"The D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure, when used with internal SATA drives enables you to share documents, files, and digital media such as music, photos, and video with everyone on the home or office network. Remotely accessing files through the Internet is also possible with the built-in FTP server. Whether you are allowing access locally or over the Internet, keep data safe by only giving rights to specific users or groups. When configuring the DNS-323, you can create users and groups and assign them to folders with either read or write permissions. This is ideal for an office environment with employee-specific sensitive data or for the home where you can ensure your children will only have access to age appropriate material. Good deal but what's up with the locked messages?

Good deal on a quality product. Mine has been running like a charm for more than a year but FYI despite submitting everything properly D-Link never paid my rebate, and their customer service people were terrible about it.

The Dlink 321 is also on sale for $90.85 AR. It's pretty similar to the 323 but doesn't support torrent or USB.

Excellent review (11/15/2006) on Smallnetbuilder (go to site for all things networking IMO) at Link

Comparison with 321 here.

Conclusion of the second review

"Given that print servers thrown into routers and NASes are a crapshoot in terms of whether they'll support your printer (and chances are they won't if it's a multi-function printer), I think the choice is a no-brainer. Unless you really, really, need BitTorrent downloads in your NAS, the 321 is the way to go."

My 323 has been very reliable and supports my Brother 2140 printer fine. I now have the printer hooked to an ASUS router with USB though, so I do not need to leave the 323 on to print.

My DNS 323 has been working like a champ for about a year too. There's a lot of linux apps that can be installed on it too with a little work:

I read the comparison at smallnetbuilder and reviews at other sites, but ended up getting the DNS-323 even though I didn't need the torrent or USB support. DLink just seems a lot slower to come out with firmware fixes for the cheaper (lower profit?) 321. Then there is the 3rd party support with hacks and other stuff for the 323. Plus I have been using a 323 at the office for months with 0 problems, so I paid the extra for a 323 for me. With 2 1.5TB Seagates installed and the latest firmware, 0 problems for me with the 323 over several months now. If you just need mirrored storage for things like backups, music, video, etc either of these Dlink DNS models should be ideal - and much cheaper than a "Windows Home Network" box.
