40 watt speakers for $1.99 after $15 mail in rebate expires (10/31) and free shipping. I could not find any other technical specs about these speakers, but for 2 bucks I'll give em a shot.

Where does it say that they are 40 watts? Maybe they are 40 watt peak.. in the event of a power surge or something.
I imagine these are the old PC 40 watt ratings. I remember the wording being PMPO, ah yes, I was right, snakeoil

I cannot find anywhere where it says so, but I feel confident that these hook up with 1/8" TRS connection (Headphone jack). So to answer your question, these could be used with a laptop's headphone or line out but, they need to be powered via wall plug and therefore are not portable.
