You can give a try to make this deal sweet ... But it is YMMV.
There is 20$ off code for processor ... "EMCLTPL82" if you will chat with the customer service person will adjust your order accordingly.. so the combo will be around 159.99 AR + Free shipping. I did talk to them in chat and got the deal for 159.99 shipped.

Hot! This is a pretty fast processor for gaming.

The coupon code doesnt work.

you have to chat with a rep to get it to work...i'm guessing it works (ymmv), you just have to push it through.

So, you order first (to get CashBack) then chat with a rep requesting to add the promo code to your order?

/edit/ The $20 coupon is what pushed me over on getting the Biostar TA790GXB combo (I've been going back and forth on it for about 2 days). I ordered first and ask for the promo code to be added later, and the chat rep indicated since the order was already "approved" they were unable to change it. They asked me to chat again with them once the order ships- and he added a note to my account indicating the $20 should be refunded. I almost asked if I should cancel the order so I could place it with him, but wanted to make sure I could also get the 2.5% bing CB...

/edit 2/ The chat rep sent me an email after the chat was done saying thank you for the contact. My combo finally went "shipped" so I responded to his email asking for the $20 credit, he replied that it should be processed in 3-5 business days. Wow... what a great deal! Thanks again OP for pointing out the additional $20 savings on the processor!

(kicking dirt).... darnit.... I just placed an order for a different setup from Newegg that is $10 more and not nearly as good as this one!! So order placed. I confirmed in the chat they would honor the discount and they will apply it when it ships out. Took maybe 10 add'l mins for $20 (that's like $120/hr!)... now to figure out how to actually get paid like that. Green for OP!!!

This ECS has the SB750 southbridge. The first 780G board that does that so you can do RAID 5 if you want. The four 90 degree clip heads SATA cables are a big plus too.

Chatted with a rep and got my $20 back. Nice. Thanks OP.

Is motherboard better than the biostar board, that is going for $210 - $20 rebate with the same CPU. The Biostar TA790GXB?

alert mods

Is the MB in this deal better than the Biostar TA790GXB, which as a combo with the same CPU is going for $210 - $20 MIR currently? I know the ECS board has HDMI and an eSATA port. Other than that, does anyone know about the performance? The Biostar is normally priced $35 higher.

~~Sorry about the double post. I just created an account, and didn't think it that my other post had gotten through.~~~

I guess the Biostar has the 790GX north bridge, vs the 780g north bridge on the ECS. I guess that is better. Performance wise I would say the Biostar is most likly better, especially if using the onboard video, but feature-wise the ECS is better.

alert mods

The other drawback with the Biostar combo is the ~$8 shipping charge. With OP's combo shipping is free.

For some reason I have a bad opinion of ECS boards (although this looks much nicer than previous ECS boards) so I went with the Biostar. Not knocking the board... it's just my preference I guess. Is it worth the extra $15? IDK.

Another nice thing is if you use bing.com CashBack it looks like you get the CashBack percent based on the pre-combo discount... not the order total...

Well I online chatted to a rep and was denied the EMCLTPL82 promo code. If you are lucky enough to get that its a great deal. But I'll pass without it. By the way Jose was the one who denied me.

I like this ECS board. It has a good layout but I am not sure of their claim to handle high wattage processors. At best, it has a 4+1 power phase circuit. Try look for some net reviews on it for your own confirmation. If you use an external video card, then this thing is automatic. Even w/o, the onboard video is good enough but not for games. I don't want to bad mouth Biostar since some of you have already committed to it.

Another hidden gem on this ECS is if they implement the ACC in their BIOS, you should be able to unlock cores if you buy a X2/X3 later. Getting a quad right now is really a "must". It makes many things run smooth-er.

Just the 4 fancy SATA cables is enough to win me over. I want them (but can't handle another mobo right now). Also, it has those high end features like push buttons for PWR and RESET, all solid caps and four fan headers. I hope it uses a 6 layer PCB too.

can anyone suggest decent memory (4GB preferably) and power supply to go with this deal?

Here. OCZ Reaper on sale for $35 AR. LINK I have a feeling you can OC it to 1066. If these are too tall for your HSF, rotate your HSF 180 degrees and flip the fan to pull air thru the heatsink (instead of pushing). It will give you all the headroom you need.

Get a good 500W power supply. There are several listed here and I will let you do the homework.

The rep gives you what they call "a once in a lifetime exemption" but only if you make a stink BEFORE you buy it...

i just chatted with Lan. He said if I placed the order and then emailed him the order # he would refund the $20 to my card in 3-5 days. Should I take his word for it?

My rep said the same thing- his name was Kent. He replied to my email saying he would credit my account the $20 difference. I think you just have to get lucky on which rep you speak with...
