Hobby Lobby (the craft store, not the RC store) has a printable coupon for 40% off any one regularly priced item. I used it on a Lionel train set, these seem to be rarely marked down at any regular outlet. I picked up the Pennsylvania Flyer Freight set (7-11099). No info on that at the lionel.com site, but it is a 6-11099 with extra track and an extra boxcar. Local hobby store was $199 (without extras), hobby lobby was $219.99, but with the coupon it came out to $131.99. I also saw these sets: Northwest Special Freight with TrainSounds (6-30047) $299.99, Great Western Train Set with Lincoln Logs (6-30034) $249.99 and Santa Fe Freight Set (6-11900) $269.99. All prices are before coupon. The Great Western Set is the same one as listed at Toys-B-Them for $149.99 so same price after coupon. They also carry expansion sets, cars and track, but since the coupon is one use per day, it kind-of limits the usefulness. Coupon good through 7/11/09.
Good to know, didn't realize they carried Lionel! If you sign up for their email, I believe they send out coupons like this pretty regularly. I'd say this ranks up there with using Michaels coupons to get 40-50% off Thomas wooden trains!
The 40% when applied to starter Sets i.e. Great Western with Lincoln Logs is a good deal. The final price would be $149.99 which is $10 bucks cheaper than Charles Ro and $40 bucks cheaper than Island Trains,(two of the largest/cheapest warehouse dealers out there). I hope to make a driver down to Ocala, FL on saturday morning (closest Hobby Lobby).
