Good price for sure. Definitely makes me jealous when I bought mine at WalMart for a higher price. Thanks OP.

correction, the coupon is 15% off, so the price is $169.99. btw, if you have a Discover card, you can go through the ShopDiscover site and get 5% CashBack, making it even a better deal! BTW, does it matter which Xbox to get? Does one need the harddrive? I already have a HTPC attached to my TV, do I still need a harddrive?

If you want downloadable content for the games, or Xbox Live arcade games, you need a hard drive. Also if you want to install the games to the hard drive, you obviously need a hard drive. if all you want to do is play the disc-based games off the discs, you don't need the hard drive. most all games with an online component have some required patches, but they are small enough to fit on the 256MB of flash memory that comes with the arcade. So for example if you want to play Gears of War, Halo 3, or Left 4 Dead (Game of the Year edition), you are fine without the hard drive. But if you want to say download map packs for Halo 3, get a hard drive, or else you'll find the 256MB filled up real fast.

You can buy a 120gb western digital BEVS hdd for like $40ish and get the .bin file to flash it to think its a retail MS 120gb HDD that they rape($150) you for.
Then go on eBay and buy a broken HDD for like $10-20
Then you put your newly flashed HDD in there and I think you need a torx t8 or so to open it.
Even buying the first-party HDD, isn't it still cheaper to buy the Arcade version and slap the HDD on than to buy the Elite edition? Or does the Elite console have, like, better components or something else in addition to the HDD?

All the guts of the 3 SKUs are the same (Actually I think the arcade has extra flash memory, when the other 2 don't). The cheapest way is to get an arcade (ex. $169), then if you find you need a harddrive (if you don't go online and download stuff you don't need one), buy a used hard drive off eBay. A lot of people who download a lot of stuff are selling their 20gbs or 60gbs to upgrade to 120gb.
This is actually a great deal. As long as it's an hdmi 360, this is the best deal because the code applies TO ACCESSORIES TOO. I'd go with the arcade along with the 60GB starter kit. So what if you have to place a second order to use the code again? If you're too lazy to do that, you shouldn't be on FW anyway, I'm thinking... so here's how it breaks down.
Xbox 360 Arcade $169.99 60 GB Starter Kit $ 81.59 (w/ 15% off) Cheap HDMI from monprice $ 3.99 (if you don't have a spare lying around) Total 255.57, but remember to add in your applicable taxes.
With the starter kit, you get everything you would have with the Pro bundle (headset to talk smack, network cable, hdd) AND 3 months of xbox live Gold membership; the only thing you lose is (I think) a component cable, but if you've got a TV with an open HDMI port, I'd suggest going with it. Add in the discover card 5% Cash Back and it seems like a great deal to me.

i saw that the arcade does not come with the HD cables or whatever AV cables that the pro or elite does, does this make a difference. i also read that the arcade does not have an optical out for audio. does none of this matter if you have HDMI?

This is a good deal. Apparently they are shipping the Jasper models from Dell now, which means this picture and some of the specs on Dell's page aren't exactly correct. No external 256MB memory card like listed, but instead 512MB integrated memory. Also, no Arcade disc with the games, but getting a Jasper is completely worth the trade-off.

Sorry very basic question here and appreciate if someone can answer.
If I add HDD to this can this play VOB or ISO files? (similar to PS3, which can play VOBs)
Is Xbox capable of 1080p resolution?
can you play DVD's and does it do Upconversion?

You already asked this and it was (sort of) answered.
Bottom line, the arcade comes with standard (composite) A/V cables vs. the HD (component) cables that come with the pro. If you're using HDMI, it doesn't make any difference.

I've got a Denon receiver that doesn't accept audio over HDMI. Also some people still have older receivers that don't do HD video switching at all and would just run an optical connection to their stereo for audio.

or you can buy a new hard drive case for xbox360 from DealExtreme and pop the drive in that and format it.
FYI the two I got from Dell did not come with the Arcade disc. There wasn't any mention of it on the packaging either, for whatever that's worth... And yes, they are both Jaspers.

Question for you smart xbox users, can you take the hard drive from another xbox 360 and pop it into an acrade 360? My kids have a 360 that has crashed, and microsoft has told me it would be $100 to fix it. I'd rather just buy a new unit at this point if it's just a matter of moving the hard drive to the arcade model.
Thanks in advance for the answer!

Yes, definitely. Since it is a different console - to get on Xbox Live you will probably have to verify the account, but that's about it.

I concur - my kids and their friends swap hard drives frequently between various models of the 360 for the sake of taking their characters, games saves, and other data with them.
I sure do wish I could get another 20GB HD and wireless controller for $39 like this last Xmas at CircuitChity.

Thanks for the answers. I was pretty sure that was the case, but wanted to make sure before I pulled the trigger.

I saw the units at geeks, I passed because of the open box message, and the fact that they did not have the new Jasper motherboards. This Dell deal doesn't guarantee that they have the Jasper in it, but other people report that they have received them.

Hey man, what Radio Shack? Is that their standard price now? Tax in RI is only 7% so this thing is $ 157ish instore? I'm going to have to call shens on this unless you have some evidence of your claim...
And where are you guys getting Dell Gift cards to lower this? There's nothing on eBay w/ "buy it now?".....
mmm no idea. i bit the bullet on the Dell deal though. 186 or so after tax in CA. as long as its a jasper i figure its worthwhile.

I went ahead and bit the bullet too.. went with the two orders deal. One for the 199 arcade at 15% off plus another 3% off for DPA (179 bucks and change).. and then a second order for the 60gb live starter kit at 15% + 3%.. (85 bucks and change). And I should be getting 3% back from Cashbaq too.
I pulled the trigger after I got confirmation from the CSR on the other side of the world that these are Jasper units and have HDMI out. I don't trust him 100% but at least I have that to fall back on if it turns out false. I also scored a used wireless controller on eBay for $22 and and a used 20GB HD for $25 after CB. Now I just need to return my dying one to Costco for the $299 + tax and pocket the $90 difference.

They shipped mine FedEx. There was a way to track the order though, you have to go through the link in the email they send when your order ships. Under shipping information there was a link next to tracking number that says track this order. From there, you click on the actual tracking number and it should take you to FedEx's website.
Hope that helps.
Yeah, I see where the tracking information should be. However, in the "Carrier" and "Tracking" area it says "Data temporarily unavailable"... Looking on the invoice provides a tracking number that begins with "8W09". But Fedex says it's invalid. Oh well. I will just wait it out.
