how does steam work? these are pretty much old dos-ish games that wouldn't run anymore on any real pc...do they port them to xp? run in a browser window?
Many of these game are newer like BioShock, Civ IV, Pirates! and so on, and they require a decent video card and setup. For the older games like X-COM it has System Requirements: Supported OS: Microsoft® 2000/XP/Vista Processor: 80386 processor or better Memory: 4Mb RAM Sound Cards Supported: AdLib compatible cards, SoundBlaster compatible cards and the Roland LAPC-1.

You can download the games to any PC from the steam client. The steam client runs in the background.
I was able to run all the Xcom games from Windows 7, no problem at all. I didn't even need Xp Compatibility mode.
hmm...interesting. For example, I played Pirates many years ago, and it was definitely a dos version...but maybe they updated the game in the meantime.
in any case, all these games for $50 is a great deal.

I love Steam, no hassle installing games, no CDs, no finding patches, just install the steam client, let it download the games, and you're ready to go. This also makes a great gift for your computer gamer.
