Nuvi 255w refurb for $130 free shipping

4.3" screen
TTS
Hotfix
3d mapping
faster processor
Photo Navigation
new interface with speed limit displayed
MSN capable (with optional receiver)

both come with a 1 yr factory warranty and you can update to the 2010 maps free on the website.

to update:
start the gps up and let it get a fix. Use it for a few hours and then try to update the map.

FYI. Garmin is an awesome company that stands behind their products. I had a Nuvi 660 that broke and was out of warranty for two weeks but they still replaced it free of charge.

I actually just picked up the 255w, it arrived today.
It's a refurb but looks brand new, had the plastic on the screen and everything.
Comes with the suction cup mount and car charger.
Charges/CPU connects with a standard mini-usb (same as a blackberry, some palms, etc.) so it's easy to find a cable to hook up to your computer.

I'm pretty happy with it so far, coming off a magellan that got stolen.
The interface is different, and the hardware's a lot faster than I was used to. It's pretty responsive.

Updating the software and maps was quite easy, but took 2-3 hours all told. The USB is rather slow.

And I strongly suggest the 2x5w series over the 2x0w series, they're newer and faster hardware.

What is Garmin/Amazon's return policy on refurbished unit?

I purchased a new Garmin Nuvi 260 from Amazon for $125 plus $3.49 shipping through Car Toys

The return policy on refurbished items is not explicitly stated on the Returns section of Amazon. But since it does not fall under:
1) Items that are Not Returnable,
2)Partial Refunds, or
3)Warehouse Deals

they should be covered under Amazon's General Returns Policy. Also, it's stated throughout the refunds page that if there is a problem due to their fault or error (i.e. DOA, damage, etc.) they'll refund your purchase and pay for return shipping.

I returned a cell phone a month ago and they even refunded the express shipping. That being said, if there's obvious signs that you used it or you return it after 30 days, you'll only get a partial refund. If there's anything wrong with it after you receive it, contact Amazon immediately.

DOH. After typing that long reply, I found their Refurbished Items Return Policy on another product (Tom Tom One).

Amazon said: Amazon.com Product Description About Refurbished Items This is a refurbished item. Refurbished items are products that have been returned to the manufacturer, re-checked for quality and re-packaged for sale under full warranty at substantial savings. All refurbished items are covered by a manufacturer's warranty and Amazon's 30-day return policy.

This one lady was praising Amazon's Return Policy on Refurbs.

"Contacted Amazon and received wonderful "return policy" service. I sent it back pre-paid and my account was credited in a very short time.

Shame on Logitech for selling "refurbished" products that will not work."

Note that these don't have 'routes', which you may think you don't need, since saving routes isn't that big of a deal, but it also gives you the feature of searching for points near "My Current Route", which if you travel, is a feature I couldn't imagine not having, and I've used it often. You have to get at least a 7xx series to get routing. It also gives you via points, where you can add a point into your route.

Amazon's description of this Refurbished unit states:

"Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store."

IIRC, map updates purchased from the Garmin store cost about $70 to $100!

My previous Garmin GPS came with a one-time on-line update within 90 days - again IIRC.

I'd like to make sure I got the latest update with a Refurbished one but can't yet get any assurance from Amazon.

Anybody have experience getting update for a refurb?

Mine that I got refurbed through Amazon definitely needed the update, FWIW.
I had no problem at all updating mine.
You get a free one-time on-line update within 30 or 60 days of first satellite acquisition, can't remember which.
