Those "TV Converter coupons" are actually $40 prepaid Mastercard cards.
Not endorsing...just saying, the can be used for anything at a store where you swipe a card.
Of course they ran out while back...the boyz in the hood stocked up on cigarettes and booze. $80 free (taxpayer funded) was abused 7 ways to Sunday.
The whole thing Digital TV conversion was handled horribly by the industy and gov't. And the "coupon" deal was just another gov't program to be abused.
Target only carries 5 and of those only 2 show up as $40 the Apex and Venturer the GE is $59.99 and the 2 Kworld Digital are $99.99 & $119.99 So it is at least a misleading post

The weekly ad says in its B&M all DCBs they have in stock are $40, limited quantities, does not apply on-line, etc.
"Once the gov't find out"...guess what, they won't.
It's a misdemeanor at most, and they won't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to chse after you.
Plus, they won't know unless Mastercard reports it, which they won't, because they want to get paid.
And of course, there is no proof you personally used it, as you could just say you threw them out and someone else must have used them (or that you never got them.)
Some may see this as a "tax refund"...you are paying for it, so you should get the benefit.
