Amazon just reduced their price from $229 to $219. The best VoIP phone in the market. I've ordered 4 systems for my family. So far this is the best price I've seen right now.
FYI I heard Costco will be doing a coupon deal, $229 including 6-mo premiere, $50 international calling credit, and of course a much better ability to return the system in case things go bad ala Sun Rocket.

Just another option to consider, especially if you're a costco member.
I really wish I knew how long ooma would stay in business. I currently have Vonage, but I would hate to switch to ooma to get free phone service for "life" only to find out they are either bought out (and free service is no longer provided) or they completely go out of business.
It seems they soley rely on hardware sales and the premium upgrade to make money. If too many people buy this system and just use the core capabilities I can see them going out of business fast.
They just got another round of $18 million in funding, so that'll give 'em at least another 6 months. They admit they're still not turning a profit though.
Not a good deal. It was $204 for several weeks, then went up to $219. Then just a couple of days ago they boosted it to $229, so dropping it back to $219 is no deal.

hear, hear! It was hanging at $205 when I bought it (a few months ago) and I waited for it to dip below $200. It was $199.
"Well, of course we make some money by selling you this device and the services that come with it. And if that's where our little relationship ends, we'll be just fine with that. You can ooma-away to your heart's delight. But we figured if we offered some really cool services, you might just want to sign up for them. These services are part of ooma Premier, which will always be completely optional.
Your purchase comes with a free trial of ooma Premier:
* Instant Second Line allows you to make or take two simultaneous calls from a single phone number * Blacklists helps you protect your privacy and block telemarketers * Multiring lets you answer calls from your home phone or cell phone * Message Screening allows you to listen in as the caller is leaving their message * Send to Voicemail allows you to transfer a call to your voicemail * Voicemail Forwarding lets you forward voicemail so that you can listen to it from your favorite email program * Do Not Disturb allows you to roll your calls into voicemail without ringing your phone * Personal Numbers allows you to select additional phone numbers in any calling area in the US * And more! Click here for more info about ooma Premier
If you decide to keep ooma Premier after your free trial, you'll pay just $99.99/year or $12.99 per month. Sign-up for a year of ooma Premier and we'll transfer your number for free (a $39.99 value)!"
So basically their business model depends on a constant influx of new purchasers, porting fees, and subscriptions to their (IMO) superfluous "Premier Service." Anyone who thinks this scheme is a bit sketchy would be wise to get their Ooma at Costco for the few extra bucks.

I got it for $184.99 when it was a Lightning deal in May.

After reading some reviews I am a little confused. With Ooma can regular cordless phones be connected to the system or can you only use the Ooma device to make and receive calls?

Red for not saying what it is in the title. Couldn't you say OOMA VOIP telephone?

All of your existing phones will work with the Ooma system. I've been extremely pleased with my Ooma and especially the Premier service. I LOVE the blacklist feature. Best thing to stop junk calls ever!

side question: Does OOMA have "Skype" like software allow you to answer/call from computer?

Really? Thought it was scheduled to be in the next couple of months. If it is going to take more than that, I will jump on this one now, and return it later.

I have a cordless base station which allows up to four cordless handsets to use the same phone line. The base for my cordless phones is plugged into the OOMA device. My cordless phones work the same as they did with a landline.
OOMA scouts are used if you want to have a set of the OOMA base buttons in a different spot (e.g. home office, upstairs)

So when you buy it, sign up for Ooma Premier and do your part to keep that from happening!

It doesn't look like the WalMart deal comes with the scout. It's picstured, but read the "items included":
Included Items Standard Items Ooma VOIP -Free Home Phone Service with Unlimited US Calling, Caller-ID, Call-Waiting, & Voicemail with No Monthly Fee Blue Box eGift Card
Anyone receive a scout with this deal?

True, but be sure to disconnect the telco's feed to your house by disconnecting the incoming feed at the "demarc box".
The ooma hub (the bigger box) connects to your broadband modem, and a regular phone plugs into the hub. That's the simplest setup and is all some users need. (By the way, for best call quality, always plug the ooma hub directly into your broadband modem, and then plug your router into the ooma.)
If you happen to have a multi-handset cordless phone, you can plug the base into the hub and place the other handsets wherever you like.
If you have phone service provided by another provider, whether landline or VOIP, the hub has a special "wall" port that you connect to a phone jack. Then you'd place the ooma "Scout" device elsewhere in the house and connect its special "wall" port to a phone jack too. Then plug a regular phone into the Scout; that phone is now an ooma phone too. The hub usually comes with one Scout; additional Scouts retail for about $70. Their documentation & website imply you need a Scout for each additional location in the house, but this isn't necessarily true:
If (and ONLY if) your phone jacks are NOT connected to any other telephone service provider (landline or VOIP), you can connect the "phone" port on the ooma hub to a phone jack, and all the phones in the house become ooma phones without using a Scout at all. This possibility is not really described in their documentation or website, but tech support confirmed it before I bought one, and I have it set up and working perfectly. The only downside to this setup is that you can't use the Scout like a little answering machine without doing a little rewiring of phone jacks. ONLY attempt this setup if your phone lines are physically disconnected from the phone company, at the box on the outside of the house.
it's $220 at Costco.. and that includes 6 months of premier service, $50 international call credit, the hub, and scout. Looks like a very hot deal to me, and probably the cheapest I have found. If you don't need the Scout, you can fleabay it, or just keep it in case Ooma goes belly up and you need to return this to Costco.
The only downside is that I hear the new Teleo device is coming soon (around holiday season this year).. so we will be buying a technology that will become obsolete in just few months.

For those who got these... there is a beta invitation going on currently.. if you get lucky, you may get to try out the telo devices coming out this fall, AND keep them once the beta is over! Details Here
