Not that I know of. However, you can use Visa/MC at Costco.com and purchase a cash card (free S/H) and use at the warehouse.

"Valid for new memberships and upgrades to existing memberships. After you receive your Certificate in the mail, fill out this certificate and bring to your local Costco membership counter to activate. (exp 7/31/09)"

Does anyone know that when the certificate will expire? 6 month, a year or there is no expiration on it.

Thanks.

Misleading thread title. You DO NOT receive $35, you receive coupons for a few free items that would normally cost $35 if bought at full price. Big difference there...

American Express, Debit or Cash is king in Costco.

Actually not even $35 free items. About $15 free items (3). Rest are simply $ off coupons, those items are not free.

Not all costco has gas stations.
Also I saw thread earlier that non-members were able to take the advantage of the same. Not sure about the current status though as none of my nearby costco has gas station.

No Credit Cards, No EBT at Costco. Cash, Debit only.

Costco in Danvers, Mass, has Self-Serve Checkouts.

Anyone can purchase Liquor or RX at Costco's in Mass; no membership required. RX prices excellent. Liquor, beer, and wine less so.

Tire prices usually excellent.

Also, Costco accepts no Newspaper or Internet Coupons.

American Express or Debit, but buy a gift card online with Visa or MasterCard then use in-store as you please

(1) In store, it's only AMEX/DEBIT. You can get a free Costco AMEX with your membership (no annual fee, 1% on all purchases, 3% on gas, rewards paid as costco-gc).

(2) You will save money if you get a $50 yearly Costco membership and just buy the most sundry items: paper towels, TP, dish soap, garbage bags, ziplocks, motor oil and the like unless you are super stingy (got any two-square wipers in here?).

(3) Costco is probably the only retail chain that pays it's employees a decent wage plus health insurance, so you can shop there without feeling like you are squeezing the lower-middle class retail worker.

Also, Costco stores that I've been to in the east coast, close at 8:00PM and have no self-check out counters. BJS has them and they usually close at 10:00PM where we live. This helps when you want to make a smaller purchase like a can of milk and cereal and get out. Hope that helps someone.

In any case, Green for you OP.

I lived in Buffalo for 7 years. You have BJs that we don't have in Illinois.

They need to have a lower single member rate for people without addons. It's annoying that they charge the same $50/year amount for basically 2 cards whether you have an add on or not(1 + 1 household member/family )

Costco was very jerky in the past.
You go to join and they want this and that, which I had no union card or work name tag.
Yet some idiot who works at McDees got a handshake and a kiss when they applied because he had a name tag/badge.

I doubt there is any food item there that can't be had for less elsewhere.

We joined year before last, got $700 back in rebates, only large purchase was Panny plasma tv. Electronics they extend warranty a year, have favorable return policy.

Got $90 in free cash from Sharebuilder, $50 free cash from Capitalone for opening a savings account.

Also, we vacation in Hawaii, and Costco is the cheapest gas on the islands, not to mention good place to shop for groceries when staying in the timeshare.

I had been Sams member for 15 years before that, didn't renew Sams, like Costco better. Like everything else, pays to compare, works for us.

About 10+ years ago, it seemed to me that the main difference between BJs (formerly Price Club) and Costco was that BJs used to carry stuff more family oriented (bulk food, toys, etc.) and Costco had a focus on things for adults. My personal problem w/ BJs is that they seem to stop carrying anything that I am buying regularly. We had to join Costco a couple of years ago because BJs stopped carrying Oscar Meyer bulk-pack bacon.

After some testing, I think that both buy/sell inferior gasoline (not worth the savings given the decreased vehicle performance).
