Aside from that, if you live in a somewhat dense area, ask a neighbor if you can piggyback and offer to toss in a few $$ or half the cost to get high speed wireless. Just my 2 cents Stealing internet service is unethical; keep prices a bit lower for the rest of us. I do, however, understand piggybacking for backup purposes when your main service goes down, but use common sense and ethics when trying to find deals.
how is that stealing? User clearly said "ask a neighbor if you can piggyback". And then you say "I do, however, understand piggybacking for backup purposes..." - you are funny %) Peace.
Is it also OK to splice cable TV if you ask your neighbor first? Duh. Isn't it? Cable Co's also say it's illegal to add second TV hookup in your OWN house without paying monthly added cost to $$$ cable bill for mediocre channels. Like everybody does that. LOL |

One way is to have multiple computers online. I think he meant that he use 2.7gb in 2 days.... i think... 5kb * 60 (second) * 60 (minute) * 150 (hours) = 2,700,000 kb = 2.7gb. |

Good point. I always forget about free resources like the library and stuff.

I've been using them for the past 3 years. No problems connecting, and only twice have I gotten to the 150 hour point right at the end of the month. I like the fact that it simply doesn't let you on until the beginning of the next month, rather than charging you some arm and a leg price for "going over" your hours. I highly recommend a program called "No Frills Timer" to use with this service. You can set it up to show your hours left each day, a running total for the month, or how many hours you have left for the month. It is totally free, and helps me make better use of my time online. Without this program, I probably couldn't put up with "just" 150 hours per month. With it, it is a snap. http://www.grofsoft.com/nft.php |

see below said: Using a soft modem would be unbearable. What would be so unbearable? A dual/quad pc shouldn't have any problem with it. |

Yes....."not for cool people" with NetBooks but it may be cool again in a few years for the retro crowd Well, maybe it's not "chic"... but I don't see why you couldn't use a USB connected analog modem with a Netbook.
You probable could.
However......It is not a technical issue for most if you love a parent and are reasonable close area wise or able to do it over the INTERNET wise . Main reason for Having a $ 3.33 a month INTERNET is checking prices on the "Computer Box" for The restaurant early bird specials in the area and looking at skinny grandchildren needing a NANA meal and emailing other KOOL NANAS (friends) and PAPAS about how cool you are finding cheap stuff!!!
Also sending checks, but in reality if they don't mail a check personally and talk to the Postman about his limp , they will worry if the INTERNET Post Office lost it ............. Yeah, for sure. Been using external (hard) modems since day one. They are just better at everything. It's bad enough not having broadband. Using a soft modem would be unbearable. And the USB-connected externals are the easiest to use; they work readily with a netbook. |
