Just called Verizon FIOS customer service (888-553-1555) to try to add the previously mentioned 60-day movie package trial (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/925959) but was told that had expired a couple weeks ago.

Was instead offered a 90-day free trial of HBO and Cinemax.

Not as all-encompassing as the full movie package, but not bad for 90 days and free.

Rep said I would have to call in to cancel before the end of the trial or would be charged $21.99/month after that.

Shouldn't be YMMV as he very openly offered it to me, but you most likely need to be an existing FIOS TV customer.

Just went online and ordered it..thanks!

Got the same deal too when I had called to inquire about a billing question and the rep offered it as well. Note that if you have the HD TV, you'll also get the HD versions of HBO and Cinemax.

thanks OP!

you can also do this online.

+1

Free is good. Thanks OP!

I've always wanted FIOS here in South Fl.....but alas, it is not meant to be.

Thank you!!

How and where do you sign up for the package on-line??

Thanks this was a great info!

Just log into your account at verizon.com (register using your phone number if you haven't already). Go to TV under my services. Add/Change Channels.... Find the HBO/Cinemax Package ($21.99 per month after first 3 months free). Complete the order and you are done.

Can you cancel it online as well?

I was offered either HBO/Cinemax or an alternative package of HBO/Showtime (which includes TMC, Starz, Sundance, Encore, and maybe one or two other) free for 90 days. So if you prefer Showtime to Cinemax, ask the rep about it.

thanks OP!. nice find

Thanks alot. I called the service and got it.

Careful, fine print says they'll credit it starting month 4.

First 3 months free of package applied via bill credits; starting month 4 std. package monthly rate applies. Set top box and other charges and terms apply. Offer expires 08/15/09. Must install by 10/15/09. © 2009 Verizon.

Doesn't this mean that Verizon gives you credits for the first 3 months, i.e. free?

Yes, but I assume you have to stay with them the full 90 days to get credit and your bill will go up for the first 90 days. I'm about to move to a non-FIOS area in less than 90 days, and I thought I could sign up for it and just cancel it along with the rest of my service when I leave. No go!

I just got my very first FIOS bill and the HBO/Cinemax package was charged and credited...there is no waiting period for the credit.

If you are getting new FIOS service, don't order hbo/cinemax or the movie packages. The day your FIOS is installed, call Verizon and request the HBO/Cinemax 90 day free package and they will give it to you because you are now an installed FIOS customer. If you order it in advance, you won't get the free 90 days!!!!

anyone want to enlighten me on how to order online? Im logged into my Verizon Cetral account and I dont even see where I could add a service like HBO?

Actually.... I found it... how lame.. there is a Verizon Central with one account name for email and stuff and another My Verizon with another account name for billing and stuff - LAME

good deal op!

For those trying to do this online.. just goto your account and goto tv services I believe and it's add/change programming/channels. You should see the HBO/Cinemax 21.99 choice there, and there's a note that there's a 3 month free promo. That's it. Thanks OP..

In for 90 (days' worth)! Thanks OP.

Slightly OT, but:

The introductory pricing of my current FIOS bundle expired last month. I called and switched to the "Better Triple Play" (voice + HD Extreme + 25/5 internet), which is better pkg than what I had, at a lower price. Without prompting, CSR also alerted me to the free 90 day HBO deal.

Thanks, OP!!

Edit and P.S. -- May have been mentioned above, but also gets you access to HBO On Demand.

just want to warn any families signing up for this deal, block your rating immediately,I was totally shocked what plays on these stations. I had x rated (M A) playing early in the evening. Please block before your family knows about the new stations...

I was also offered this package without even asking, when I was ordering cable cards for my new TiVo (thanks to the TiVo thread ) last Sunday. This is my 5 or 6th free movie package deal.

Instad of the HBO/Cinemax deal, you can also choose from ONE of these Foreign Language Channels deals/packages - Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Portuguese, South Asian (Hindi), South Asian (Punjabi), Spanish or Vietnamese.

Free for 90 days (and be sure to setup your cancellation reminders)

Thanks OP. Green for you.

Thanks OP!

UPDATE on Expiration after just ordering online:

Offer expires 09/19/09. Must install by 11/19/09

Be careful and check your bill! I called Verizon because of a separate billing problem
last month and was offered the 3 month “free” HBO/Cinemax service. Got this month’s bill and
was charged for it. Not only that, but an HD DVR was mysteriously added to my account the
day after HBO/Cinemax was added.
I called and complained about both problems and get them fixed THEN a package shows up in the
mail a couple days later with an empty box inside to return the invisible DVR box that I don’t have.

Are they ever going to get anything right!

Ya.. I totally understand your pain. I've had so many issues with them, that it's ALMOST worth going to someone else. Reason I say almost, is because their actual service (not CS) is good, and cable sucks just as badly. Hopefully I won't have this billing problem as well, but I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised..

I was on a 6 month free DVR program. The 6 month promo expires this weekend. Called FIOS and they gave me the new 3 month Free DVR promotion (Extension to current) PLUS 3 free months of HBO/Cinamax.

How long did it take to start seeing the channels after online subscription?

They also billed me for the supposedly free HBO/Movie package. Will be calling to complain.

EDIT: They can't apply the credits automatically and I have to call them monthly over the 3 months now for the credits. Annoying.

Yup, I just called and ordered it since my 2 months of the free movie package expired yesterday. I had originally ordered Showtime when I got FiOS, but I decided to skip it for now. Strangely, they had to remove everything for a day, and then it gets added on tomorrow. No movies tonight, I guess.

I just cancelled the 60-day free movie package promo. Will I still be able to get in on this 90-day hbo/cinemax promo?

That is a scam and that is how they get you. Most people forget to call in at the end of trial and when they do realized it, VZ able to reap a few months of fees from you. I hate those free trial. I wish they will do something better for renewal people.

It is not a scam, it is a marketing strategy. It is used to introduce products/services to people who might be afraid to try it. They are banking on the possiblilty that people will like the product/service and keep it past the promotional period. It's the same as sampling in the food industry. It allows people to try things that they never thought of trying before, or didn't want to pay to try it. It is your own fault if you forget to cancel the service. You have nobody but yourself to blame. If you don't want to take the risk of 'forgetting', then don't get in on the promo.
