the schmos I see at Target or WalMart walking out with Magnavox or Westinghouse. |

forthill said:I saw this at the store today, side by side with the equivalent Samsung PN50B450, also for the same price of $899. Both sets, as well as all their sets, were on a closed loop digital signal which shows no degradation at all. The salesperson changed the input to analog, then digital, then closed loop. The picture quality obviously went from poor/crappy to really good to really, really good.
I did not notice anything, one way or the other, that I could see that would make me choose the Pana over the Samsung. The salesperson said Pana is rated number one in plasma sets followed by Samsung at number 2 (don't know if this is true nor where they got that information). I work at Sears in the electronics department so I will be completely honest, not trying to sway or sell you to either side. Let's start with the "top-rated" TVs. If you go by brand name in general for plasmas, Pioneer is rated #1 and panasonic #2 in 2008. In 09, pioneer announced they are not making plasmas and most of the workers went to panasonic, it is pretty safe to assume panasonic is going to be the top rated plasma. If you want to go deeper, C-net rates the TVs by specific model #. On their top 12 best TVs from 50-53", The 50x1 made #11 and the samsung b450 didn't make the list. proof Onto my experience working in the department. The samsung plasma from last year suffered from severe burn-in. The rep that comes in bi-weekly was told by samsung to turn off the sets with burn-in and asked Sears to RTV (return to vendor) all samsung sets that suffered from the burn-in because it was making their TVs look bad to the consumer coming in comparing. Panasonic did not suffer this even though they play THE SAME DEMO. On our returns, we get samsungs back for 2 major reasons. The #1 reason we get them back is because of a buzzing/humming noise the set makes on or off. The #2 reason is sort of a tie. Its either burn-in (which we can't take back unless we forget to test the TV) and cooling fan #1,2,3,4 going out. The panasonic really has far less problems/returns on us. As far as TVs in general, we definitely get more LCDs coming back than plasmas. This can be due to 2 reasons. First, we sell more LCDs so more likely they come back. Second, there are more problems that can occur with an LCD than a plasma internally. We see backlights flickering, pixels dying (screen has green dots) and cracked screens in general (probably toys getting thrown at it). That's just my 2 cents, take it or leave it. |

buydig is offering it for $829 shipped. May work better for some depending on tax and shipping with Sears. (If you can't do local pickup). |

Can't seem to get the 8% Bing CashBack. I was re-directed to the Sears page after putting my e-mail in Bing, but the Bing CashBack doesn't show up anywhere.... |

Look, if you want to use this as a TV you're gonna end up with a watermelon smile and get a great deal with this Panny TV. It's a PLASMA for goodness sake. I would buy this as a TV in a New York second. It is fantastic!!
OK, how about for movies?
The answer is: "it depends".
If you're gonna feed this with your Blu-Ray player, or even an old HD DVD player, at 1080p or at 1080p/24, you might want to think twice. This set is a 60Hz set, perfect for TV, but not ideal for 1080p/24.
But if your focus is mainly TV, and if you only watch SD movies occasionally, this is a winner!! You can disable the 24 fps output on my BR player (Panasonic BD-35). |

My 2 year old 720p panny rocks the hell out of bluray from my ps3. Wish it was this cheap back then. If this thing had a PC input I'd be all over it. Great deal! |

| Hmmm a blurry 4ms 1080p LCD or a crystal clear 1µs 720p Plasma. .... milli means 0.001 (Symbol = m) micro means 0.000 001 (Symbol = µ) Plasma for me .. btw the manufacturers make alot more on selling you an LCD set. 120Hz Image Processing is a tech to make LCD panels appear faster than they really are. With a Plasma film-mode is all you need. √ "24p Playback(2:3) Yes" -Panasonic.Com √ "600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution**." -Panasonic.Com And i'm not sure but with that speed of refresh if this thing can display 1080i, without deinterlacing like an LCD, damn .. twice the vertical resolution. |

LCD and Plasma are two different technology. Plasma TV are not susceptible to the same ghosting and artifacting as LCD TV's. Only drawback for most Plasmas are power consumption. |

My older model doesn't have the low reflective screen (or whatever they call it) that the new ones have so I don't know how this one is but mine does tend to be a bit reflective to bright light but it's very manageable. |

But if your focus is mainly TV, and if you only watch SD movies occasionally, this is a winner!! This set natively supports film content 24p. 600Hz Sub-field Drive; 600/24=25 no remainder ALL HDTVs support maximum input of 60p/60i it is an industry standard. You fail. |

Sears.com has 2% - 8% CB via live. Anyone confirm that CB is valid for this (in addition to the Sears 10% off)? |

Sears is suck. I'm looking for a Samsung 32", Sears has LN32B360 at $549 - 10% = $499+tax, while Bestbuy sells it at $499+tax . So coupon is just a game Sears playing.. |

Agree, ordered this, no Bing CashBack anywhere. Never had this happen before. I ordered too and my CashBack didn't show up. The bing website says that it takes 1-2 days for it to show up. I linked to the 8% CashBack by typing "craftsman" in Bing's search box. Hope it shows up by tomorrow. |

Hope it shows up by tomorrow. Tried to recreate this--when you link to the Sears site, there is an indication regarding "Tools" at the top. Looks like no TV discount. Also searched for Panasonic on Bing, this model doesn't show up for Sears. Looks like not a killer deal. |
