I would think the Wild Animal Park would be better since it's bigger and it's supposed to be a simulated safari. I've yet to visit.
the zoo has a ridiculous number of animals. you won't be able to see them all in one day. the Wild Animal Park is a) hotter (inland), b) more vast enclosures (think African safari), c) less animals. you can see the park all in under one day.

The Zoo has lots of Animals, if you dont live local and can only spend a day there I recommend you buy a bus ticket and go once around the zoo on the bus as soon as you arrive.

The wild animal park is also good, but its a different experience and has a kinda remote location. There are fewer animals but the train that goes around the park I believe is free, which is nice. There are also lots of free animal shows which are cool.
