I especially like how they still require the receiver to be connected to the phone line in order to order a PPV. Myth 1: You need to have a phone line connected to your box to order Pay-Per-View. You can order Pay-Per-View through www.dishnetwork.com/ppv or our automated phone line at any time. There is no ordering fee when ordering Pay-Per-View through the web.

My receiver has never been connected to my phone line except during initial installation.
As if I didn't know .., I was merely pointing out that all the receivers I have are already been connected to the Net for years.., however to order PPV I have to go on their website instead of it just authenticating my receiver over the same Net.
I especially like how they still require the receiver to be connected to the phone line in order to order a PPV. We have Dish Network and if the "box" is not connected to a telephone line the cost is $5 more per month.

Just tell them it is.
My installer asked if I was going to have my receiver hooked up to a phone line, and I told him it would be connected via network--no charges on my end.

That is BS.. If the receiver doesn't dialback into the dish network server, you'll see a notice on the DVR when you start it that you need to plug in the phone line to avoid the charge.

I've had Dish for 10 years and only connect the phone line when i order a movie, the rest of the time it is disconnected, never been charged anything on my 4700.
last time this kind of promo was active, I signed up and ordered 1 movie. I filled out the online rebate the same night and I was told to wait 30 days for credit. Well, over 30 days went by and I never received any credit. The promo was over and nobody had record of it nor did anyone know about such a promo. After so much sweat and tears, I managed to get $5 credit. So, beware......

Next time, save screen shots to eMail them later when they play dumb.
The old receivers can order PPV, no phone connected with the remote.

As of February they no longer charge $5 for the first box.

Chazwel said: Can you connect a external hard drive to the DVR? Yup. But there's an one time set-up fee of $39.99

Dish does charge you $5.00 if the receiver isn't connected to a phone line. This is how the receivers gets updates and send in information to Dish, it has nothing to do with ordering anything. The receiver would only need to dial Dish at the least once a month, otherwise, be happy paying $5.00 if that connection isn't logged at the Dish server. That is a fact.
